•During the research of the documentary we found inspiration from the
Channel 4 show Educating Yorkshire, from this documentary we analysed
both the main and teaser poster to find the common codes and conventions
of a documentary on students. From this we found that the logo was always
used which we incorporated into our poster. Moreover, we looked at radio
trailers which suited are wants and needs for our radio trailer, we started by
looking for sounds that would illustrate the start of a day in the life such as
waking up or getting on the bus. Furthermore looking at the poster created
for the documentary the use of the large number 4 is an indication towards
the target audience to ensure they know it will be shown on chanel 4.
3. HOW EACH ANCILLARY TEXT WILL
APPEAL TO THE TARGET AUDIENCE?
The radio advert gives a clear insight onto what will occur in the film but more
importantly give our target audience the necessary detail they need. The small
preview which can be viewed on YouTube also allows for our target audience to
understand in more in depth knowledge and see whether they like the film or not.
Also, the use of the poster follows the codes and conventions of a student
documentary which can appeal to the target audience as they can see the main
protagonist in the main view of the poster.
4. WHERE WILL THE TEXT APPEAR?
Our text for the documentary will be shown in school magazines and social media
as this is linked to target audience as this is the most effective way to reach them.
Moreover, the use of posters will be posted around library's as this is where
students are located to reach our target audience.
5. WHY ARE THESE FORMATS
APPROPRIATE?
The poster that we have created will be placed into student magazines ensuring
that the documentary will be seen by our wanted target audience. Furthermore,
the use of the radio trailer isn't very useful as we know that most of our target
audience don’t listen to radio, however we have made sure that the radio trailer
will be played on radio shows such as Kiss 100 and Capital which is the most
commonly used radio station used by our target audience. Also the posters can be
put on bus stops and billboard near schools to cover the maximum amount of
coverage and exposure for our target audience.
6. AUDIENCE FEEDBACK
• From our audience feedback we learnt that our audience didn't want us to show
Yahya just in lessons but they also wanted to see Yahya during break and lunch too
and see what he gets up to so they can understand and relate to him. On the other
hand our audience also informed us that they want to hear Yahya's opinions on
school therefore we interviewed him and heard his thoughts and feelings on being a
working class student. Our audience kept mentioning how they admired the fact that
it is about one character rather than a whole class, therefore we made sure not to
focus too much on other students but more on Yahya as he is the main protagonist of
this documentary.
