2. Bear Creek Middle School has earned the nickname “Google School” in the county. This is
due to the fact that BCMS piloted the BYOT program more than five years ago and has
sense made every effort to make learning mobile for students. Our school has access to a
variety of different devices and students are encouraged to use their device in the
classroom. For this reason I chose to focus on the platform pertaining to printing from
wireless devices. AS our school has worked out many kinks pertaining to technology,
printing is a major area of concern in the art room. This fall, students in visual art will
have access to a variety of new technology we have not previously had access to. One of
the requirements is for students to create a variety of digital artworks. Therefore, printing
will be a new issue this year. Students will experience a learning curve as this has not
been a requirement previously.
3. Fortunately, the county has provided a variety of technology options for students who do
not have a device. The art classroomfor the first time ever will be equipped with 35
classroomHP laptops for students to use. Teacher also have access to Chromebooks,
Ipads, Ipods and the computer lab. Students can also check out mobile devices for a class
period if they do not have their own device. Each classroomteacher has at least four
Ipads and two chrome books in the room at all times.
4. Grouping pertains in the individual lesson and the purpose for the technology. Students
will work in groups to create tutorials on art methods and techniques. They will also work
in groups when research major artists or artistic movements. Students will work in pair
when they are critiquing artwork or when a student needs peer tutoring or peer
assistance. Students will work individually on their own projects in order to develop their
own personal artistic style.
5. Apps for the Art room:
a. Paper Slides – Great app for creating tutorials and short presentations
b. ArtHD – Research and explore artistic movements and artists
c. Musee de Louvre – Takes students to the Louvre in France and provides extensive
background knowledge
d. Sketchbook Express –This is comparable to a miniature Photoshop and can also
teach the basics of photo editing
e. Drawing Pad - Digital drawing that takes it a step further and adds other artistic
processes and mediums
f. Viz – Create photo collages, incorporate text, special effects, gif graphics and more
Some of the aps are free while some cost around $1.99. However, teachers may
get apps approved for classroom purchase through the media specialist.
