Description of the Department, Area or Unit
Department relate to the overall organization
Human Resources department is always the backbone of any organization. The purpose of HR department is to hire the right
person for the right position with right skills and knowledge. Our Human Resources department has its own sub-departments such as;
Organization learning and development, recruitment & selection, compensation, payroll, benefits, travel and HR services. Every single
department is working on their areas and has its own various projects. Every sub department is based on 3-4 people who are
responsible for their tasks.
Major activities of the department
HR services were basically connected with all the departments of the HR department. The purpose of HR services is to help
different departments in their big projects, evaluate performances, make reports, and fulfill employee required request such as;
experience letter, bank account opening letter, employment letter and many more. This HR services department is also responsible for
internship program for example, hiring new interns, new intern packages, training, and rotation within the HR departments, assigning
different projects, completing required documents of HR interns and handing to payroll department.
Organization and Workflow of the department
HR sub department is based on teams. Each team has to reports its regional manager. For Example HR Services department is
based on two people. In summer they hire HR interns to share the workload. There is a head of all regional managers of different
department. His/her task is to maintain the quality, monitor the activities, and evaluate the performance of senior or junior executives.
The work is shared between the head of supervisor, regional managers, and their executive team member. Everyday the task and
duties are different. Every department has its own project and supervisor is responsible for that. All executives are responsible to
report regional manager. At this time the HR department is working on SSHR – Self Service Human Resources and I-Scout. The
purpose of SSHR is that each employee can see their online salary information, vacation pay, online employee information, vacation
form, benefits, compensation, and other issues. It helps HR services to work without any work pressure and less stress. I Scout is the
software app of warid, on this app employee can see their LFA, salary slips, work polices, HR helpdesk where they request for their
required information, health & safety issues, warid admin, and many more.
Supervisor Regional Manager Executive HR HR InterneeDirector
The department is very well organized and maintained. I was very lucky and honored to be part of HR services and staffing. Travel
department is the part of the HR services. Travel department is responsible for all the employee’s travelling issues such as business
visa, flight bookings, seat conformation or re-conformation, travel insurance, verifying the documents, find out the best hotel deals,
and cancellation trip. For example, if the travel department wanted any employee’s passport, experience letter and bank statement for
the visa. HR service is responsible to gather the entire required information on time and hand in to travel department. To better
understand the HR department workflow, please refer to Appendix B
Description of your responsibilities
I learned a lot during my internship journey by taking different tasks on daily purpose. Most of the time, my tasks were
challenging. My first two projects were difficult. One of my projects was to compare the company’s code of conduct with national and
international companies. Introducing a new policy in code of conduct was definitely a tough task, because you need to understand the
workplace, human rights and legal language. My second project was to find out the methods to improve corporate culture. I was also
responsible for new internship headcount and filing their required documentation, new internee’s internship orientation program,
dispatch important documents to different regions, sent confirmation emails to required people, made different employees letters based
on their request such as; employee verification letter, employee experience letters, new bank account opening letter, visa letter, and
internee experience letter. I was also taking care of medial insurance claim reimbursement forms of employees, sorting in a
descending order and forward them to the payroll department after inspection by Akmal Asghar (Senior HR executive). I also had the
experience of working with payroll department and was responsible to maintain the employee’s old age benefits institution headcounts
and read payroll course that was very well explained and in detail.
Basically, I ensured proper handling of each and every task that was assigned to me and always doubled checked everything before
submission. If I ever had and doubts or question, I would first, talk to my manager in person and discuss my confusions. I always had
proper guidance from my manager and team members in case of assigned project. Overall, my experience working at Warid was good.
How did your responsibilities fit into the activities of the overall department?
My activities were related to HR services and staffing and payroll department. I was taking care of all the New Internees
documentation and headcount that helped them to maintain the efficiency, productivity, and confidentiality.
If you were assigned specific projects, describe how you analyzed the project and how you carried it through to completion?
When my manager gave me some project, the first and foremost step was to go through entire project along with my manager.
I asked questions regarding anything that I did not understand. I always took notes right away for my own convenience. I analyzed the
project, and made the rubric for what steps needed to be taken first. The amount of time for each project was totally dependent on the
project’s needs and requirements. Sometimes, my deadline for a project was only a week. I had to make reports, power point slides
and sometimes little broachers for the presentation. I evaluated my work by myself and my team members before submission. I made
sure that I followed all the project instructions and completed professionally (no grammar mistakes, errors, spell check, font, size etc.)
