1. To compare the effects of phonophoresis and
shockwave therapy on pain and grip strength among
lateral epicondylitis patients
Done by,
Vishnu Vardhan S
MPT orthopaedics I year I sem
SRM College of physiotherapy
2. AIM OF THE STUDY:
To compare the effects yield by phonophoresis and shockwave therapy on pain
and grip strength among lateral epicondylitis patients.
NEED OF THE STUDY:
Various studies were done on lateral epicondylitis physiotherapy treatment like
shockwave therapy, laser therapy, ultrasound therapy, phonophoresis, manual
therapy and even comparing any of these studies but there is lack of comparing
phonophoresis and shockwave therapy.
3. HYPOTHESIS:
. NULL HYPOTHESIS:
There is no significant effects of phonophoresis and shockwave therapy
on pain and grip strength among lateral epicondylitis patients
. ALTERNATE HYPOTHESIS
H1 - there is a significant effects of phonophoresis on pain and grip
strength among lateral epicondylitis patients
H2 - there is a significant effects of shockwave therapy on pain and grip
strength among lateral epicondylitis patients
4. LITERATURE REVIEW
1. Bestami yalvac, nilguin mesic et,al. (2018) concludes the study saying
shockwave therapy and ultrasound therapy are equally effective in treating
lateral epicondylitis patients.
2. Ferdi baskurt, Ayse ozcan et,al. (2003) concluded the study stating
phonophoresis is the effective electrotherapy methods in treating lateral
epicondylitis.
5. PICO MODEL AND FINER OF THIS STUDY
P - Patients with lateral
epicondylitis
I - phonophoresis and shockwave
therapy
C - standard treatment I.e
ultrasound therapy
O - Pain- VAS Scale, grip strength.
F - affordable, effective in terms of
time and techniques.
I - it is very interesting to me as the
investigator and to my peer group.
N - provides new findings as no study
as done compare these two
treatments
E - accepted and proven techniques is
used
R- complies with clinical evidence and
relevant my study groups
6. Literature review - 1 PICO , FINER MODEL
P - Lateral epicondylitis patients (50)
I - shockwave therapy
C - ultrasound therapy
O - VAS, DASH, Patient rated elbow
evaluation and short form - 36 health
survey questionnaire
F- adequate samples and technique
are employed that is affordable too.
I - interesting to investigators and
readers
N - confirms that shockwave therapy
is effective while comparing
ultrasound therapy
E - ethical proven to IRB
R - provides scientifically proven
knowledge on shockwave therapy on
lateral epicondylitis
7. LITERATURE REVIEW-2 PICO, FINER MODEL
P - lateral epicondylitis patients(61)
I - phonophoresis
C - iontophoresis
O - VAS, grip strength, Niresch -
Petersone grading system
F - adequate sample and techniques
are used in affordable price.
I - interesting to investigators and
readers.
N - new findings using iontophoresis
and phonophoresis in lateral
epicondylitis
E - approved by IRB
R - relevant to the conditions and
provides scientifically proven results
as both treatment are effective.
