Bar length
The total ranking of a product, represented by the bar length, is based on a weighted aggregate score. The score is calculated as follows:
The product with the highest count in each area gets the highest available score. (18 points for Reviews, Words/Review, Views and
Comparisons.) Every other product gets assigned points based on its total in proportion to the #1 product in that area.
For example, if a product has 80% of the number of reviews compared to the product with the most reviews then the product's points for reviews
would be 18 (weighting factor) * 80% = 14.4. For Average Rating, the maximum score is 28 points awarded linearly between 6-10 (e.g. 6 or
below=0 points; 7.5=10.5 points; 9.0=21 points; 10=28 points).
If a product has fewer than ten reviews, the point contribution for Average Rating and Words/Review is reduced: 1/3 reduction in points for
products with 5-9 reviews, two-thirds reduction for products with fewer than five reviews.
Reviews that are more than 24 months old, as well as those written by resellers, are completely excluded from the ranking algorithm.

This is going to be an interesting answer, but the most valuable feature of the software is not the software itself, but the community
that supports it. When I first started learning the software to support a program, I had to self-teach; there wasn't a budget for
training. But going through their learning platform and then connecting with the community when I didn't understand how to utilize
some of the functionality, that was far more powerful than the product itself. The network around the product is amazing. The great
thing about the UiPath RPA ... [Full Review]

The most valuable features are the unattended bots. Initially, we are going to be looking at a number of attended bots in a pilot
phase for our HR internal operations personnel. We are going to come in and try to remove tasks from their daily lives, such as ten
minute tasks brought down to five seconds, or we could just completely eliminate them, making them unattended. The training and
certification online is very helpful. The software is easy to use, as a drag and drop function. Even if it wasn't, the type of support that
we get from the people wh... [Full Review]

The ability to integrate between legacy systems is the most valuable feature. We use it mainly to replicate manual processes, where
you just have to pull out data or pull down large volumes of customer information, in general. We work across many individual
customers, who are individual entities or individual databases in our ERP system. We work across about 220 databases. Therefore,
the task of logging onto different databases alone is quite cumbersome. The main thing is to make data available to the employees
when they start working mornings, inst... [Full Review]

The number-one valuable feature is the ease of use. I come from a development background where I wrote a lot of code. The fact
that you have these activities with pre-built functionality is great. You can drag them in and use them as shortcuts to get to an end
result faster than if you had to do it in a programming language. UiPath exceeded my expectations in this area. Also, the training
that's available through the UiPath RPA Academy, as well as the community - the forums, where you can ask questions - both are
helpful. The community is a good way... [Full Review]

By utilizing this technology, you're able to get value through your value streams quicker. When you realize value, that means you
can work with your customers more quickly, as well as build customer loyalty and employer loyalty. These have definitely been
some of the byproducts of using the software. When I was working as an RPA manager, managing a program for an insurance
company which supported insurance lifecycle processing, one of the components was that they had to review insurance policies
annually. It was very cumbersome. We were talking anyw... [Full Review]

A lot of times, in the government, people say, "I'm wearing two hats." It's an idiom. The question I have in response is, "What if we
could take one of those hats away?" We can take one of those responsibilities that someone finds cumbersome, or annoying, and
remove that from their task list. We have them tell us the steps of their process, so we can automate it, if not pieces, but all of it. That
is our starting point with a lot of people, "We can take this off your plate," which is definitely exciting for a lot of people. It scares
some people too... [Full Review]

We are able to smooth out peak workloads. Because a lot of the period closures, like monthly and yearly closures, we work in
peaks. Everything has to be done within a few days. When we can prepare a lot of the data and reports through the night, the
employees can start on those in the morning. Therefore, we are leveling out some of the workload features, which is one of the
main benefits. Automation technology for us is mainly a way to get around the long-term IT projects. This is the future for us, when
using UiPath, to start moving into the AI par... [Full Review]

Being a person who has held every RPA role from developer to analyst, architect, and executive, one feature I think it needs - from a
documentation perspective - is the ability to easily extract variable details and data. They do have a Variables panel that you
frequently interact with, but I constantly have situations where those need to be adjusted or I want to be able to present those to a
business. Sometimes it's difficult to extract those, and if you're not tracking them while you build, you can quickly get into 200 to
300 variables in use, esp... [Full Review]

