Distronic and
Distronic Plus
are the systems
used in PCT.
System is active
above speed 20
mph. Distronic
Plus will apply
brakes
autonomously. It
is active at lower
speeds 0-120
mph vs. 20-120
mph for
Distronic.

2014 - IIHS PCT applies
brakes and
retracts seat
belts. Seat belt
retraction is
operational when
the vehicle speed
is above 4 mph
and the relative
speed difference
is greater than 19
mph. Same for
the Brake Assist.

Working of PCT
ď¨ The radar system emits invisible high
frequency radio waves (Faster than sound).
ď¨ These waves collides the nearest obstacles or
objects and bounce back to the sensors.
ď¨ The sensors installed evaluate the distance
and time travelled by the signals.

ď¨ The system ECU, on the basis of the gathered
information, immediately determines the carâs
position, speed, distance and relative velocity,
if there is potential accident threat or situation
and warns the driver about a potential crash or
accident.

ď¨ It employs an infrared camera behind the
steering wheel that monitors where your head
is at.
ď¨ If your face is turned away from the road when
the system detects a potential collision, the
Driver Attention Monitor warns you and, if
necessary, gently applies the brakes.
ď¨ If a collision is unavoidable, the same PCT
measures prepares Brake Assist and tightens
the seatbelts.
