Silicone Masterbatch
Silicone masterbatch is a kind of function masterbatch
formed by Ultra High Molecular Weight siloxane polymer
dispersed in thermoplastic resin such as PE, PP,ABS~~~~
Widely used in carrier resin compatible system compounds
to
 Lower surface COF of finished plastic parts
 Enhance mar resistance and wear resistance
 As processing aids to increase melt flow & cycle time reduction

Properties of siloxane polymer :
 Its non-polar with low surface energy (about 21 to 22 dyne/cm)
 Si-O bond has a big energy, so siloxane polymer has a stable chemical
properties
How silicone masterbatch work in plastics
Cause the properties of siloxane polymer{non-polar with low surface energy (about 21 to 22
dyne/cm)}, so when added in plastic during melting processing its has a tendency to migrate
to the surface ; while, since it has a large molecular weight, it can't move out completely. So
there is a dynamic lubrication layer formed between the plastic surface and screw. With the
processing going on, this lubrication layer continuously being taken away and produced. So
the flow of resin and processing were getting improved,
This is a scatter picture of siloxane polymer in plastic,
we can see that the siloxane polymer can homogeneous distribute in plastics and form an
average size of 1 to 2 microns oil particles, it is those oil particles which offer the products
better surface quality, including nice hand feeling, lower COF and greater abrasion and scratch
resistance.
Application in PP/TPO compound
Engineering plastics and metals have been extensively replaced by
polypropylene (PP) based materials in automotive parts in order to
achieve weight reductions and cost savings.
While light weight PP based material with good anti-scratch
property is the ideal material we want. so silicone masterbatch
widely used in this field for anti-scratch property improvement.
Different Anti-scratch agent in the market
Three kinds of anti-scratch agents have been used in automotive PP based
material
 Low molecular weight agent(following refer as "LMW agent") such as amide,
PE wax etc…
 New non-migrate surface agent(SR100 from BASF)
 Silicone masterbatch(Dow corning(MB50-001) Wacker(pellet s) Silike(LYSI-
306)
Advantage and weakness of those additives

Summary of this three kinds of agents
 LMW agent: though it can enhance anti-scratch property but it will migrate to the surface
of plastic part and degrade under UV exposure, which will cause tackiness, so it will
repleaced by other additive in this market
 SR 100 : By changing the degree of light refraction, give people a visual illusion, in fact
it didnt enhance scratch resistance, and its odorous, will be replaced as well
 Silicone masterbatch is a kind of ultra-high molecular weight additive can effectively
enhance anti-scratch property, non-migration, odorless and low VOC emission, can​
achieved criteria of VW testing system such as artificial accelerated aging and atmospheric​ ​ ​ ​
exposure test ​
With the development of society, price attractiveness isn't the only thing people take into
account, how eco-friendly a car is which will be a big thing. the requirements of material
used in a car will become more and more demanding. so odorless and low VOC emission
silicone masterbatch will be a trend in this field. And many big companies take silicone
masterbatch MB50-001 as the standard in this field.
SILIKE product used in Automotive PP/TPO compounds
Silicone masterbatch LYSI-306 is a pelletized formulation with 50% ultra high
molecular weight siloxane polymer dispersed in PP resin. Typically used in PP
compatible system compounds which has a very high requirement on anti-scratch
property like automotive TPE, TPV compounds, automobile interior trims
compounds ( PP,TPO) which can equivalently replece MB50-001, already success
used by many PP based material manufactuers in and out of China.

From above data we can see that our LYSI-306 can equivalently replace
MB50-001
