Personal Statement
!
I am a senior at San Jose State University (SJSU) majoring in Communications Studies. I heard
about the job opening from the online posting on NCAA jobs. I have been preparing throughout
my undergraduate years working with our men’s program as well as many local clubs coaching
and I know I am ready for this.
!
I have four years experience on staff at a division one men’s soccer program as I have been a
volunteer staff assistant here at San Jose State University’s Men’s Soccer program. Throughout
these years I have gained the experience and skills you cannot gain elsewhere except being a part
of a program. Many of my responsibilities have been: Game day preparation, meal planning for
pre-season and season, compliance paperwork, help organize and run college ID camp , annual
golf tournament , and game day video and editing/uploading to EZXchange. I have also obtained
my level 6 and national level coaching diploma for the National Soccer Coaches Association of
America (NSCAA). These can all directly transfer to your program as my position as graduate
assistant.

Besides my work experience , I feel like I have been given skills through my communications
studies courses that are very valuable as a coach and staff member. Through my interpersonal
communications studies class I learned how to work with all types of personalities and through
my intercultural communications class I learned how to deal with all different types of cultures
and environments. Another asset of mine is that I am fully bilingual in both English and Spanish.
Since kindergarden my parent put me in a full spanish immersion school where I became fully
bi-lingual. It has helped me with the amount of spanish speaking players there are in soccer. A
perfect example would be this summer. Since the Copa America was going on and we had many
games here at Levi’s Stadium we (SJSU) were able to host the likes of Argentina, Chile, and
Jamaica. Being part of the staff for the Men’s soccer team we were the hosts and since I was the
only spanish speaker on the staff I was one of the main contacts and liaisons for these teams.
This allowed me to work face-to-face with the head coaches of these teams as well as players
such as Lionel Messi , the best player in the world. With my determination , willingness to learn,
loyalty, and previous experience I believe I would be a great asset to any team.
