3. FORWARDING WISCONSIN’S
FUEL CHOICE
• $500,000 two-year program.
• Designed to implement policy, barrier
reduction, training, and educational initiatives
to significantly expand the alternative fuels
market in Wisconsin.

Wisconsin State Energy Office, Wisconsin
Clean Cities, and the Wisconsin State
Technical College System.

Companies and governmental agencies talk a lot about being
“green” or working towards “sustainability.” Whichever buzz word
is applied means that, for most, the ultimate goals are to reduce
their carbon footprint, leave the world a better place for the next
generation, and meet their internal economic goals. To help
fleets meet these goals, the Wisconsin State Energy Office
(SEO) and Wisconsin Clean Cities (WCC) are setting out to
provide fleets with a planning tool and outline the different
options available for their specific situations. The SEO and WCC
are calling it the Wisconsin Smart Fleet program.
The Wisconsin Smart Fleet program is initially inducting fleets
with three or more vehicles, and is funded through a two-year
U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) grant called “Forwarding
Wisconsin’s Fuel Choice.” After the granting period, the program
will continue because the SEO and WCC firmly believe it can
make a difference for fleets. The fleets are already implementing
or will implement the use of alternative and renewable fuels,
advanced vehicles, and other petroleum reduction measures.

5. • Two-year regional $700,000+ DOE grant funded project.
• Designed to identify barriers in the implementation of CNG, propane, and
electricity as vehicle fuels.

8. • The Wisconsin Natural Gas Vehicle Fuel Roundtable is a stakeholder forum
created to provide information to businesses and citizens about natural gas
as a transportation fuel and identify opportunities to expand the use of
compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles.
• The forum is coordinated by the Wisconsin State
Energy Office, Wisconsin Clean Cities, and an advisory
group made up of businesses from across the state.
• The goal of the forum is to expand the use of compressed natural gas,
liquefied natural gas and biogas as vehicle fuels in WI.

9. • The Wisconsin Propane for Transportation Roundtable is a stakeholder
forum created to provide information to businesses and citizens about
Propane Autogas as a transportation fuel and identify opportunities to
expand the use of propane vehicles.
• The forum is coordinated by the Wisconsin State
Energy Office, Wisconsin Clean Cities, and an
advisory group made up of businesses from
across the state.

10. PLUG-IN ELECTRIC VEHICLE
TASK FORCE
• The Task Force is a diverse group of 33 stakeholders that
are excited about PEVs with goals to grow the PEV market,
educate all audiences about PEVs, and provide
comprehensive resources about PEVs to residents in WI.
• To meet these goals, Task Force members work diligently to:
• Create solutions to barriers;
• Participate and promote related events or activities, put together educational and marketing
materials;
• Work closely with municipalities and private companies to promote PEV related policies and
practices;
• Seek funding to implement their solutions; and
• Recruit companies throughout WI to join the U.S. DOE Workplace Charging Program.

13. ECO-DRIVING FOR CLASS 8 OVER-
THE-ROAD TRUCKS (CMAQ GRANT)
• Partnership with WI Department of Natural
Resources and Waukesha County Technical
College.
• Over-the-road class 8 trucks eco-driving training
program that involves learning techniques to
maximize a vehicle's energy efficiency, reduce fleet
fuel consumption and vehicle miles traveled,
therefore increasing productivity, lowering fuel costs
and reducing greenhouse gas emissions in SE WI.

14. U.S. EPA
SMARTWAY PROGRAM
• Launched in 2004 by U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
• Public-Private Initiative between EPA, large and small trucking companies, rail carriers,
logistics companies, commercial manufacturers, retailers, and other federal and state
agencies.
• WCC supports SmartWay's efforts by promoting idle reduction and fuel efficiency methods
and technologies.
• WCC has several members that have benefited from
participation in the SmartWay program:
– Convenience Transportation (Kwik Trip)
– Contract Transport Services
– Paper Transport
– Skinner Transfer Corporation
– Sheehy Mail Contractors
– Time Transport
– Veriha Trucking

15. LAKE MICHIGAN CONSORTIUM
• In addition to collaborating with Clean Cities coalitions around the country and with regional
and national U.S. Department of Energy program leadership, Wisconsin Clean Cities works
especially close with the two other coalitions in the loosely constituted Lake Michigan Clean
Cities Consortium.
• To our South, Chicago Area Clean Cities, and to our Southwest, South Shore Clean Cities,
are WCC's steady partners in educational events and special conferences. If you find

Wisconsin Clean Cities recognizes two decades of successfully reducing dependence on petroleum-
based fuels, promoting the use of alternative fuels and technologies, and improving air quality. Marking
this major milestone, WCC strives to make 2014 a year to remember.
Currently, some of our projects include:
• Concluding our Wisconsin Clean Transportation Program, a multi-million ARRA grant that will result in 18 new
infrastructure sites and over 375 new alternative fuel vehicles in WI;
• Wisconsin Smart Fleets program, a program set out to provide fleets with alternative fuel planning tools and an
outline of different options available for their specific situation;
• Lake Michigan Corridor Alternative Fuel Implementation Initiative webinar series;
• Eco-driving training course for class 8 over-the-road trucks;
• Statewide planning for natural gas as an alternative fuel for transportation;
• EV Task Force electric vehicle infrastructure planning;
