Rishita Paharya studied a 2-year fashion design diploma program where she learned about design elements, patterns, and creating 2D and 3D forms using lines and shapes. She created various pleats by hand using different folding techniques on fabric to give clothing a sophisticated yet comfortable style. For her collection on the "Plisse Effect", she experimented with different types of paper foldings and chose two styles to apply to a dress, bodice, and stole she designed. The pieces used interlinking folds and pleating techniques to create interesting silhouettes and structures for the final dress.

2. As you have seen in my previous pages, I have learnt elements of design,
diaper patterns and also worked upon 2 dimensional geometric motifs with
help of lines and shapes which were made with protector and compass
manually and also on corel and photoshop. And by using lines and shapes
I made 3 dimensional forms which creates th silhouette of the dress. I also
created pleats with the use of lines and shapes. Without knowing design
basics I was not able to make my creation.
In the Identity Exhibition 2017, which is students work exhibition and was
held on 9th and 10th November wherein a lot of jury members came to see
our collection and a lot of students from various schools came to hear
us which helped us to build our confidence.

INTRODUCTION

3. Pleats are basically folds in fabric that are formed by folding fabric onto itself. It is commonly used in clothing to
gather a wide piece of fabric to a narrower circumference. In industries these sort of foldings are done by
pleaters( a machine which is an easy way to make pleats). I have made various pleats by hand using method
like plait, gather, dart or wrinkle and many other specific terms which are use to relate manipulation of fabric.
This is a very classic way of designing which not only gives the attire a sophisticated and appealing look but
also carries flow and movement which makes the dress stylish, yet comfortable for the wearer. Many
famous A designers have found their inspiration in this craft such as Issey Miyake who has made his creations
with the name Pleats Please.

4. FOLDINGS
We have made different types of pleats in the
preliminary version of a product built to test a
concept or process which leads to a final
selec on of the same onto the dress.

5. The aesthetic design is derived from experiments
with folded paper.
After making all the foldings, I have chosen these
two foldings for my dress.
First I have made foldings on paper so that I was able to identify the estimation of the fabric and look
of the dress.

to shoulder points, accross the collar bone.
