2. The showdown continues. Samsung Galaxy S3 invaded the market first and the
iPhone 5 second. Nokia’s Lumia may be in between but the BlackBerry 10’s attack
may be far from reality. Part of the grandiose iPhone series, the iPhone 5 has proven
itself to be its crowning glory. It has been a hit, with many smartphone users selling
BlackBerry and other phones. It was even reported that a cumulated amount of
50% online sales were Android and BlackBerry phones since the release of the
iPhone 5 last September 12. Is iPhone 5 the definition of BlackBerry 10? Or is iPhone 5
BlackBerry 10’s analogy? What does iPhone 5 mean for BlackBerry 10?
The Apple released its flagship phone, the iPhone 5 on September 12. It is basically
the best iPhone ever. But, many have already criticized it for the simple fact
remains that it’s just like any other iPhone added with improvements. It has almost
the same specs, the same functions, the same keys, and is barely better than its
predecessor. However, you don’t fix what is broken, right? The iPhone series is not
broken, literally and figuratively, so why repair it? There’s nothing wrong with it.
Certainly, the iPhone 5 is not a bad phone, just a better iPhone. It was even
redesigned but, not many have observed it. Still, iPhone 5 sales have escalated
after its release. It’s a good sign that Apple has anticipated and looked forward.
What about the BlackBerry 10? In the most recent turn of events, RIM is
exasperating with the hype. Since they cannot run further without the release of
their future flagship smartphone, it may soon have to catch up. The biggest fear
RIM can wish for is for Apple to release an iPhone that offers improved mobile
experience. Fortunately, Apple didn’t. They didn’t even touch near RIM’s well-
known features. It may have hurt RIM quite a bit with their other phones but
iPhone5’s earlier release will not hurt BlackBerry 10 at all. The features only RIM is
noted for will be its strong key to successful sales. The sooner BlackBerry 10 is
3. released in the market, the better it is for RIM, which means it is a good time to
trade in BlackBerry for the latest one.
BlackBerry 10 will certainly not create a selling impact like Samsung’s S3 or iPhone 5.
RIM doesn’t need to be successful. After all the efforts RIMhas put into it, BlackBerry
10 will offer improved and better features. It will highlight what BlackBerry phones
are made of. CNBC’s tech reporter even covered the iPhone 5 release with his
BlackBerry because of its far-reaching messaging capabilities. It’s noteworthy that
Apple didn’t revamp its iOS or user interface that enables multitasking. RIM is the
king of smartphone multitasking. It will allow BlackBerry 10 to climb the ladder a little
higher and its “flow” of experience will make it stand out. These are features that
BlackBerry patrons love about their phones; only one of several reasons why users
would go back to BlackBerry. Bottom line is, even if you sell BlackBerry, its features
would still hold its fair share of market sales despite current inconsistencies.
