6. Synopsis
This project deals with the construction and designing of residence space for Mr.X business tycoon
nestled in ajmer with his family having his wife and two sons.
If the home is beautiful the location is equally enticing. This home is located in civil lines, ajmer.
The area of plot given is 4500 sq. ft.. its backside is having a co9mmercial zone and the rest is
having the residence building. The plot is rectangular in shape with direction being oriented from
SN to EN facing on south east. The shape of the plan of building is based on space linked by a
common spaces” Spatial organization. The house is constructed based on sustainable design
considering the location topography, climatology, building envelope, wind directions, day lighting,
ventilation etc..
The space planning of the house caters on effective grouping of similar area with more light and
ventilation from all sides with open connectivity spaces, to visually connect the spaces.
The entrance of the house is having a vestibule, in which plants are taken, which are leading the
eye’s towards the secondary living area. And the primary living room is connected and linked with
the dining and the kitchen area.
The dining area is having a bi-fold door which is connecting the deck with the dining area. In front
of the primary living room is the library which has a beautiful landscape view.
The stairs taken in the plan are open well, so that the two floors i.e., the first floor and the ground
floor are connected with each other.
The first floor is attached with the terrace garden and its view is captured from the bedroom.
7. Introduction
Good design is one which identifies with the personality of the person residing in the space. It is
beyond asthetic and functionality.
Shaping dreams and giving it a form is a challenging task for any creative field. In designing, it’s
the passion to create and see our thoughts taking shape in a built form; self analyzing and the
vigour to do better keeps us going.
I am a student of interior designing, doing my bachelor of science in interior designing and along
with this I am developing my technical skills by technical oriented diplomas program of two years to
make myself industry friendly, that is my subjection is of total five years in this field.
I am committed to create spaces that are simple and at the same time functional and sophisticated.
I quest for trying to create a new design language keeping in mind the context and climate of the
site and a need to constantly go beyond the brief and create structure not perceived before. My
design should have open spaces and we make it a point to merge outdoors with the interiors.
We can design better if we understand and admire nature and make intelligent intervention which
leaves nature intact while we built around it. Any development or building activity is in one way or
another ravaging the environment. However, ‘green‘ is a concept that needs to be a part of our life.
Our attitude, our thoughts process. Building is only a small part of all our activities that touch the
environment, but as they are growing on a large scale, a small effort for sustainable development
can be the reason for our existence.
Creativity and context leads the design process with the site, the environment and the function of
building. Internal and external environment of a house are not completely divided by a building
envelope. They overlap through a series of layer, cycles and systems . these are :
a) Repel rainwater
b) Control water vapour
c) Retain heat or coolness
d) Handle air transmission
To design better airflow we need to pay attention to a main fact that building envelope is a
complicated interconnected mesh. The elements of air, heat, water, material, light and energy
invariably coexist with each other and cannot be considered in insolation. The principal of “push me
– pull you” is to be follow in design. If we change a design on the basis of push me – pull you
principal, no element can be transformed without reviewing the impact upon all the other element.
8. Building envelope Orientation
A room which is more sun filled makes a person happy than a space which is dull and dark. It is
seen that a space with less light ( natural light ) suffer from a condition known as SAD, seasonal
affective disorder, characterized by depression, fatigue and other symptoms.
In India the climate is dry and humid at times throughout the year and the house is enveloped by
these factors, so my main consideration of the project has been followed keeping into mind the
climatology of the place.
Wind and the air movement on the surface of the building generate differencial pressure that drive
the air through gaps and opening intentionally or otherwise to ventilate a building. Depending upon
the varied and the dynamic conditions of the external environment, climate and the requirement of
internal spaces, a building envelope is the surface area through which ventilation can occur and it
must always act as a barrier to unwanted air leakage.
Ventilation of the house
9. Building Byelaws consists of certain rules and regulations framed by municipal or town planning.
The aim of framing the byelaws is to ensure provision of reasonable minimum requirement and
standards in the planning, designing and the construction activities of buildings in the zone.
I concentrate my design ideologies on new material application and opportunities offered by new
building techniques, and lighting and multimedia application with a comprehensive view to
sustainable design. I always keep myself product abrast through magazines like inside outside,
society interiors, casaviva, elite décor, etc., trade shows and fairs like stone mart, inside outside
mega show, through local markets, newspapers and the books we study throughout our course.
I also kept in mind Louis kahn principal of served and servant apaces, as in diagram:
Louis Isadore Kahn

Served spaces : Servent spaces :

Powder room
10. While designing the front facade, I also kept in mind the aspect and the prospect of the building. I
always analyze and try to visualize each and every aspect of the project. My frist question is, what is
the client’s brief? After contemplating on these questions, I visit the site, smell the air and sense the
sun falling on the land.
The creation are an outflow of the in depth study and design to the minutest detail. Incorporating the
committed timeline and budgetary boundaries.
In my subsequent pages you will see all these things incorporated in my plan. My project is divided
into two parts:
Structural part:
Foundation
Beam and pillar
Damp proofing
Anti termite treatment
Water supply and drainage system
Placements of doors and windows and etc.
Furnishing Part :
Paint
Lighting
Paintings and photo frame
Furniture
Accessories like curtains, carpets, rugs, bed covers, cushion and etc.
A true designer has to uplift visitors the beyond the boundaries of brick and stone wall that
surrounding them and raise their spirit to a higher plane.

