Integrity at work
PRESENTED BY
K.Vaheedha Rehman
What is INTEGRITY ?
Having integrity means doing right thing in a reliable way
Its actually a ‘Quality’ of being honesty and having strong moral
values
Basic idea of the integrity is- “Doing right thing when nobody’s
watching you”
And having integrity is not lying in other words-doing what you said
you would do.
INTEGRITY
Believe/feel Do/Act
Say/Think
DEFINITION:
The quality of being honest and having
Strong moral principles.
‘a gentleman of complete integrity’
The state of being whole and undivided.
‘upholding territorial integrity and national sovereignty’
INTEGRITY
Day to day life examples of integrity

..
Never betray a friend’s trust even if you get in trouble.
Do not gossip or talking badly about someone .
Ignore someone’s advice on how to cheat on your taxes and not get
caught.
Do not let someone else take the blame for something you did.
If someone gives you confidential information ,never tell anyone what
you know.
When it is obvious to you a relationship is over ,don’t drag it out but
discuss it openly.
INTEGRITY AT WORK PLACE

‱Don’t let teammates take the fall. Work together
as a team. This builds trust and shows integrity.
‱Never steal supplies from the work place.
‱If you find yourself in a conflict of interest ,get
out of it as soon as possible.
‱Don’t accept praise of acclaim for some one
else’s work. That includes stealing someone’s
idea or pretending to have worked on a
successful project
‱When making a business deal ,make sure
everything is on the table and nothing was left
out .
‱If your company asks you to do something
against your personal code of conduct ,refuse. If
it means losing a good paying job ,so be it .find
a more ethical company to work for.
THE THREE FORMS OF INTEGRITY:
FORMS OF INTEGRITY
INTERNAL
INTEGRITY
EXTERNAL
INTEGRITY
IMAGE INTEGRITY
INTERNAL INTEGRITY - This is your integrity at the deepest level. Is your
integrity just for show because it looks good, or do you truly live your life
with integrity in mind? Internal integrity is about being able to do the right
thing, even if no one is looking and even if you will receive absolutely no
credit for doing so. Doing the right thing, even though it may be the harder
option, despite no one looking will really be a huge step towards ensuring
that you live with integrity.
EXTERNAL INTEGRITY - This is what you portray to those around you. You
have high external integrity when your actions are consistent with your
thoughts and what you are saying. If you are saying one thing, but your
actions say something else - you have some more work to do!
THE THREE FORMS OF INTEGRITY:
IMAGE INTEGRITY - Similar to external integrity - this is the
image of your integrity. Whilst you might outwardly be
displaying the right actions and taking the right path, can
these actions be thought of in any other way? Are you
leaving your image open to interpretation? people have
great imaginations. When we don't understand something,
we are very quick to make assumptions and forms beliefs
about why something is occurring. Looking after your
image integrity is about ensuring that none of your actions
or words can be misconstrued.
 Primarily, integrity in the workplace is so
important as these traits foster a positive
workplace culture. One where there is open
communication, good decision making and a
strong moral compass guiding all decisions and
actions. Whereas, irresponsible behaviour and
distrust can make a work environment
uncomfortable and tense.
If you are known for your integrity, you will gain
trust and respect from the people around you.
WHY IS INTEGRITY IMPORTANT ?
What customer wants to deal with an
organisation that doesn't keep their word,
that says one thing but does something
else or that offers bad products or
services? They wouldn't. Instead they
would want to deal with the
organisation who can be trusted to follow
through with what they have agreed upon,
that have trustworthy employees and a
good brand message.
Integrity is not just important
on a personal level, it is also
vitally important at a workplace
level. Organisations known for
their integrity perform better.
TIPS FOR DEMONSTRATING INTEGRITY IN THE WORK PLACE:
Build trusting and respectful
relationships –
Trust and respect are the ingredients of a
healthy, positive workplace culture. Polite
communication, respecting your
colleague’s thoughts and ideas and
continuously working on relationships
demonstrates that you are a team
player. Working as a team builds up trust
and also shows that people can rely on
you
Open and honest communication is the
way to ensure that people know exactly
what is going on around them, where
everybody stands and the best way
forward.
communicate openly and honestly-
Policies are designed to guide you
as to the best practice. If you choose
not to follow them or if you use
shortcuts, it will lead to bad
decisions, problems and mistakes
that will need fixing.
Follow Company Policies -
Demonstrate Responsible Behaviour -
Ensure that there is no reason for your
colleagues to ever question your
conduct by demonstrating ethical and
moral behaviour at all times. This includes
avoiding using the company’s equipment
or resources for personal use, striving to
complete your task before deadlines and
showing enthusiasm and commitment to
your work.
Work Diligently -
This is a very powerful way of
demonstrating integrity as it shows that
you are responsible for your work
time. Making personal calls, surfing the
internet, texting or snacking at the work
desk, are some of the activities that
distract one from working
efficiently. Focusing on your job
responsibilities while at your desk will
show your colleagues, manager, and
even customers, that you have strong
work ethics.
Admit to and Learn from Your Mistakes-
It is common to make mistakes as you
work, but you should admit the mistake
without putting the blame on someone
else. This shows that you are responsible
enough to own up to your mistakes, are
willing to correct them and learn from
them. If you are a manager, this means
taking the blame yourself, and not
letting your team members take the
responsibility.
Stand Up for Your Beliefs -
This is about standing up for what you believe
is the right way of doing things, even if
everyone else is doing something different.
Have Your Own Identity -
Come to understand who
you are, what you are
capable of becoming,
what you want out of life
and where you want to
go. Ensure that these are
not merely reflections of
what others expect or
want. Once you know
this, align your values to
this path and steer
straight in all that you
do.
four Simple Ways to Convey Integrity at Work:
1.Answer the phone:
When people who have a legitimate
reason for calling you are
consistently diverted to voicemail,
what message are you sending
them? That you’re busier than they
are? That their business isn’t
important to you? Or do they simply
see you as evasive? Similar
comments could apply when you
don’t respond to voicemail or email.
2.When you promise something to someone, keep them
informed:
Everyone knows it isn’t always possible to
keep a promise, but the expectation is that
you will at least try. By letting people know
what’s happening you reinforce the fact that
you are making an honest attempt to deliver
and even if you fail, they will respect you for
trying. On the other hand, if they don’t hear
from you they will be more inclined to believe
that you did nothing and weren’t sincere to
begin with.
3.If you have no intention of taking a discussion further with
someone, say so:
This could be a vendor wanting to sell
something to your organization, a potential
joint venture partner pitching a new idea,
or anyone at all. Don’t lead them on under
the guise of being polite or ‘nice’ and then
stop taking their calls. Show some moral
fibre and say no as soon as you decide not
to proceed. People would rather hear that
you aren’t interested early on so that they
don’t waste their time flogging a dead
horse.
4.When you make an appointment, keep it:
This may sound trite, but how many times have
you been jerked around by someone calling or
texting you at the last minute to postpone a
meeting or a conference call or a simple lunch
date? Obviously, there will always be occasions
when some unforeseen circumstance prevents
you from honouring an appointment, but don’t be
one of those people who makes a habit of it. Apart
from signalling to others that you value their time
less than your own, it sends a message that you
break commitments easily – and that puts a
question mark, no matter how small, against your
reputation for being a person of your word.
A transparent workplace emphasizes communication and
honesty.
PROFESSIONAL MATURITY HELPS IN THE WORKPLACE:
Professional maturity is the ability to respect other
people’s diversified cultural backgrounds and unique set
of experience In the workplace .judgment should be
based on mutual consensus supported with facts ,rather
than emotional and instincts .it is also ability to control
anger and settle differences without violence are
destruction .a mature can face unpleasantness
,frustration, discomfort and defeats without collapsing or
complaining ,as it is a fact that one cannot have
everything his own way all the time.
“Honesty is the best policy”
“Your reputation is more important than your paycheck, and your
integrity is worth more than your career”
Leadership cannot replace management ;it should be in additional to
management.

