These are photos of some of the on-going projects that I
have designed working currently as a Creative Architect
at Your Great Outdoors. There have been a variety of pro-
jects, both, residential and commercial featuring outdoor
rooms, kitchens, house extensions, pool, spools, spas and
water features, firepits and fireplaces, softscapes and
hardscapes.
These photos show the fine detailing of the arbor,
the kitchen with its exposed columns & stone clad
window lintel, the stamped concrete walkway, the
derricks soon to be turned into a water feature. All
these elements were culminated into reality from
computer generated rendered drawings, both, in 2D
& 3D.

Designed and detailed several backyards in Houston & Aus-
tin, TX, both, as an employee of private firms and as a
free-lance landscape architect. Assisted clients in choos-
ing locally materials for, both, hard and soft scapes. En-
couraged use of sustainable materials and materials that
required low maintenance.
Prepared detail drawings using AutoCad for walk-
ways, steps, water features, fences, trellises, tree-
planters, pool features, outdoor kitchens etc. It was
always a challenge to draw something on paper and
then make it work on site. More often than not,
changes had to be made on-site to accommodate ex-
isting site conditions. It was satisfying to make it
functional in the end.

Working in the U.K., any new development needed planning
permission and, a LVIA (Landscape and Visual Assessment)
was a part of this planning permission package that had to
be submitted to the local planning Council. The site has to
be analyzed for its visibility from up close and far, and for
views, both, from the site and to the site.
The site also had to analyzed for its micro-climate,
available entry ways, and “ease of use” path lines
created by people, use of various areas in the given
space, neighboring properties and their type. This
detailed analysis enabled careful consideration of
the effect of the proposed development on the giv-
en site and whether planning permission should be
granted for the same.

The above drawing was prepared for planning permission
for access to a sub-station in the middle of a public park
in Hackney, London. AutoCAD, Illustrator, and Photoshop
was used to prepare this drawing. 8 options for various
access points was given and the one having the least ef-
fect on the park was chosen. An LVIA was carried out.
The drawings below were sketches made for two
backyard designs in Houston. Sometimes, clients can-
not visualize in plan and elevation alone. In that case,
three-dimensional sketches are the most effective
way of presentation. More often than not, several op-
tions are drawn up
so that the client
gets a choice.
Wooden fence and
gate designs, grot-
to-like fountains
and water features
complemented with
the appropriate
plant material cre-
ated a good sense
of space. These
were designs for
Houston, TX, USA.

The housing
blocks had a
walking and bi-
cycling track
around it, with
play areas and
roof-top gar-
dens which
again had to encourage habitats; thus green and
brown roof detailing was done. All handicap-
accessibility codes were adhered to.
This was a landscape project for a housing complex on
Deptford Creek feeding into the Thames in Greenwich,
Kent, England. Due to the stringent planning policies, the
project governed by environmental laws, as a part of
which, the dock walls had to be built of environmentally
friendly materials that would house bird and insect habi-
tats.

The outdoor areas of The Gateway were designed
to comprise areas for lunch gatherings, general cir-
culation to and from parking, and smoker nooks. A
palette of environmentally-friendly paving and fur-
niture was used. Raised planters were used to ac-
centuate the outdoor experience. Public art was
displayed in these areas as focal points. Other fea-
tures included water bodies.
This was , both, an outdoors and indoors landscape project
for a commercial office building called The Gateway in
Leeds, England. Several options for the design of the atri-
um were developed to suit the architecture and ambience
of the building. Sight-lines, circulation, safety, and func-
tionality were the essential factors considered in the de-
sign.

This was a public park restoration project in Rugby, U.K.
Its historical character was integrated with modern fea-
tures such as the benches around the bandstand and the
water feature (details of both shown above). New play ar-
eas for different age groups, and a Multi Utility Games
Area (MUGA) was designed. Existing tennis courts and
bowling green were maintained.
The benches around
the bandstand were
designed by me and
the design was reg-
istered with the
U.K. Intellectual
Property Office
(IPO).
The historic plant-
ing material was researched and
similar plants that could thrive in
the present-day were used in the
planting palette. A sensory garden
