3. DEFINITION OF BIODIVERSITY
• The variability among living organisms from
all sources including, among other things,
terrestrial, marine, and other aquatic
ecosystems and the ecological complexes of
which they are a part; this includes diversity
within species, between species and of
ecosystems.
4. Types of biodiversity
• There are 3 types of biodiversity :
• GENETIC diversity: genetic variability or
diversity within a species
• SPECIES diversity:diversity between
different species
• Ecosystem diversity:diversity betweem
different region

7. •Why biodiversity is important ??
• Biodiversity increases ecosystem productivity; all
of the species in that ecosystem, no matter their
size, have a big role. A diverse ecosystem can
prevent a nd recover from lots of disasters.
Humans depend on plants and animals. For
example, one quarter of all prescription
medicines in the U.S. have ingredients from
plants. If a diverse ecosystem is more
productive, it's easier to get these plants.
• Humans also directly benefit from a diverse
ecosystem: plants, clean water and air, provide
oxygen, and control erosion.
8. LOSS OF BIODIVERSITY
• GLOBAL WARMING
AND CLIMATE
CHANGE
• INCREASED
POLLUTION
• SOIL EROSION AND
LOSS OF FERTILITY
9. VALUE OF A TREE
• A TREE THET LIVES FOR 50
GENERATES:
• Rs 5.3 lakhs worth of oxygen.
• Facilities rs 6.4 lakh worth of soil erosion
control
• Provides rs 5.3lakhs worth shelters for
birds and animals
10. Values of trees
• Creates rs 10.5 lakhs
worth air pollution
control.
• Recycles rs6.4 lakhs
worth of fertility.
• Besides provide
flowers,fruits and
timber.
11. BIODIVERSITY OF PLANTS
• Environmental conditions play a
key role in defining the function
and distribution of plants, in
combination with other factors.
Changes in long term
environmental conditions that can
be collectively coinedclimate
change are known to have had
enormous impacts on plant
diversity patterns in the past and
are seen as having significant
current impacts.[1] It is predicted
that climate change will remain one
of the major drivers
of biodiversitypatterns in the future.
