Two talks will be hosted by Sabsay Gallery during Copenhagen Art Week 2019 to discuss the ability of artists and museums to influence the world. The first talk on May 24th will feature the directors of AROS and Sabsay Gallery along with artist Thierry Geoffroy. The second talk on May 27th will include the Director of Statens Museum for Kunst along with Thierry Geoffroy. Sabsay Gallery hopes these talks will stimulate dialogue about how art can encourage social development locally and globally.
1. “THE STATE OF TOO LATE. ARE ARTISTS AND MUSEUMS
CAPABLE OF CHANGING THE WORLD TODAY?”
On both occasions Sabsay takes the initiative to ignite thoughts
and to present perspectives about the abilities which artists and
museums possess to influence the world.
Two informative talks will be hosted by Sabsay during this year’s
Copenhagen Art Week. Part one will be held on the 24th of May
from 16:15 until 17:45. The panel of this talk will consist of Erlend
Høyersten, Thierry Geoffroy and Masha Faurschou. Combining
the expertise of the directors of AROS and Sabsay Gallery with
the inspirational and gifted artist, Thierry Geoffroy, this talk seeks
to address the capabilities and role which art can play within the
global environment.
Part two of this talk will take place on the 27th of May from 16:00
until 17:30. Director of Statens Museum for Kunst, Mikkel Bogh,
will join this discourse along with Thierry Geoffroy and Masha
Faurschou. Sabsay Gallery believes that these talks can induce
an informative and interesting dialogue which will increase the
awareness amongst the public to which degree art can encourage
daily life in a local and universal social context.
These events will be hosted at Sabsay Gallery on Store
Strandstræde 19. The public is invited to join the warm and
welcoming atmosphere, open for reflective and engaging
perspectives.

Art historian and museum director from Norway. He concluded his studies with honors in Art History at the
University of Bergen. At the age of 31 Høyersten became the museum director of Sørlandets Kunstmuseum. Five
years later, he was appointed as the director of Bergen Kunstmuseum (later renamed as KODE). During his stint
at Bergen Kunstmuseum, Høyersten curated the highly acclaimed exhibition ‘Real Life Stories’, with prominent
Chinese artists such as Ai Weiwei, Xiang Jing, Song Dong.
After four years in Bergen, Høyersten was chosen to be the museum director of ArOS. Having deployed this

COPENHAGEN ART WEEK 2019
MIKKEL BOGH
Art historian, art critic and museum director. Bogh completed his studies with mag. art. honors in art history at
Københavns Universitet. After concluding his studies, he became a lecturer at the university from 1995 to 2003.
In 2005, he became the Headmaster at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. Bogh has
written numerous articles and books about art theory and European and American art from the 17th century
until today. Mikkel Bogh has deployed the role as Director of Statens Museum for Kunst since 2014.
His experience as an art historian researcher was one of many convincing qualities that led Bogh to receive
the privilege of being in charge of the collection at SMK. A noteworthy ability is that Bogh uses his influence
to voice concerns regarding the important matters related to art and culture. In 2018, when the Danish
government stated they wanted to reduce their budget by eliminating investments in art and culture, Bogh
expressed his fears, claiming that an exceptionally rich country like Denmark should devote their proceeds
to create an engaging art and culture scene where everyone can benefit by increasing their knowledge and
interact with their curiosity.

private art collections in the US and Eastern Europe. In 2013, Faurschou co-founded Artsvit Contemporary

providing comprehensive education programs on international contemporary art for children and adults. In
2016 she founded SABSAY Gallery in Copenhagen as a space for innovative arts and upcoming international
artists, enriching the Danish art scene with new names and practices as well as encouraging joint projects
between internatil and local artists and curators. The same year, Masha Faurschou co-founded Khora
