1. 6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this
product?
It was great to work in a group with people who were at the same standard and skill level as
you in terms of production. There was no one to be controlling and possessive of the overall
task and we all had the chance to learn and progress together as we had a good working
atmosphere. We were able to do this quickly because as soon as one of us learnt something we
could pass it on to the other and we were all very supportive of each other’s ideas. It was
helpful that one of us was quite technically minded as we had a head start when it came to
editing as Aaron had previously made skateboarding videos, this was merely a boost as we all
worked together as a team when editing this particular production.
Throughout the task we got to watch other groups and watch independent films in class, which
helped us to see the way in which technology was depending on. A main part of our production
was music and how we used music technology to put the final touch on our piece. Music helped
to push the video along and add that secret ingredient to the final piece.
We also learnt how important technology is in the preparation to filming as it was very helpful
to have it all set up and running before hand. It is easy to have an idea but that idea can easily
be postponed if technology isn’t working how it should be, this can be from the correct camera
setting to having an empty battery. We used a Canon 550D to film our production in high
definition 1080p which is another way in technology can help to define the little details in
things and how making something aesthetically pleasing is important to the viewer as it can
also be exciting to see a quality image.
3.
We chose to edit our video on iMovie HD as it is quite an advanced piece of
software and it allowed us to edit in our free time whenever we felt like
we had a bit of inspiration. This prevented us from having the feeling that
we had to do it in set times and allowed the editing process to be more
natural to us. There was plenty to learn from iMovie from how to get the
best quality from clips and how to edit it in the most suitable way. There
was many built in sound effects but we used our own as they sounded
quite industry standard and typical. As you can see on one of the pictures
there is 5 sub categories to edit from and each have lots of ways to carry
out their role, for example if you click on the ‘Media’ tab you can choose
from a range of sounds to insert in your piece.
5. This is a picture of Imogen setting
up a tripod. We all learnt to do this
as a group as using a tripod was
necessary for getting those still
shots so was a simple skill we all
needed to learn. Setting up the
tripod is a basic filming skill, which
usually takes place in the
preparation part prior to filming as
you want to have it all setup to the
filmers comfort.
This is a picture of Eion attaching the
camera to the tripod before going on to
use the camera. Attaching the camera
to the tripod is a simple technique but
the camera can be used in many ways.
We all learnt to attach it to the tripod
and we all had our own ways to use it
without and as a team we shared our
ideas and techniques.
This is a picture of Aaron editing the video.
We all had input when editing and our ideas
flowed together. With the three of us we were
able to come up with fitting sound effects,
perfect fonts and smooth transitions. We all
learnt to put the video together and shared
our skills and techniques.
Even though we all shared out skills most of
the tasks were shared equally and one of us
dominated that particular task, whether it be
editing, filming or directing.