Obliviously, in the beginning, it was not going to be perfect rid away and I did some errors. However, I tried to learn from my
mistakes and did not repeat those mistakes and errors on my other projects.
Do you feel that your work contributed to the productivity of the department?
Yes, I strongly believe that my work contributed to the productivity of the department. I was responsible for their entire
internship program data and documentation. My department already had so much projects and tasks to do and I helped them a lot with
maintain and update the required information. Also, I was responsible for making all the request letters such as; appointment, visa,
employee experience letters, employee verification letters, internee experience letters, and new bank account opening letter. I was also
responsible for payroll department to maintain their medical claims and old age benefit headcounts. As I mentioned earlier I was
assigned many projects and worked on them individually or with a group and my work was a huge contribution to the HR department
and the company’s productivity.
Productivity, quality and level of communication within your department and within your organization
The overall productivity was good. They trained their employees in order to finish their projects on time. They also organized big
conferences for their employees to give awareness and better workplace understanding. The only recommendation regarding
productivity, they really need to balance the work load of their employees. Also there was no such wellness program in the company
that helps employees to improve work balance. That is why; many employees specially came to work on weekends to finish their
project. There should be work balance program in Warid Telecom.
In order to improve the quality of work balance within employees of each department, my suggestion would be to either hire new
employees or to distribute the workload efficiently. I felt sometimes, it was so hard to manage all departments daily requests queries.
For example, one day the HR executive was on a personal leave and everyone needed him. If there was another person assigned to
cover for him, he/she can handle the workload. The quality of the department was good and efficient. Even though there was too much
“office gossip” but their projects were complete on time. HR, workload should be balanced otherwise, it causes work stress and health
problems.
The level of communication within my department and within the organization was well maintained. They use Emails, and
famous “What’s App” groups. Even though, their network was free but my HR department loved to use What’s app application.
According to me, What’s app is not professional; you can not discuss work tasks on such type of apps. They really need to improve
their communication system and introduce online bulletin board.
Yes, I strongly believe that in our academic program, we should more be focused on generation gap, corporate cultures, work ethics,
media awareness, more advance courses for excel, access, and project management, international corporate culture and leadership/
management strategies. This would be helpful for our future students for their successful career and growth.
Personal Awareness
What was your main learning objective for your work team?
My main learning objective was to learn different functions from my Human Resources department. For example,
documentation, filing, uses Microsoft 2010, access, administrative work, orientation package, benefits, OD & learning, health and
safety and recruitment. More important, every person is different from each other and they have different way of thinking. My
focus is to learn different workplace behavior and also wants to understand the real corporate culture.
Has it been met?
Yes, it has been met. I did work in all areas of human resources department. Every department has different tasks, and project.
I learned more from Human Resources Services because this department is the only department that was connected with other HR
departments such as security, travel, compensation and benefits, recruitment and selection, OD & learning and payroll.
What effect has your work team has on your career objectives?
I worked in all the main areas of HR, worked alone and in a team as well. My career objective was to get more and more
experience in all areas of HR especially, payroll, benefit and compensation and HR services. Through this internship, I actually
had an experience to work in oracle software and understand the procedures of payroll, benefit & compensation and HR services.
By this internship, I am able to stick with my HR Generalist position in HR. I like the idea that HR Generalist was connected with
all sub departments of HR and getting experience in all areas of HR. Yes, Warid has been helping me a lot to achieve my career
objectives and goals.
What have you discovered motivated you to excel at your position?
My main purpose about this position was to learn from my work projects, team members and mangers. First of all, my
manager Waleed, he gave me everyday different tasks according to the workload. The best part about this internship was my
Regional Manager Ammara Raza. She was my consular and mentor, if I did some error or mistake during my task she was the one
who called me at her office and talked to me about my mistake. She always evaluated my work and discussed with me at her
office. She actually taught me work ethics and culture in a proper way.
What have you identified as your specific job needs (i.e, do you enjoy working alone or in a team)?
I discovered about myself, that my ability was to work in both situations. When I worked with my team members, I learned
how to deal with different behaviors and attitude of people. When I worked independently, I ensured that my projects should be on
time and with no mistakes or errors. Whenever I received any project, my first step was to go through the entire project rubric with
my regional manager to avoid errors in future. I like working alone and in a team.
