information about meetings, professional development opportunities, curriculum and program development,
grant awards, and school committee news. The bulletin is also the official vehicle for job postings. Please
read the bulletin regularly and use it to inform colleagues of meetings and other school news.
Dear Colleagues,
In the fall of 2008, we experienced the dramatic beginnings of deteriorating global financial markets, and we are
still working toward recovery. The spring of 2009 brought the surprise advent of the H1N1 flu. I remember clearly
my deep concern over the first reports of flu-related deaths in Mexico sweeping the media after April vacation, the
prior predictions of an imminent pandemic flu appearing to come to fruition. As we anticipated winter, we anxiously
awaited replenished supplies of flu vaccine and hand sanitizer. Fortunately, the flu season has been much milder
than anticipated, and we look forward to improved vaccine supplies and more planful dissemination of it in the next
season. But now, just as many of us were anticipating what might be a very much appreciated early end to the
school year because of lack of snow this winter... we got rain ... in fact, lots and lots of record-breaking rain.
Fortunately, the school buildings have held up pretty well, with minimal permanent damage. Unfortunately, I know
many of you have been dealing with wet basements, loss of heat or electricity, and destruction and loss of
personal property. It does seem we've been digging down, deep and often, into our own personal wells of
resiliency. It is especially at times like these when I think taking the time to acknowledge, thank, or compliment
someone for good work, for taking the time to listen to you or for being your friend, can go a very long way and,
hopefully, may come back all around many times over.

Are You Interested in Administrative Initial Licensure?
TEC (The Education Cooperative) offers a district-based Administrative Initial Licensure Program that is approved
by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. A new cohort begins in May.
Classes meet Wednesday evenings during the school year. No summer courses are required.
An information session will take place Monday, April 5, 4:-00 pm, at The Education Cooperative, 1112 High
Street (Route 109), Dedham.

2. Professional Development Primary Source Summer Institutes 2010
As members of Primary Source, we have the opportunity
to participate in a variety of summer institutes that are
described below. We are guaranteed ten reserved seats
in the institutes. This means ten total seats, NOT ten
seats for each institute. If you are interested in attending
an institute, please contact Janice Gross indicating which institute you are interested in attending. Spaces will
be filled on a first come, first served basis. The registration deadline is April 16, but earlier is always better. Full

Spring Social Studies Seminar Series 1 Inservice Credit or 15 PDPs
Seminars designed to enrich content understanding and model use of thematic approaches to social studies.
Teachers will participate in post-seminar discussions to utilize content and pedagogy in preparation for the

project or lesson plan utilizing the materials or information presented during the seminar.
• Pathway 2 = attend all four (4) seminars and discussion, and complete homework readings.

3. Additional Teaching With Technology Series Offerings
The SMART Board interactive whiteboard is a touch-sensitive display that connects to your computer and digital
projector. Using a finger, you can control computer applications, write notes, search the Internet, and annotate
and save your work. The SMART Notebook software is an application that lets you add interactivity to lessons
through an array of powerful education tools and resources. Attend this three-hour workshop to learn the basics
of how to use the SMART Board and the Notebook software in your classroom to engage students in hands-on
interactive learning. This is an Intro Workshop.

Requesting C&I Proposals
Proposals for C&I projects are currently being accepted. There are two funding sources
available, one that requires projects to be completed by June 30, 2010 and the other
that will fund projects that take place beginning July 1, 2010 - June 30, 2011.
C&I compensation is granted for curriculum development projects or task force members
to work on building based or system-wide initiatives. Priority will be given to proposals
designed to meet system goals.

EMI One: Anti‐Racist Teaching Practices ‐ Talking about Race
This 36 hour ‐ 3 credit graduate course is designed for educators who want to expand their understanding of
how race, ethnicity and other forms of marginalization impact learning and achievement.

Using Multicultural Literature and Media to Affirm Identity
This course is designed to encourage K‐12 educators to recognize the connection between a positive sense

students, parents, other educators and administrators around topics related to race and academic
achievement.

5. Graduate Course Reimbursement
Course reimbursement funding of $22,500 is available to distribute in FY11 among qualified teachers for
graduate course work which is done as part of a master's degree program to fulfill that teacher's obligations for
the Massachusetts educators professional license and for course work required to achieve the next stage of
licensure culminating in a professional license. To apply for this course reimbursement, please send--by June 1,
2010--the following to Valerie Spruill:
•your name •evidence of your enrollment in an applicable master/doctoral degree program •name and
description of the course •evidence of cost of the course •proof of payment (VISA/MC) •transcript. You will be
notified of the amount awarded to you by July 1, 2010.

Elementary Special Education Summer Positions
Special Education Teacher Positions 7/1/10-8/6/10
Special Education Teachers ($39.49/hr) to teach students with language-based learning disabilities in grades 2-
5. The position is part-time (8:30-11:30) each morning for six weeks. Training and experience teaching reading,
written language and math skills to students with disabilities is necessary and Moderate Special Needs
certification is preferred.
Lead Teachers for Full Day Six Week Program 7/1/10-8/6/10
Lead Teachers ($39.49/hr) to lead small group lessons for students with intensive special needs. Other duties
include consulting with academic and enrichment teachers, providing guidance to teaching assistants, overseeing
students' schedules, etc. Training and experience teaching students with intensive disabilities is necessary and
Severe Needs certification is preferred.

Teaching Assistants for Four and Six Week Programs
Teaching assistants ($18 an hour or current rate of pay) to support students with disabilities in special education
classes and in some academic, enrichment, and recreational activities for both the AM (8:30-11:30) and the PM
(12:00-3:00) sessions. Preference will be given to candidates who are currently working in WPS, with training in
elementary education, special education, or related field and/or experience with students with disabilities.

Middle School Summer School

The Wellesley Middle School would like to hire a speech and language pathologist for its summer school. The
speech and language pathologist would work with individuals and groups of middle school students on their
language and social skill development. The summer school runs from July 1 to August 6. This is a 20 hour a week
