Back to School: Email Marketing University
1. Back to School: Email
Marketing University
By Wired Marketing
2. Congratulation students – you are on your way to
achieving an email marketing degree
(not really, sorry).
You’re now at the final stage of your education, and
you’re almost ready to graduate. We’d hope by now
you have sent an email marketing campaign to your
desired list.
3. A basic email campaign is a great way to showcase
your brand and products, but you can go a step
further to maximise your return on investment.
At this stage of your education, you will learn some
advanced email marketing techniques, and how
they can help take your campaigns to the next level.
4. Over time your contacts may
become ‘stale’ and may not
engage with your campaign.
These people can hinder your
metrics.
Consider sending a re-
engagement campaign, such
as an offer to get them
interested in your brand
again.

5. Segmentation
When you have sent multiple
campaigns, you will be able to
see which groups of people are
interacting with your
campaigns.
Segment your list and send
content based on behaviour,
for example, split your list into
customers and prospects. This
will boost engagement for
each group.
6. Analytics
Once you’ve got to grips
with the generic stats, such
as open rate, click through
rate etc.; drill down into
more complicated
analytics, such as, location
and geographical reporting
to understand which
contacts have engaged,
and where in the country
they are based.
7. Landing pages
Implementing a landing
page will boost
engagement as the
contact takes your
desired user path.
This means the contact
will land on a dedicated
page, instead of a
generic website page,
which matches your
branding and website.
8. Surveys
Surveys help you understand
your contacts in more detail.
Send surveys to capture
more data, and begin
profiling your contacts.
You’ll soon have a list of
contacts and you’ll know
their name, age, job role,
purchase history, location
and preferences – put this
knowledge into an email
campaign for a dramatic
boost.
9. More Info
You can read about all of these
areas and more on our helpful
blog, The Insider. We cover a
