department to assist in developing standards and educational protocols for most
surgical procedures. Serve as a resource to staff for procedures such as
Urogyncologic, Oncology GYN, Ophthmalogic, General, Plastic and

Implements the nursing process to develop and implement an individualized plan
of care for bariatric surgical clients. Responsibities included:
Preoperative - provided education to clients specific to their surgical needs by
helping the client understand the pathological process involved that required the
need for surgical intervention.
Intraoperative - assisted the surgical team including the 1) anesthesiologist
during the induction of anesthesia; 2) surgical technician with setting up and
maintaining a sterile environment; and, 3) surgeon by being available throughout
the surgery to provide additional instruments, blood and blood products, and
assist in the prevention of infection.

Surgery
Worked in an advanced practice role as circulating/scrub nurse to the surgeon
under standardized procedures, provided aid in exposure, hemostasis, tissue
handling, and use of instrumentation, dressings and intraoperative charting.
Received working knowledge of the principles of asepsis and infection control;
recognized surgical anatomy, physiology, and operative technique related to
standards of the operating room nurse . Recognized surgical hazards and
initiated appropriate corrective and preventive action in a circulating/surgical
scrub role.
Circulated for Cardiac, Neuro, General Surgery, Orthopaedics, ENT, Vascular,
and Plastic Surgery. Assisted anesthesia during induction and intubation of
patient. Also assisted with line placement and other monitoring equipment, and
insured blood products were available and standing by during a case. Responsible
for documenting on the inter-operative chart, maintaining and updating surgeon
preference cards, and ordering/administering medication as directed by the
2. anesthesiologist and surgeon.
