Shri Raja Rao born on 8th November, 1908 in Hassan in
the Princely state of MYSORE. [ Now in Karnataka in
South India ]
He was an Indian writer of English Language, novels &
short-stories...whose works are deeply rooted in
Metaphysics.
He was born into a Smartha Brahmin Family.
He was the eldest of 9 siblings.

3. Introduction of
Kanthapura
Kanthapura is the novel by Raja Rao.
1st published in London, 1938 and was written when
Rao was in France : “I wrote Kanthapura in a thirteenth
century castle in the FrenchAlps belonging to the
Dauphins of France & I slept and worked on the novel in
the room of the Queen.”
First major Indian Novel in English.
The story of a South Indian village named “
Kanthapura”.
The novel is narrated in the form of a Sthala – Purana
by an old woman of the village – ACHAKKA.

LAGAAN a popular Bollywood movie , produced & star
by Amir Khan.
Directed byAshish Gowarikar.
Won the audience Award at the 2001.
Narrative style of movie is very much linear OR very
much Indian style of narrative.
