2. The purpose of research
The idea of research is to find out more about a
specific subjectâŠ
For example, if I was to research a little on Nintendo, I
would find out that itsâ founder is Fusajiro Yamauchi.
4. Primary Research
Primary research is finding original data; in other
words, finding out something that didnât previously
exist.
Advantage: Researcher can focus on both
quantitative/qualitative factors
Disadvantage: some cases can be very expensive and
time consuming.
5. Secondary Research
Secondary Research is where you take somebody elseâs
data and use it for your research, rather than finding it
yourself.
Advantages: takes much less time and resources to
carry out
Disadvantage: sometimes research quality can be bad
6. Qualitative research
Qualitative research is about the quality of the data you
gain from the research. Though there may not be a big
focus group, the data you gain from this research
method is usually much more fulfilling and rich than
quantitative research data. One research method is
called an in-depth interview and they prove very
effective given their results.
7. Quantitative research
Quantitative research is getting a big focus group and
lots of data. Whilst the data may not be as detailed as
qualitative research data, quantitative research takes a
lot less time to conduct. The methods can range from
surveys to telephone calls.
8. Research types I will use in my
project
To make my project the most efficient, I need to put a
lot of time into researching, as research is one of the
most important things. For this reason, and the given
time period to do said research, I am choosing to rely
mostly on secondary and qualitative research, as
primary research can be incredibly time consuming.
9. Resources I will use for my
project
For finding secondary data, the internet is a good place
to start. Local libraries would also be a great resource
to my research.
In order to find out the best advertising technique, I
will need to conduct a survey, inquiring about previous
adverts made by Nintendo to see which ones were
effective and what made them effective to the viewer.
10. Reasons for using these
methods
The reason I will be using a survey or short personal
interviews is because it suits my product best. Iâll be
able to get feedback from people effectively, in terms of
time and detail, therefore making these research types
the most efficient, given the time I have to conduct the
data.