26. Planning Consideration
To design any residential area proper planning and brain storming need to be done. The planning
phase of a residence is the most important phase, because this lead to the development of
structure of the house based on the shape and form chosen. The residence design should be
planned based on the needs of the person and it has been seen all human beings requirements
and needs are to a certain extent similar. What we have seen in magazines and books show
casing beautiful images of decorated room by which a person feels happy to see them. But Interior
Design is not so easy like the attractive image of the books. The design has to be functional so that
the person can feel the space, express his self at the same time enjoy the space.
After planning on the site, which is given to me, I have done brain storming for the construction and
designing of the exterior part like main entrance pillars, main boundary wall, pathways, stairs an
etc.
27. After that, I have started the space planning of interior part, during the space planning, I have kept
in mind about the Louis kahn’s principles, anthropometrics and ergonomics and along with it. I have
also kept in mind about the connectivity of the space that they are linked with each other. And for
that I make a layouts of spaces planning on papers with doing some brainstorming on it.
44. The area given to me for designing is kitchen and dining area. Before starting the space
planning, I made a questionnaire regarding the needs of the client
Q. Which type of kitchen you want?
1. Island kitchen
2. L- shaped kitchen
3. U- shaped kitchen
Q.Where you want you Dining area to be.
1.Attached with kitchen
2. Separate space
Q. Do you want a view from Dining Area?
- Yes
Q. For how many people you required the Dining ?
1. Four
2. Six
3. Eight
Plan area to be designed
8
6
3
45. And according to my above questionnaire, I have done some brainstorming for the space
planning.
51. The space planning which you see here of the kitchen has been planned and arrived after a lot
of brainstorming. I first studied about the basic methods how a person behaves, his activities
and working areas in this space. I am suppose to workout first with the efficient space planning
of this area and then move over to the design development, keeping into the mind the concept
Indian mela towards which I got attracted to.
To design an area is not easy as we have to develop the space aesthetically and
simultaneously vibrant and enthusiastic space which help to coordinate all activities performed
by the client here.
By paying attention to the client requirement and needs, I have reached to this space planning
. In which, I have taken the kitchen and the dining together, which is open. For giving a
contemporary look to the kitchen, I have used ¼ th
part of the circle that is the quadrant and
during their arrangement , I have followed gestalt principle, law of Closer and law of good
gestalt. And also I have kept in mind about ergonomics and anthropometrics. In the dining
area, I have taken the bifold door which is connected with the deck so that, the outside view of
beautiful landscaping can be seen. I have placed my kitchen and dining in my plan according
to the daylighting and view required for this space and the direction.
54. Designing Process
Interior designing isn’t just about home decoration. It is concerned with creating functional
and beautiful to look at interior space in all sorts of places including houses, public building
and commercial properties. The imaginative and efficient use of colours, pattern, texture, light
and space is central to an interior designer’s practice. Interior designers concern them selves
with all aspects of the design of a space from choosing colour schemes through to selecting
interior finishes such as wall covering, flooring furnishing and furniture.
The modern movement played an important role in the design industry with designer like Le
Corbusier, Louis kahan, Frank Lloyd Wright. The contribution lead to metiailously designed
houses with proper planning and consideration to functionality with with well developed clean
uncluttered space.
Keeping this into mind and elaborate study was conducted by me through various books and
magazines. I visited many of the website to study how the houses of the world, were design
and at the same time houses of traditional Indian house. The first point which pay attention
have was my client .
My client wanted a higher end design layout where an elegant ambiance could be
developed with an addition of sophisticated and at the same time freshness.
For this I make a collage of the various element of the concept which I took “Carnival/
Indian mela”. This collage gave me idea to select the colours, texture and the feel. Which I
gave to me client house. The colours choosen for the room to be design kitchen and dining
was dalt in the following manner.
To design my kitchen the next step in my design development is the formulation of the type of
concept generation can be an empirical concept where use select a concept that we observe
through our naked senses such as the colour, material type, texture etc.
In the abstract concept we develop a design through feeling and moods. In my project I
have selected the imperical concept where I have resorted to the usage of my 5 senses i.e.
eyes, nose, ears, skin, tounge and the concept being Indian mela.
59. For any kitchen design we need to use hygiene colours. Preferably white and tints of all most
colours with focusing more on colour related with food like peach, light yellow, mint green,
bedge etc. Hard colours like red, dark orange, indigo blue should be avoided. The light colour
makes the spaces appear large along with material choise which are impervious to water and at
the same time usage of texture which are glossy, matt, shiny, cool, transulant and give a feeling
of lucidness and at the same time hygine factor should be emphasized. I need to focus the
selection of colours with the important area of its subjection to light i.e. how does the colour
behave at night in the artificial light, my prefreance of light colour would be light yellow, that is
incandescent at the same time white cool light. I would prefer to added one bright and vivid
colour in the kitchen to add mistry and emphasizing to my design.
Acording to the concept of mood and colors, I had done brainstorming that how I can applied
space and use proper material for merging the texture and colour. And for that particular space, I
have also taken out the option and from this option I have choose the final option by looking into
the space activity and mood and from that final option, I had made material board which I have
used in my kitchen.

63. Brainstorming for selecting a materials
The various textures, finishes and the feel of various surfaces, the usage of fabric used in my
design are all depended on the development of the texture which I have researched and
devised from the concept picture of Indian mela.