The Academy Live that I took was only a half a day course. There needs to be diverse set of courses for those introduced to RPA for
the first time. There are different people who show up to this course: * The developer who is interested in automation and
automating different facets of the tasks that they have, either at work or for their clients. * Business managers who want to know
more about what RPA can do for my business or company. They want the operational and strategic level versus the tactical level of
how do I get automation to do the thing... [Full Review]

We have looked at it with Citrix, and there are problems with it. Some of the new features coming will address it. We have been
looking at Attended Robots, which result in the inability to lock your screen. That is simply a no-go for ever using them in most
government agencies, as IT security will prohibit us from using them. If UiPath wants Attended Robots to be used inside a
government agency, it needs to be applicable on a virtual desktop. A lot of what is coming is what we are looking towards: Both on

activity suite available, I'm excited to use that. I haven't gotten to get my hands on it yet. But in terms of additional features, I can't

For pricing there is a variable at play, and that's scale. Depending on how you want to scale - whether working with a partner or
directly with UiPath - there's a specific cost per license. But then it's all about optimizing a process, and what we call "license
utilization." We try to maximize each license, and we'll have it running three or four processes. The cost is nothing, it's peanuts,
when you see the capabilities. When you're talking about one license supporting what was previously done by 14 people, what is
$1,500, or whatever the licensing... [Full Review]

Getting licenses has been relatively easy. We have all the prices for the software. Every project is up for a negotiation on how it's
going to be done. A lot of times, with the federal government, it will be necessary to put it on contract. When we are bidding for
something, we need to know, how many bots are we talking about? The tricky part is when the government is unsure what they
actually want. A lot of times when contracts or proposals are put on the street, the government wants something that can support
100 bots. That's not really helpful gi... [Full Review]

Its integration with source control is very refreshing. There could be a little bit more maturity around how to do some of the features,
but not having to go outside the app, not having a separate set of procedures, allows you to check in and check out right from
within the app. You can make edits and uploads and undo your checkouts. That integration is very nice. It really does have a great
dashboard. It has Bot Insight, it has meta bots, and IQ Bots. It has so many features where it can read a file and loop. [Full Review]

One of the features that we have used the most is an action in the Workbench called Object Cloning. We find that very reliable and
very useful for implementing different business processes. In general, the security and role-based access control - credentials
security - are also important. We have a high focus on security in the bank. It's obviously a very highly regulated environment, so
security is a top priority for us. To be allowed to automate different processes, we need to have a good set of controls around who

You don't have to really code anything, so it gives you a good interface, because the components are already preconfigured to

E.g., if you want to interact with the mailbox solution, you can have the RPA fetch attachments or email body from the mail solution.

What I like about Automation Anywhere is the object cloning and the way you can move the mouse and either go to a particular

There was a large number of individuals who were doing the data collection and artifacts collection, and they were actually a third-

information, there are additional complications of privacy concerns. If we can keep that in-house and have a bot or automated code

Through the software, we have been able to reduce the time that we spend on manual, repetitive tasks, so that we can focus on

We see the application applied in the BPO space, or even in health care, in terms of claim processing. E.g., if you're doing invoice

Regarding the integration with source control, when there's a large number of operations the bulk operations need a little bit more

The main things I've found that could be better are small things that can be annoying when you're using them a lot. I would
recommend they add a feature where, if you mark the start of an "If" sentence it will highlight the end of the "If" sentence. That
would make it easier to get a better overview. The small things are the most important in our day-to-day work with their software.

When you are making a code, and there is a happy path and exception management mechanism, it would be nice if there was
feedback in terms of whether this is the most appropriate way to hold this. I'm not sure how this can be done, but that could be very
insightful. It already gives you some screen tips, but this could be done in a better fashion, in case you are creating the workflow

Automation Anywhere is troublesome for some people because of the way it is organized. It's organized as an encrypted script,
which gets run via a domain-specific language which the user sees. There's a loss of overhead on the computing resources in
Automation Anywhere. If you have an encrypted bot, the Automation Anywhere software has to read it first, decrypt it, and run it. So
there is a potential that, if the logic of the bot isn't good enough, a lot of CPU and memory overload will happen. This is something

Automation Anywhere's pricing is competitive. That's obviously something that attracted our company to it. They're very well priced.
I can't speak to let's say UiPath or Blue Prism. I do know Pega vs Automation Anywhere is somewhat comparable, but Pega also
requires a lot more infrastructure and a lot more experience to get up and running. There's a bigger upfront cost to get Pega and

