• Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam, Christianity, Judaism, Confucianism and
Taoism.
• Hinduism being the oldest religion on earth, with Christianity being
the second oldest.

3. Hinduism
What is Hinduism
Hinduism has originated in India and is one of the oldest religion in the
world with 900 million followers. The roots and customs date back to
4,000 years. Hinduism is both monotheistic and henotheistic.
Hinduism isn’t actually one religion but many traditions and philosophies.
There is a fusion of other believes.
The main gods and goddess are:
Brahma, Devi, Shiva, Vishnu, Shakti and Ganesha.

4. Three Hinduism Beliefs
• Many Hindus believe in ’Dharma’ which emphasizes good conduct
and morality.
• Many Hindus worship a god know as Brahman but they also worship
other gods as well.
• Hindus respect all animals and consider cows a sacred animal.

5. Origins of Hinduism
• Some people believed Hinduism started
between 2300 B.C. and 1500 B.C. in the Indus
Valley. Many Hindus argued that Hinduism is
timeless and has always existed.
• Around 1500 B.C. the Indo-Aryan people
migrated to the Indus Valley, their language and
culture has blended with the indigenous people
there.
• The concept of Dharma was introduced in new
text, and other religion was branched to other
religions such as Buddhism and Jainism.
• Hinduism doesn’t have one founder but a fusion
of various beliefs.

• There are 7 Hindu gods these are there role’s.
Brahma: The god who created the world and all living things.
Vishnu: The god that preserves and protects the universe.
Shiva: The god who destroys the universe then creates a new one.
Devi: The goddess that fights to restore Dharma.
Krishna: The god of compassion, tenderness and love.
Lakshmi: The goddess of wealth and purity.

7. Buddhism
What is Buddhism.
• Buddhism is a religion branched from Hinduism. Buddhism does not
include the belief of gods deities or any celestial beings. Buddhist
admire and respect the Buddha, not worship.
• Buddhism focus mainly on personal spiritual development and
attainment of deep insight to the true nature of life.
Nirvana
• The final goal in Buddhism is to attain nirvana which means the
Buddhist has been freed from the phenomenal cycle that inherits
suffering . All greed, hatred and ignorance have disappeared.

8. Origin of Buddhism
• Buddhism, a religion that 300 million people practiced. All thanks to
Siddhartha Gautama
How it Became
Siddhartha Gautama was the original name of Buddha and in the past
he used to be a prince in Northeastern India, but he decided to go to
the forest and meditate under a bodhi tree. When people saw Buddha
and his wisdom people decided to follow him on the path of Buddhism.
He achieved enlightenment as he past away. After that many people
started to become Buddhists and try to achieve nirvana.
Fact: In the buddha picture 108 snails have
sacrificed themselves to shield the head of
buddha and protect him from the heat.

9. Beliefs in Buddhism
• Buddhists believe that nothing is fixed and change has to
occur. They also believe that life is both endless and subject
to suffering and uncertainty

In Buddhism, the primary purpose of life is to end suffering,
humans suffer because we strive for things that do not give
lasting happiness. To escape this cycle they have to achieve
peace through nirvana.

10. The Truths in Buddhism
The Three Universal Truths
Nothing is lost in the universe, everything changes and the law of cause
and affect.
The Four Noble Truths
Dukkha: suffering exists. Samudaya: there is a cause of suffering.
Nirodha: There is an end to suffering. Magga: in order to end suffering
you must follow the eightfold path.
The Noble Eightfold Path
Samma ditthi: Right understanding of the four noble truth. Samma
sankkapa: right thinking. Samma Vaca: Right speech. Sama Kammanta:
right actions. Sama ajiva: Right livelihood. Sama vayama: right effort.
Samma sati: Right mindfulness and Samma samadhi.

11. Islam
• The word Islam means ”submission to the will of god”. It is a
monotheistic religion, and the second largest religion with 1.9 billion
followers around in 47 countries.
• The Muslims are people who are Islam. Islam teaches Muslims that
god is merciful, very powerful and unique. They believe god has
guided humanity through prophets, revealed sculptures and natural
signs.
• Many Muslims worship one all knowing god Allah.

