The document discusses various technologies the student used in constructing a teen movie opening project. They found Prezi useful for presenting pitch ideas in an organized, professional manner. Blogger allowed them to document the project's progress and store ideas. Camera equipment like tripods and flip cams helped capture footage and research. Final Cut Pro enhanced their video editing skills. Creative Commons provided copyright-free music. Timetoast and Motion helped with timelines and animated logos. Blogger and Slideshare apps facilitated mobile blogging and presentations. The student feels more confident using these technologies and presenting ideas differently.
1. Question 6: What have you
learnt about technologies from
the process of constructing this
product?
By Aanisah Khan
2. Prezi
This website helped me present my ideas in an interesting and
professional way. I used it to collate our pitch ideas which we showed
to the class and teachers, as well as to put some rough ideas of
supernatural teen movies together. It is so versatile and easy to use. It
makes your presentation seem much more efficient and detailed, even
when ultimately you just input the text into a template.
I am extremely pleased I found out about Prezi and will definitely be
keeping it in mind for other projects!
3. Blogger
Of course, this was one of the main pieces of technology we used. Every piece of
work I did was promptly posted on the blog. Not only did I sometimes use it for storage
of ideas, I used it to show the growth throughout this project and how the final product
emerged from these ideas. For example, there are multiple versions of vamp from
which we grew from. I thought it was a vital piece of this project to show on the blog
every small thing that helped to form the final teen opening.
Blogger was also so easy to use and get used to, and part of its appeal was the fact
that you could imbed such a large variety of multimedia.
4. Cameras/equipment
This product would not have been doable without the cameras and
equipment. As well as the camera, we used the tripod and flip cam. The
tripod was used to keep our JVC camera steady, and was used for all
the shots from the establishing to the conversation between Carlos and
Michael. The tripod made it easier to shoot these shots, especially the
shot reverse shots and we could just quickly alter the height or position.
The flip cameras helped us to capture things such as research on
target audience (on our blog) and feedback on our pitch from Louisa.
This was a handy piece of equipment as sometimes a big hefty camera
is too much for smaller, simpler tasks.
Overall, I feel much more confident in using these pieces of equipment
and I feel like I have gained valuable camera handling experience from
this project!
5. Final Cut Pro
I used Final Cut Pro a lot during this project! This software definitely
played a big part. I already had knowledge on how to use it from
previous tasks, such as editing our prelim, but this further enhanced my
editing skills. I used it for putting together our target audience research
and most importantly for editing our final Vamp opening!
Final Cut is easy to use once you get the hang of it, which I did quickly.
It produces an extremely professional product for something that is not
too hard to get a grip with – I can imagine other editing software being
much harder! I used features such as the fade in’s for a smoother
transitions as well as the text adder for the title sequence. I also used
the sound levels a lot to drown out the footage sound so we could have
our non-diagetic soundtrack over it.
Overall, this project would have been a lot harder if I didn’t have Final
Cut Pro!
6. Creative Commons/Soundcloud
This website is how I found the soundtrack for
‘Vamp’. Creative commons was so easy to use,
and was so helpful as just one keyword generated
thousands of search results. This made it very
easy to find many potential soundtracks. We
actually found too many and it was difficult
choosing just one! Getting these tracks through
Creative Commons means that they were
copyright free, which tackles the consequence of
getting a song just off YouTube which would have
been illegal.
It also makes sure that when we downloaded the
tracks we didn’t get any nasty viruses.
7. Timetoast
This website allows the user to create timelines to share publicly.
This technology helped us put the title sequences in order in a clear
and professional way, which made it an easy reference multiple times
throughout this project, especially when doing our storyboard and
actually editing the title sequence into our footage.
8. Motion
This piece of technology helped me to create the production and
distribution logos for Vamp. It was extremely helpful as there were
ready made templates that looked extremely professional and it’s how
we made the animated logos for Mystic Productions and Water-drop
Distributions. Without this program it would have been a lot harder to
do this and we would have probably been extremely pushed for time!
9. iPod: The Blogger App
I have downloaded the Blogger app on my
iPod. This had made it so easy to blog on
the go or as filming – I didn’t have to
fumble with a computer. This app was
particularly useful when it came to taking
photos whilst filming and editing and
posting them onto the blog, as we could do
it instantly. It also saved the hassle of
taking pictures separately and uploading
them manually onto the computer.
My whole group had this app and we all
found it extremely handy.
10. Slideshare
This nifty little website is how you are reading this right now. It allows
your PowerPoint presentations to be viewed on the web, which is great.
You don’t need even need internet connection for the most part – you
can just do your presentations on the PowerPoint software then quickly
upload to the website when you get a chance to.
It has helped me present this question in an interesting way different to
how I answered the other questions.
11. Conclusion & Reflection
Overall, each of these technologies has helped me
in a differently. Practical technology, such as the
camera equipment and blogger has helped directly
with the production and planning process.
Technologies such as Prezi and SlideShare have
helped me to present my ideas in a more
interesting ways.