We just did a round of price comparison on a global scale and found it's so hard to compare the license prices. But, Automation

I use Blue Prism for my customers. I really don't use Blue Prism in my own company or for my own automation. I do automation for
my clients. If you look at the banking sector, there is a lot of regulatory compliance to be adhered to, and that's where Blue Prism
has helped me a lot. Because of automatic compliance checking and auditing, Blue Prism actually gives my clients a lot of benefits,
i.e. as an auditor which can check up to 100 transactions a day. I can now basically sit back and look at over 100 transactions being

It helps us reduce the number of people involved in mundane tasks. In the case of Absa, it has really impacted them, the way the

Since Blue Prism gives me a lot of flexibility, I don't want the vendor to make any changes out of the box. I believe that there could

Blue Prism is lagging in terms of artificial intelligence. There is no artificial intelligence in version 4 or 5, which most people are still

I would like to see wider integration with other products. That way, while we work on other core systems like SAP or Salesforce,
there are ready-made connectors that can get the data. It would make it easier for people to work with Blue Prism. The next release

We really don't bear the costs. The cost is borne by the customer. It runs into about $100,000 per year per customer for Blue Prism.
We need to add the hardware costs to set up the servers for the SQL server, and then we need to budget for about a week to set
up the entire infrastructure. We need to add the cost of the people who will be working during this week. There are other costs, but
it is the same for any tool. We normally budget around $30,000 for the first year for the hardware, setup, and people cost. [Full

This product is quite easy to install, learn, and use, with our new employees being able to start using it in projects for clients after
only two weeks of internal training. Compared to other products, the pricing model for this solution is much more convenient,
flexible, and adaptable to the Portuguese reality. Key automation features: email, FTP/SFTP, OCR, ODBC, terminal emulation. Main
benefits: Full Client-Server Architecture, Multi-Machine Execution, Centralized Management Interface, Graphical Workflows, Intuitive
Task Development & Debugging. [Full Review]

It's difficult to say which feature is the most valuable as there are so many, each a must-have for any automation system. A great
feature that you seldom see in these kind of systems is the ability to use a database as trigger to launch a task. This is something I
asked for a few years ago and that was added. [Full Review]

While this solution is continually improving, as it is now, the user interface could use improvement when I compare it to a product
like UiPath. Specifically, the Automate Enterprise interface needs improvement. When you are promoting packages within the
environment, it is easy to extract an import, but it would be better to have it all in the same console. As it is now, you have to extract
the package separately. The environments should be able to communicate; you push the button, click on deploy, and it goes
straight to the production environment.... [Full Review]

I would like to see some better web automation, a wizard like the one in the product WinAutomation would be very nice. Showing
the global variables of a workflow in a task when you select it, which variable some result should be stored in. Now, you can't see
the global variables but have to type them, which works but isn't ideal. [Full Review]

How should I calculate ROI for RPA? How should I measure RPA success?
Many members of our community are looking to understand how to calculate the ROI of an RPA deployment. Is it
based on cost reduction, revenue impact, compliance, experience enhancement for employees and/or
customers, or something else?
What's the best way to measure the success of RPA?
Scott
Francis
I'd advise a different approach, outlined in this blog post: "How to turn ROI into ROMG with RPA" - https://www.bp-3.com/blog/roi-into-
romg-with-rpa/ 1. Look for areas of friction in collecting, receiving, or recognizing revenue! 2. Look for areas where your clients
experience friction working with you! 3. Combine RPA with process, decisioning, and AI to fully capture value opportunities to generate
that OMG reaction.

ROI calculation based on the below parameters: 1. The total budget for development and implementation of RPA 2. Percentage of
automation of the process 3. Expected effort savings based on point 2 4. Actual effort savings post implementation These are very
standard parameters to come up with ROI but there are other factors that depend on actual process and environment which help to
come up with actual ROI.

