This is the presentation we gave at Pennsylvania Library Association annual conference 2010 on Oct. 26. It deals with the State Library of Pennsylvania's testing of RDA, and breaks down the differences between RDA and AACR2 on a practical level.

3. RDA
Resource Description and Access
--Why a new standard?
--Application of FRBR/FRAD
--Dublin Core and metadata schema
--Digital resources
--Content standard not a display standard
5. 10. What is FRBR?
Functional Requirements of
Bibliographic Records
6. 9. What is FRAD?
Functional Requirements of
Authority Data
7. 8. Why the focus on relationships?
Six of the ten RDA sections are devoted to recording
relationships. The FRBR and FRAD models are entity
relationship models. Relationships are a key part of the
models.
8. 7. Give examples of the new RDA
vocabulary.
Access Points (RDA)
instead of
Headings (AACR)
Take what you see (RDA)
instead of
Abbreviations (AACR)
Elimination of Rule of three (RDA)
instead of
Rule of three (AACR)
Record attributes (RDA)
instead of
Describe (AACR)
11. 4. Will RDA affect the use of LCSH?
No, there is no effect on the use of
Library of Congress subject headings.
12. 3. Will RDA affect the use of my classification
scheme?
No, there is no effect on the use of Dewey
and Library of Congress classification
schemes.
13. 2. Can I use MARC21 with RDA?
Yes, RDA is not dependent on MARC or
other encoding standards. MARC can
accommodate RDA rules and relationships.
http://www.loc.gov/marc/RDAinMARC29.html
14. 1. Do I have to change the AACR2 records in my
catalog to RDA?
No, there is no need to change them. Nor will there be
an automatic flip of Library of Congress records.
Practically speaking, many libraries will not
implement RDA. RDA will be rolled out for the rest of
our lives.

“The rabbit-hole went straight on like a tunnel for some
way and then dipped suddenly down, so suddenly that
Alice had not a moment to think about stopping herself
before she found herself falling down what seemed to
be a very deep well.”
