My Dissertation was arguing Novel Markers for Early Detection of Hepatocellular
Carcinoma.

Clinical Pathology Specialist and head of Pathology Department:
I orchestrated a multi-disciplinary team. The lab wan run on an 8 hours shift basis,
24 hours a day, 7 days a week We performed approximately 5000-8000 tests
monthly.
Since I started, I initiated the laboratory automation and expansion from small sized
laboratory to medium sized one.
Being in charge of the lab, I introduced and validated the following tests and
methods:
Cobas e411 ( Roch ) for Endocrinology tumor and cardiac markers as well as other
infectious immunoassays such as HIV, Hepatitis antigens and other viruses.

Access 2 (Abbott) for hormonal assay, Vitamin D, Vitamin B12 and viruses.
Cobas 111 for chemistry, turbidimetry and Hb A1c. Biosystem (A 25 ) for
chemistry and serology as a buck up.
Minividas ( Biomerieux) was buck up for hormonal assay. I stat (Abbott) for
Sodium, Potassium and ionized Calcium.
Sysmex S 500 I 5 differential, 23 parameters for automated blood count. Beckman
Coulter Dx H 500 as a pack up for CBC.
• Work with hospital administration on planning, organizing and directing
laboratory operations and ensuring compliance with all local, state and federal
regulations.
• Make daily rounds in Laboratory to judge effectiveness of operation, utilization of
personnel and supplies, and general ethical and professional atmosphere.
• Secure and maintain the physical facilities, equipment and supplies which are
required to carry out effective patient care and create an optimum physical
environment.
• Initiate and actuate improved methods of services and direct their
implementation.
• Prepare department budgets for personnel, operating expenses and capital
equipment.
• Responsible for the fiscal operation of the department.
• Communicate appropriately and clearly to physicians, staff and administration.
• Interact professionally with patient/family.
• Consult other departments, as appropriate, to collaborate in patient care and
performance improvement activities.
• Establish and maintain standards of performance and ensures competency and
appropriate licensure of personnel.
• Direct and participate in the human resource management function for the
department by coordinating the selection, promotion, orientation and performance
appraisal processes.
• Coordinate the department’s in-service training.
• Communicate administrative directive to department personnel
• Promote effective intradepartmental relationships.
• Initiate, interpret and enforce Laboratory Services procedures and maintain and
interpret hospital policies and procedures.
• Cooperate in planning programs and safety and preparedness for fire and disaster.
• Attend and participates in hospital committees, as appropriate.
• Responsible for the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of performance
improvement and activities.

Analyze body fluids, such as blood, urine, and record normal or abnormal findings.
Study blood samples for use in transfusions by identifying the number of cells, the
cell morphology or the blood group, blood type, and compatibility with other blood
types.
Operate sophisticated laboratory equipment, such as microscopes and cell counters
Use automated equipment and computerized instruments capable of performing a
number of tests at the same time.
