the field visit possible. Mr. Birendra Gautam, the Program Officer has
my respect for providing the information of Koshi Tappu Wildlife
Reserve along with its history. Mr. Sabin Adhikari who guided us
throughout the different parts of the reserve visited within our stay is
fully appreciated. Mr. Kailash Kharel and Miss Samikshya Pokharel, a
lecture and lab assistant at Mechi Multiple Campus are two other
personnel I am heartly grateful of for their assistance.

INTRODUCTION
Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve(KTWR), a 175 km² land covered area for
wildlife conservation is a place for field visit of this survey report. A
major wetland of the country is the only reserve housing endangered
Wild Water Buffalo. KTWR is home to 31 mammals, 485 birds, 200
fishes, 514 species of plant and vegetation. Common names include
Dolphin, Hoopoe, Marsh Mugger, Rock Python and Fishing Cat. Spread
across three different districts Sunsari, Saptari and Udaypur,wildlife
reserve report contains most about reserve’s part from the initial
district east of Koshi river.
SURVEY TEAM
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
Real life experience and exploration of wild life along with plant and
vegetation is must. It fills the gap between nature and wildlife with us
humans, contribution towards the fellow species and nature also
comes after the detailed knowledge gained through being close to it.
The main aims and objectives are listed below.
 Observe and learn about wetland.
 To know the habitat and behavior of Wild Water Buffalo.
 Learn about various species about birds.
 Be familiar with River Dolphin.
 Studying daily activities of Elephants.
FIELD WORK
Day 1
A team of 18 people including 16 students, two teachers after the arrival at
destination went to meet the conservation officer who provided two guides.
The guides led us to museum of KTWR at first where the map of reserve
including the sample of the body parts of the species was kept. The general
information about the species was gained from the visit of museum.
The guides led us inside the perimeter of KTWR. Different species of birds
were allocated through the naked eyes and binocular whose GPS was tracked
while noting down the data.
