The English language is full of
surprises and curiosities that
many people are unaware of.
In this presentation,we will
explore some of the most
fascinating and unusual
aspects of the language that
is spoken by over 1.5 billion
people worldwide.
3. The Most Common Letter
E is the most common letter in
the English language,
appearing in roughly 11% of all
words.It's also the most
commonly used vowel and the
second most commonly used
letter
,after T.
4. The Least Common Letter
The least common letter in
the English language is the
letter “ Z." It is used less
frequently compared to other
letters in the English
alphabet.
5. Crutch words
Crutch word is name for words
that we repeat often in
sentence even though they
add no meaning. “literally”,
“like”, “basically” etc.
-> “Then I was like , omg,
then like , he went there ,
and like… ” in this sentence
“like” is crutch word.
6. English Alphabet
The English alphabet we know
today has 26 letters. However,
earlier variations included 29
letters and more.
->letters like ‘ash’ (æ) and
‘ethel’ œ were dropped.

There are some words that appeared
in the dictionary because of printing
errors. The nonexistent word “dord”
appeared in the dictionary for eight
years in the mid-20th century. It
became known as a “ghost word.”

The word nice was originally used for
describing something foolish, stupid
or senseless.

An “ambigram” is a word or
words which can be read in
more than one direction,
either the word reads the
same or will have a
completely different meaning.
