2. WHEN YOU SCREENED THE ROUGH CUT VERSION OF YOUR
VIDEO TO THE CLASS WHAT AREAS OF THE VIDEO DID YOU
STILL WANT TO COMPLETE/IMPROVE AND WHY?
When we screened the rough cut version of our video we were more or less finished with editing. The only
aspects of the film that we wanted to change was lighting in some of the scenes, especially the scenes
where we were filming in the dark on location. Apart from that, we had edited everything. We also spoke
about turning up the volume in some scenes.
3. WHAT POSITIVE FEEDBACK DID YOU GET FROM THE
AUDIENCE?
The positive feedback received from the audience was that they all very much liked the film and the
different shot types that we used, for example the use of mid-shots and shots with just the actors feet.
They also said how the music fitted in very well with the theme of the short film and the tone was correct
at all times depending on where the highest points of the film was and the lowest points in terms of
storyline.
4. WHAT WERE THE SUGGESTED AREA TO IMPROVE ON FROM
THE AUDIENCE?
The areas which were suggested to us to improve from the audience was that some of the scenes where
Nathan and his brother are talking should be louder as it can become quite difficult to hear what they are
saying due to background noise. Also, they suggested that we lighten the scene where Nathans brother has
a nose bleed as it is black and white and the nose bleed becomes difficult to see. We were also told that
the music should be louder in some places and that it shouldn’t completely stop at the scene where
Nathan is sitting on the bench in the Olympic Park alone. Another part that we were told to change was
that one scene where Nathan is walking towards the camera, it needed to be cut slightly so that it flows
better. We were also told that Nathans mum was slightly out of focus in one scene.
5. DID YOU AGREE WITH ALL OF THE FEEDBACK YOU RECEIVED
AND IF NOT WHY NOT?
We agreed with the majority of the feedback. We agreed that the nose bleed scene should be lighter as it
was difficult to see the bleeding. We also agreed that the music should still be playing when Nathan is
sitting on the bench. However, we disagreed at the fact that the music should be playing throughout. We
think there are some parts in the film where the music shouldn’t be playing as it shows the relationship
between Nathan and his brother when he is handling drugs in front of him. There is also a small
conversation where Nathan tells his brother to pass his bag and we think that the music should have been
stopped there. We chose to keep it quiet but we made the music louder in some other parts where the
tension is building up. Personally, we didn’t think that Nathans mum was out of focus and said that we
would address that issue when editing again.
6. WHAT POINTS WERE YOU ABLE TO ADDRESS AND HOW? (E.G.
RESHOOTING SCENES, ADDING EFFECTS)
We were able to address the issues with lighting. At first we had difficulty trying to change the colour and
make it lighter as it wouldn’t work and when we tried to make it lighter, the affect would make the scene
turn back to the original colour. After much difficulty we figured out how to make the black and white
lighter and the nose bleed scene is now much clearer to see. We also addressed the issue of sound. We
corrected some of the sound and made it louder so it can be heard, and the conversation can be heard
between Nathan and his brother which plays a significant part in the film. We also added music where it
should be added. We had to make sure that the music flowed with the previous track so that took a lot of
time and effort as we had to keep on replaying to make sure it sounded right and use the razor tool to snip
away anything that didn’t sound right.
From our own view, we felt that the title of the film was not shown correctly so we changed it to the
bottom of the screen from the middle. However, when we changed it and uploaded it, we figured out that
it was only the projector that made it look like it couldn’t be seen. Nevertheless, we are happy with the
final outcome.
7. WERE THERE POINTS YOU WERE UNABLE TO ADDRESS? WHY
COULD YOU NOT MAKE THESE CHANGES?
We didn’t think that the out of focus of Nathans mum was noticeable and we were not able to adjust that
in any way so we left that scene how it is.