12. The main goal
• The main goal of Muslims is to have their lives completely submit to Allah. They
believe nothing can happen without Allah’s permission.
Muhammad or Muhammed
In 570 AD, he was born in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. Muslims believed he was the
prophet sent by god to reveal their faith. Muslims also believed that Muhammad
continued to receive revelations from Allah thanks to an angel named Gabriel. In
about 613 he preached about Allah throughout Mecca.

The Quran is a very important book for Muslims. It contains the sacred word of
god. Muslims believe that Muhammad was the one who wrote the book with
Allah speaking through Gabriel

• Muslims also belief in Abraham, Moses, Noah and Jesus. They must
follow the five basic pillars that are important to their faith.

Shahada: to declare one’s faith in god and belief in Muhammad. Salat: to
pray five times a day. Zakat: to give to those in need. Sawm: to fast during
Ramadan. Hajj: to make a pilgrimage to Mecca at least once a lifetime if
can.

They belief Allah is one and only god, the angels of god, the holy books,
the prophets of god e.g Moses, the day of judgement, in premeasurement
and the resurrection after death.

14. The Origin of Islam
• In the 7th Century CE, Islam has come from Mecca on the Arabian
Peninsula, the Golden Age of Islam that was dated from 8th Century to
the 14th Century, when historical Muslims where exposed to new
technology, cultural and economic flourishing.

15. Confucianism
• Confucianism is a belief system, that focuses on a person’s morality and
ethics. Although some people have debated whether Confucianism is a
religion or a philosophy. Confucianism is mainly based on kindness.

16. The Origin of Confucianism
• Confucianism started in ancient China, in the sixth century The Tang Dynasty. A
male scholar named Kung Fu-Tzu developed the building blocks of Confucianism,
and was named Confucius.
• Now it has been followed for 5-6 million years! Did you know it has influenced
Korea, Japan and Vietnam.

17. The Beliefs and Virtues
• The main goal of Confucianism is to better improve and create a peaceful
society. Through improving the behaviors of followers. It teaches them to be
kind and have a respect their elders and other people.

Yi: Righteousness. Xin: Honesty and trustworthy. Chung: Loyalty. Li: Propriety
and etiquette. Hsiao: Love within the family generation. Jen: Benevolence or
kindness towards another person.

18. The Four Practices
There are four practices in four important times in one’s life.
Birth: The parent of the expectant mother will provide everything on the first,
fourth and twelfth month anniversary of the child’s birth.
Marriage: There are six practices in marriage rituals; Proposal, Engagement,
Dowry, Procession, Marriage and Morning After.
Reaching Maturity: Means the person has reached their peek maturity.
Death: After the death of a loved one, the family would inform the neighbors the
tragic news. The family where clothes made of course material, family and friends
help with the cost of the funeral. Food would be placed in the coffin of his or hers.
A public worship is performed on the seventh, ninth and forty ninth day after the
death, along with the first and third year anniversary death.

19. Taoism(Daoism)
• Taoism is a religion or philosophy in China. Which means it discusses
how a person can live in harmony with nature. In short form it’s about
following the way of Tao, or the universe. Just like the Yin and Yang.
• There are 12 million followers in Taoism, many are located in China.
• Many Taoists leans to follow the way of the Tao.

20. The beliefs In Taoism
• Taoism is that all humans and animals should live in a balance with
the Tao. And Taoist believe the spirit of the body will join with the
universe after death.

Taoism focus on genuieness, longevity, health, immortality, vitality, a
perfect equilibrium with Tao, detachment, refinement, spontaneity,
transformation and omni-potentiality.

bio-diversity.

21. The Origin of Taoism
• Although the religion or philosophy was founded In China, there is no
founder or founding date.
• Some speculated the philosopher Lau Tzu, who was the one that
wrote the main book of Taoism, The Tao Te Ching, in 500 B.C.E

22. Western and Asian Religions
Differences
The main differences of Western and Asian religions, is that western
religions are monotheistic and most Asian or eastern religions are
polytheistic.
There isn’t a belief in judgement day in Eastern Religions. However
there are some in Western religion and worship can be a daily process,
on the other hand western religions have periods of worship.
Western religion believe that god will sent a savior or prophet to save
humanity while some eastern religion believe that god is the one who
will help them.
