Problem of growing demand for liquid
fuels
• The project is aimed at saving fuel in transport.
• Reduction of 5% is achieved by using new materials for the drive of drive wheels of
motorcycles with chain drive and all-wheel drive vehicles, for which the devices driving
the drive wheels through the cables made of high-strength materials such as "kevlar",
have been developed and licensed.
• First of all, the consumer operating the transport may be interested in reducing the fuel
consumption.
• At the same time this is a national and a worldwide major problem.
• Currently the wheels drives are made of steel.
• Aramid fibers such as "kevlar" used in the cable drives are five times stronger than
conventional steel and four and a half times lighter.
• Up till now, the drive torque has not been transmitted by cables.
• By 2016 the US authorities demand reducing fuel consumption of the new cars being
sold in the country by 40% to 6.8 liters per 100 km.
• The costs for upgrading of one car will make 4333 USD.
• Cable drive allows you to save 5% of fuel without increasing the costs.
• Now reducing of fuel consumption is mainly achieved due to the reduction of the
vehicle weight. The use of hybrid engines reduces the cost of consumption in transport,
but doubly increases fuel consumption in thermal plants generating electricity to
recharge the batteries.

Market
• The project works in the old mature market. There is
an annual global market potential of 20 million of new
vehicles, 50 million of new motorcycles. Upgrading of
already-produced equipment is also possible.
• Activities in several areas have been planned.
• Sale of licenses for car and motorcycle manufacturers.
• Engineering of customized cable drives.
• Organizing of manufacturing of cable drives by orders
of car and motorcycle manufacturers.
• Production of transport vehicles with cable drives of
the driven wheels.
Costs returning and profit making
There is a common practice of paying up to 10% of innovations. The amount of license fees of the car
manufacturer will be 21 USD per vehicle and 4 USD per motorcycle.

All the world market of cars and motorcycles. The maximum payment will be of 600 million USD per
year. In Russia there is a need of about one million crossovers per year, and the payments will be
21 million USD per year.
2. Customized engineering of cable drives.
car and motorcycle manufacturers with large output of the machinery may design the cable drives
individually. Therefore engineering of cable drives may be of interest for small enterprises.
3. Organization of manufacturing of cable drives by orders of car and motorcycle manufacturers
Mass production of cable drives for manufacturers of transport equipment may be a very profitable

A small enterprise may produce motorcycles, ATVs and buggies in series.

Competitive advantages

company with free capacities.

to be purchased, manufacturing areas are to be leased.
• As a result, there will be sets of cable drives for specific
models. At the second stage ATVs with cable drives are to
be produced.
• Wholesale is planned through specialized stores and
through dealers, as the dealer network will be established.

• The company is going to sell licenses for cable
drives in the countries of patent nationalization:
Russia, Germany, and the USA.
• Wholesale of cable drives and at the second stage
production and maintenance service of the ATVs
produced are foreseen.
• The price will be determined by the market. The
Russian components will be used for reasonable
pricing.
Marketing and sales
• After testing and certification of prototype models, the licenses for
manufacturing of cable drives will be offered for the manufacturers of cars
and motorcycles in Russia, Germany and the USA. In Russia the supplier of
national four-wheel drive cars is UAZ, manufacturers of motorcycles and
ATVs on the basis of Chinese components: the Russian motors,
manufacturing plant named after Degtiarev, Velomotors.
• In the old matured market the techniques of client searching are
traditional.
• At the first stage the customer retention is traditionally made by an
attractive price.
• The first year implies the development and testing of prototype models.
• The second year implies the modification of prototype models, production
of 25 pcs. of prototype models of each car and motorcycle , certification
thereof.
• Commercial manufacturing of cable drives shall be started by the third
year of the enterprise activity.

• The drive of driven wheels of locomotives
through the coupling rod has been used for
three hundred years.

Risks and possibilities of cable drive
• There is no working prototype, it is in the process of modification
after the pre-testing.
• The interaction with manufacturers is strongly complicated due to
non-Russian origin of parent companies producing cars here and
supplying the motorcycle components. UAZ factory has been
modifying meanwhile the classic seventy-year old design.
• The main risks are psychological, nobody produces such drives.
• The project advantages include the simplicity of the project. There
are only three components: eccentrics, cables, bearings.
• To implement the project we do not need to purchase any foreign
equipment, everything exists here and now.
Moving to mass production
• To set up the project it is required:
• To produce the automobile prototype and modify the motorcycle prototype. At
the first stage to produce the prototypes 2 millions of RUB are required.
• Development of pre-production models and certification will take 68 thousand
USD.
• When developing prototypes and test models, it will be required to place orders at
the enterprise engaged in metalwork cutting and heat treatment (preferably of
automotive industry, but not necessarily) and at the enterprise producing belts or
tires, to manufacture the protected cables with pre-tension in vulcanization
process.
• To gain not only import substitution but also the production of transport
equipment for export, manufacturing of four-wheel drive vehicles – amphibians
shall be arranged. Using the cable drives on such a car will simplify its design and
reduce its weight. Nowadays, nor here, nor abroad there are any all-wheel drive
amphibians. Such equipment will be of demand in Russia and abroad for hunters,
fishermen, in forestry and water management, in development of tundra and in
the army.
Technical aspect of cable drive
Eccentric
With eccentricity of 40 mm the eccentric external diameter is 120 – 150 mm, with the
half-axle diameter of 30 mm. The bearing external diameter is 150 mm. With the cable
groove, the external diameter will be 170 mm. Weight of the eccentric in assembly
with the bearing and groove will be 2.5 kg. Six assembled eccentrics will weight 15 kg.
Cable
The cable will weight 0.3 kg. The cable requires protection from solar radiation, oils
and water. For this purpose it shall be coated with petrol-and-oil-resistant rubber. It
shall be preliminary stretched with force of 0.7 of tear force, because when operating
it shall not stretch more than 1 %. Such task is to be resolved by the manufacturers of
tires and belts.
Bearing
Ultra-light bearing is required.

Second axle gearbox without differential gears - 12х2=24 kg
Connection shaft - 14 kg
Total weight - 38 kg.

  1. The project is aimed to replace the devices currently in use on four-wheel drive vehicles, as well as on motorcycles with chain drive for driving the rear wheels, which allows improving the fuel efficiency by 5%. It works in the old mature market.
  2. There is a cable drive to the left, and to the right there is a traditional drive for the second axle from the transmission of the vehicle with the transversally mounted powertrain. The diameters of the driven gears of main gears are the same. The use of the cable drive will reduce the weight of the second axle drive block by 30 - 50 kg.
  3. The figure on the left shows the cable drive which is a device for transmitting of the torque from the three driving eccentric axes located at 120 degrees to three driven eccentrics connected with three cables made of kevlar. At the top to the right there is a version of the torque transmitting to the second driving axle in a four-wheel drive vehicle with the transversally mounted powertrain. At the bottom to the right there the use of the cable drive instead of a chain on the motorcycle is shown.
