VEX Robotics Competition

2. Introduction
 Valerie Varnuska, a resident of Westbury, NY, enjoys
a wide range of extra-curricular activities from art and
dance to astronomy and science. Valerie Varnuska
developed an interest in robotics and takes great
pleasure in watching robotic competitions on
television.
With competitions worldwide at the local, regional,
and national levels, VEX Robotics encourages
elementary, middle, and high school students to
further their STEM (science, technology, engineering
and math) education with hands-on projects. Student
teams taking part in the yearly robotic competitions
are tasked with building their own robot to compete
against rival robots in specific games.

3. VEX Robotics Competition
 Each year 1,400 student robotics teams gain
entry to the VEX Robotics World Championship,
presented in conjunction with the Robotics
Education & Competition Foundation, in
Louisville, Kentucky, through national qualifiers.
For the 10th annual competition to be held April
19-25, 2017, participants will be required to
prepare their robots to play Starstruck, a game
played in a 12-foot x 12-foot square field with the
goal of moving cubes and stars into the
opposition's space.