  • 19. four Simple Ways to Convey Integrity at Work: 1.Answer the phone: When people who have a legitimate reason for calling you are consistently diverted to voicemail, what message are you sending them? That you’re busier than they are? That their business isn’t important to you? Or do they simply see you as evasive? Similar comments could apply when you don’t respond to voicemail or email.
  • 20. 2.When you promise something to someone, keep them informed: Everyone knows it isn’t always possible to keep a promise, but the expectation is that you will at least try. By letting people know what’s happening you reinforce the fact that you are making an honest attempt to deliver and even if you fail, they will respect you for trying. On the other hand, if they don’t hear from you they will be more inclined to believe that you did nothing and weren’t sincere to begin with.
  • 21. 3.If you have no intention of taking a discussion further with someone, say so: This could be a vendor wanting to sell something to your organization, a potential joint venture partner pitching a new idea, or anyone at all. Don’t lead them on under the guise of being polite or ‘nice’ and then stop taking their calls. Show some moral fibre and say no as soon as you decide not to proceed. People would rather hear that you aren’t interested early on so that they don’t waste their time flogging a dead horse.
  • 22. 4.When you make an appointment, keep it: This may sound trite, but how many times have you been jerked around by someone calling or texting you at the last minute to postpone a meeting or a conference call or a simple lunch date? Obviously, there will always be occasions when some unforeseen circumstance prevents you from honouring an appointment, but don’t be one of those people who makes a habit of it. Apart from signalling to others that you value their time less than your own, it sends a message that you break commitments easily – and that puts a question mark, no matter how small, against your reputation for being a person of your word.