Analysis of Supervisory Style
I worked for both team member Ammara Raza (Regional Manager) and Waleed Farooq (HR Executive).I liked working with
both of my managers. They gave me different work tasks on daily basis. First of all, Waleed Farooq finished his MBA from Iqra
University Karachi. This is his second job and he started his job in 2011. He was a vendor of Warid and gave his payroll services
to payroll department of Warid. In 2011, Warid hired him as a Payroll assistant for Payroll department. He got promoted as an HR
executive in HR Service and staffing. He has strong technical and analytical skills because he worked in oracle and Warid internal
employee helpdesks. Furthermore, I noticed that his analytical skills were very strong, because he used to make reports on
different projects, and especially on fiscal year end report of HR and staffing services. He has a great relationship with other
members and sub-departments. My only advice would be that he needs to improve is communication skills. Even though he
listened to everyone, but sometimes he was a bit casual and low volume. It is difficult to understand him. Overall, he was focused,
determined, and committed; these qualities will help him for the successful future.
Aamara raza (Regional Manager) did her masters in telecommunication from Lahore University. She has been working in this
industry for seven years now. Waird is her third job, and she has been in this company for six months. She started her career here
as project management manager but they moved her to Human Resources department to manage HR problems. She has a good
experience in technical or software because she has been working as a project management manager for four years. She has a full
command of using outlook, oracle, and Warid’s IT portal. My only advice is to her to don’t pass personal comments until you
know the person, and try to understand other person’s opinion or views.
Summary, Conclusion, and Recommendations
My experience in Warid Telecommunication was great. I was able to understand the corporate environment culture and work
ethics. I worked as an HR internee in HR department and also had an opportunity to work with their sub-department. The good
thing about my co-op position was that I was able to evaluate my weaknesses and strengths. Through this experience I was able to
know where I am lacking and what areas I need to be improved. In addition, I enjoyed working with my team members and those
who were around me. This has helped me to improve my communication skills and work norms. I was lucky in this case, because
my regional manager was actually mentoring me on Fridays and gave little details about my entire week progress. It was a really
healthy discussion for my career growth and succession. In addition, I was able to do projects on my own which improved my
analytical, planning and presentation skills. Furthermore, I was responsible for all new hired internee’s for different department to
maintain and file their documents, also being a part of their orientation program, which helped me to improve my decision making,
leadership, counseling, and management skills. In the end, after working for two and a half month in Warid Telecommunication I
will see myself working as an HR Generalist or Executive in a flexible, friendly, and comfortable atmosphere. Once again, I
enjoyed a lot working with my team members.

  • 5. Human Resources department is always the backbone of any organization. The purpose of HR department is to hire the right person for the right position with right skills and knowledge. Our Human Resources department has its own sub-departments such as; Organization learning and development, recruitment & selection, compensation, payroll, benefits, travel and HR services. Every single department is working on their areas and has its own various projects. Every sub department is based on 3-4 people who are responsible for their tasks. Major activities of the department HR services were basically connected with all the departments of the HR department. The purpose of HR services is to help different departments in their big projects, evaluate performances, make reports, and fulfill employee required request such as; experience letter, bank account opening letter, employment letter and many more. This HR services department is also responsible for internship program for example, hiring new interns, new intern packages, training, and rotation within the HR departments, assigning different projects, completing required documents of HR interns and handing to payroll department. Organization and Workflow of the department HR sub department is based on teams. Each team has to reports its regional manager. For Example HR Services department is based on two people. In summer they hire HR interns to share the workload. There is a head of all regional managers of different department. His/her task is to maintain the quality, monitor the activities, and evaluate the performance of senior or junior executives. The work is shared between the head of supervisor, regional managers, and their executive team member. Everyday the task and duties are different. Every department has its own project and supervisor is responsible for that. All executives are responsible to report regional manager. At this time the HR department is working on SSHR – Self Service Human Resources and I-Scout. The purpose of SSHR is that each employee can see their online salary information, vacation pay, online employee information, vacation form, benefits, compensation, and other issues. It helps HR services to work without any work pressure and less stress. I Scout is the software app of warid, on this app employee can see their LFA, salary slips, work polices, HR helpdesk where they request for their required information, health & safety issues, warid admin, and many more. • 6. The department is very well organized and maintained. I was very lucky and honored to be part of HR services and staffing. Travel department is the part of the HR services. Travel department is responsible for all the employee’s travelling issues such as business visa, flight bookings, seat conformation or re-conformation, travel insurance, verifying the documents, find out the best hotel deals, and cancellation trip. For example, if the travel department wanted any employee’s passport, experience letter and bank statement for the visa. HR service is responsible to gather the entire required information on time and hand in to travel department. To better understand the HR department workflow, please refer to Appendix B Description of your responsibilities I learned a lot during my internship journey by taking different tasks on daily purpose. Most of the time, my tasks were challenging. My first two projects were difficult. One of my projects was to compare the company’s code of conduct with national and international companies. Introducing