3. WHAT IS CNC LASER CUTTING
TECHNOLOGY?
• CNC stands for Computer Numerical Control.
• This device uses laser for cutting purpose.
4. WHAT IS LASER CUTTING?
• Laser cutting uses a Resonator to create a beam of light.
• The light is transmitted to a series of mirrors to the cutting head.
• It then goes to a lens that focuses the laser beam through a diameter
of roughly .015”.
• This is what is used to cut the material of choice.
5. WHAT TYPE OF MATERIAL?
• Generally laser cutting is best for thin materials. This includes carbon
steel, stainless steel, thin aluminium.
• We can cut upto 1” thick…
Aluminium upto 1/8”
Carbon steel upto 1”
Stainless steel upto 5/8”
6. WHY USE LASER CUTTING? /
ADVANTAGES
High accuracy
Excellent cut quality
High processing speed
Small kerf/laser hole
Cuts many types of materials
Oxide layer is very thin and can easily removed by light torch cutting
Very low application of heat therefore less shrinkage of material
It is possible to cut complex shapes, small holes, etc easily.
7. GENERAL APPLICATIONS
• Laser cutter is mostly seen in industries that demand lot of thin metal
part.
• This includes:
Automotive
Architectural
Retail Display
Art and Structural
Medical
