When a new Marriott Hotel was going to go up in University Circle, we saw a great opportunity to manage stormwater and reduce contributions to the combined sewer system. Here's what it looks like. The hotel is scheduled to open this month.

The sandy soil in
this area already
provides great
drainage. The
pervious parking
lot uses this to its
advantage,
eliminating runoff
off the site for
storms up to the
100-year storm
event.

Stormwater chambers
This system captures the rooftop stormwater runoff.
It allows the water to drain naturally into the sandy
soils under it, instead of discharging stormwater
runoff to the combined sewer system.
Outlet to combined sewer system
This connection will allow for the stormwater runoff to be
discharged to the sewer system, but only in very heavy storms
when the runoff exceeds the capacity of the system.
Note: No stormwater runoff is expected from this
site through the 100-year storm event. The
system will reduce runoff by 1,000,000 gallons
per year.