a new policy in code of conduct was definitely a tough task, because you need to understand the workplace, human rights and legal language. My second project was to find out the methods to improve corporate culture. I was also responsible for new internship headcount and filing their required documentation, new internee’s internship orientation program, dispatch important documents to different regions, sent confirmation emails to required people, made different employees letters based on their request such as; employee verification letter, employee experience letters, new bank account opening letter, visa letter, and internee experience letter. I was also taking care of medial insurance claim reimbursement forms of employees, sorting in a descending order and forward them to the payroll department after inspection by Akmal Asghar (Senior HR executive). I also had the experience of working with payroll department and was responsible to maintain the employee’s old age benefits institution headcounts and read payroll course that was very well explained and in detail. Basically, I ensured proper handling of each and every task that was assigned to me and always doubled checked everything before submission. If I ever had and doubts or question, I would first, talk to my manager in person and discuss my confusions. I always had proper guidance from my manager and team members in case of assigned project. Overall, my experience working at Warid was good. How did your responsibilities fit into the activities of the overall department? My activities were related to HR services and staffing and payroll department. I was taking care of all the New Internees documentation and headcount that helped them to maintain the efficiency, productivity, and confidentiality.
  • 7. If you were assigned specific projects, describe how you analyzed the project and how you carried it through to completion? When my manager gave me some project, the first and foremost step was to go through entire project along with my manager. I asked questions regarding anything that I did not understand. I always took notes right away for my own convenience. I analyzed the project, and made the rubric for what steps needed to be taken first. The amount of time for each project was totally dependent on the project’s needs and requirements. Sometimes, my deadline for a project was only a week. I had to make reports, power point slides and sometimes little broachers for the presentation. I evaluated my work by myself and my team members before submission. I made sure that I followed all the project instructions and completed professionally (no grammar mistakes, errors, spell check, font, size etc.) Obliviously, in the beginning, it was not going to be perfect rid away and I did some errors. However, I tried to learn from my mistakes and did not repeat those mistakes and errors on my other projects. Do you feel that your work contributed to the productivity of the department? Yes, I strongly believe that my work contributed to the productivity of the department. I was responsible for their entire internship program data and documentation. My department already had so much projects and tasks to do and I helped them a lot with maintain and update the required information. Also, I was responsible for making all the request letters such as; appointment, visa, employee experience letters, employee verification letters, internee experience letters, and new bank account opening letter. I was also responsible for payroll department to maintain their medical claims and old age benefit headcounts. As I mentioned earlier I was assigned many projects and worked on them individually or with a group and my work was a huge contribution to the HR department and the company’s productivity. Productivity, quality and level of communication within your department and within your organization The overall productivity was good. They trained their employees in order to finish their projects on time. They also organized big conferences for their employees to give awareness and better workplace understanding. The only recommendation regarding productivity, they really need to balance the work load of their employees. Also there was no such wellness program in the company that helps employees to improve work balance. That is why; many employees specially came to work on weekends to finish their project. There should be work balance program in Warid Telecom. In order to improve the quality of work balance within employees of each department, my suggestion would be to either hire new employees or to distribute the workload efficiently. I felt sometimes, it was so hard to manage all departments daily requests queries.
  • 8. For example, one day the HR executive was on a personal leave and everyone needed him. If there was another person assigned to cover for him, he/she can handle the workload. The quality of the department was good and efficient. Even though there was too much “office gossip” but their projects were complete on time. HR, workload should be balanced otherwise, it causes work stress and health problems. The level of communication within my department and within the organization was well maintained. They use Emails, and famous “What’s App” groups. Even though, their network was free but my HR department loved to use What’s app application. According to me, What’s app is not professional; you can not discuss work tasks on such type of apps. They really need to improve their communication system and introduce online bulletin board. Yes, I strongly believe that in our academic program, we should more be focused on generation gap, corporate cultures, work ethics, media awareness, more advance courses for excel, access, and project management, international corporate culture and leadership/ management strategies. This would be helpful for our future students for their successful career and growth. Personal Awareness What was your main learning objective for your work team? My main learning objective was to learn different functions from my Human Resources department. For example, documentation, filing, uses Microsoft 2010, access, administrative work, orientation package, benefits, OD & learning, health and safety and recruitment. More important, every person is different from each other and they have different way of thinking. My focus is to learn different workplace behavior and also wants to understand the real corporate culture. Has it been met? Yes, it has been met. I did work in all areas of human resources department. Every department has different tasks, and project. I learned more from Human Resources Services because this department is the only department that was connected with other HR departments such as security, travel, compensation and benefits, recruitment and selection, OD & learning and payroll. What effect has your work team has on your career objectives?
  • 9. I worked in all the main areas of HR, worked alone and in a team as well. My career objective was to get more and more experience in all areas of HR especially, payroll, benefit and compensation and HR services. Through this internship, I actually had an experience to work in oracle software and understand the procedures of payroll, benefit & compensation and HR services. By this internship, I am able to stick with my HR Generalist position in HR. I like the idea that HR Generalist was connected with all sub departments of HR and getting experience in all areas of HR. Yes, Warid has been helping me a lot to achieve my career objectives and goals. What have you discovered motivated you to excel at your position? My main purpose about this position was to learn from my work projects, team members and mangers. First of all, my manager Waleed, he gave me everyday different tasks according to the workload. The best part about this internship was my Regional Manager Ammara Raza. She was my consular and mentor, if I did some error or mistake during my task she was the one who called me at her office and talked to me about my mistake. She always evaluated my work and discussed with me at her office. She actually taught me work ethics and culture in a proper way. What have you identified as your specific job needs (i.e, do you enjoy working alone or in a team)? I discovered about myself, that my ability was to work in both situations. When I worked with my team members, I learned how to deal with different behaviors and attitude of people. When I worked independently, I ensured that my projects should be on time and with no mistakes or errors. Whenever I received any project, my first step was to go through the entire project rubric with my regional manager to avoid errors in future. I like working alone and in a team. Analysis of Supervisory Style I worked for both team member Ammara Raza (Regional Manager) and Waleed Farooq (HR Executive).I liked working with both of my managers. They gave me different work tasks on daily basis. First of all, Waleed Farooq finished his MBA from Iqra University Karachi. This is his second job and he started his job in 2011. He was a vendor of Warid and gave his payroll services to payroll department of Warid. In 2011, Warid hired him as a Payroll assistant for Payroll department. He got promoted as an HR executive in HR Service and staffing. He has strong technical and analytical skills because he worked in oracle and Warid internal employee helpdesks. Furthermore, I noticed that his analytical skills were very strong, because he used to make reports on different projects, and especially on fiscal year end report of HR and staffing services. He has a great relationship with other
  • 10. members and sub-departments. My only advice would be that he needs to improve is communication skills. Even though he listened to everyone, but sometimes he was a bit casual and low volume. It is difficult to understand him. Overall, he was focused, determined, and committed; these qualities will help him for the successful future. Aamara raza (Regional Manager) did her masters in telecommunication from Lahore University. She has been working in this industry for seven years now. Waird is her third job, and she has been in this company for six months. She started her career here as project management manager but they moved her to Human Resources department to manage HR problems. She has a good experience in technical or software because she has been working as a project management manager for four years. She has a full command of using outlook, oracle, and Warid’s IT portal. My only advice is to her to don’t pass personal comments until you know the person, and try to understand other person’s opinion or views. Summary, Conclusion, and Recommendations My experience in Warid Telecommunication was great. I was able to understand the corporate environment culture and work ethics. I worked as an HR internee in HR department and also had an opportunity to work with their sub-department. The good thing about my co-op position was that I was able to evaluate my weaknesses and strengths. Through this experience I was able to know where I am lacking and what areas I need to be improved. In addition, I enjoyed working with my team members and those who were around me. This has helped me to improve my communication skills and work norms. I was lucky in this case, because my regional manager was actually mentoring me on Fridays and gave little details about my entire week progress. It was a really healthy discussion for my career growth and succession. In addition, I was able to do projects on my own which improved my analytical, planning and presentation skills. Furthermore, I was responsible for all new hired internee’s for different department to maintain and file their documents, also being a part of their orientation program, which helped me to improve my decision making, leadership, counseling, and management skills. In the end, after working for two and a half month in Warid Telecommunication I will see myself working as an HR Generalist or Executive in a flexible, friendly, and comfortable atmosphere. Once again, I enjoyed a lot working with my team members.