I had the opportunity to speak at an RPA vendor event and this is what I said: Each RPA processes may have these quantitative effects:
- Reduction of manhours (obvious!) - Reduction of Total Throughput Time - Increase of frequency - Increase in volume - Avoidance of
license cost (if legally possible) - Reduction of outsourcing/transfer to insourcing And also these qualitative (or maybe quantifiable but
costly to measure) effects: - Customer satisfaction - Data quality - Reduction of human errors - Reduction of off-office hour task -
Service quality - Trigger for Business Process Re-engineering (BPR) Furthermore, once you have a substantial number of processes
automated, as an aggregated effect: - Reduction of overtime work (quantitative) - Transition to more value-added work (qualitative) -
More reduction of outsourcing/transfer to insourcing - More Business Process Re-engineering (BPR)

How do you plan for a security review for RPA?
Is it required in your company to conduct a security review before purchasing robotic process automation
software? What are the common materials you use in the review?
Do you have any tips or advice for the community?
Any pitfalls to watch out for?

See here http://bit.ly/2WCIR53 Recognize the potential security risks associated with the Robotic Process Automation in an
organization. Understand what features are available out of the box from the solution being deployed. For instance, if a solution being
deployed is architecturally security supportive then we can make use of it to its best. Apply best practices while implementing and
deploying an organization-wide RPA solution. The key to avoid security breaches is to first identify various potential security risks
associated with an RPA project. The risks that a company must consider may include one or all of the following: - RPA robots may have
access to the credentials that are normally possessed and used by a human worker. - Robots may have access to company privileged
information. This information can be anything from personal staff data to financial data. -There is also a risk of unauthorized
modification of automation workflows or their...

Various factors contribute towards our assessment of fitment and security of a tool for our development and production environment.
These include the tool features and how the end product is likely to compromise my production environment. We need to ensure that
our production environment is itself not vulnerable, the tool or a technology may just get exploited. We do look for how secure a tool
or technology is before making a decision to use it. You should ask for the vulnerability assessment report and best practices from the
vendor. Then it is generally a good practice to perform a threat modeling with the vendor to ensure all basis are covered.
Sukrutha
Kini
In my view, we should ask the vendor of the tool to do the security review and share the report and certificate. I am sure they do a
periodical review of their tools.

What's the best way to trial RPA software?
We all know it's important to conduct a trial or do a proof of concept as part of the buying process for robotic
process automation.
Do you have any advice for our community about the best way to conduct a trial or PoC?
How would you conduct a trial effectively? Are there any mistakes which should be avoided?
Kal Rabb
A few simple rules - Pick a 'real' process to automate - Make it complex enough (but not too complex) so people don't say "I could write
a macro in excel in a couple of days …" - If integrating with systems, make sure you can get access to them (i.e. IT won't shutdown
access if a 'bot starts using them) - Make sure you are using real data - Keep the project small (you want to see output in 2-4 weeks) -
Make sure the people who would benefit from, or be affected by (the automation) are involved Well, maybe that is more than a 'few'.
But, it's a good question, and when my clients often stumble.
Michelle
Mesina
• Pick the high-volume processes and ideally with multiple interfaces to see the capability of the solution you are testing. • The
complexity of the processes also helps; however, this will also determine the time it takes for the POC to be completed. If you have the
time, choose a complex process that’s repetitive and high volume. You will get most of the benefits here. • Critical items during the
POC creation: o Real data in a test/dev environment o How the automation will be triggered aka trigger point (is it attended or
unattended – what is your priority? what are the advantages and disadvantages) o Be clear on your nonnegotiable o Process map of
the current process with real timing immediately determines the effectiveness of the POC (Bot) o Determine success measures at the
on-set (TAT, Customer experience, potential soft and hard savings) o Clear timelines of the POC...
MBFolger
There is significant work involved before the trial or PoC begins. RPA is not a one-and-done quick fix. It's a company-wide initiative that
requires stakeholder buy-in, clear understanding of objectives and expected returns, expertise to
design/build/monitor/maintain/change workflows as they evolve over time. There are infrastructure considerations. Governance and
steering to ensure you're building for now and the future. Look for these aspects in the processes you want to include in your pilot:
rules-based and repetitive, accesses structured data, is high-volume, is stable, is performed by more than 1 FTE. For each workflow you
select, it's essential to build the business case around it. ROI is different for every process. Labor savings is an obvious one, especially
if you have numerous FTEs dedicated to performing those tasks. We also encourage clients to consider: 1) optimized operational costs
2) Reduced cycle time 3) Increased quality of work (eliminate rework, errors, variance) 4)...

  • 5. Robotic Process Automation (RPA) Top Robotic Process Automation (RPA) Solutions Over 365,192 professionals have used IT Central Station research. Here are the top Robotic Process Automation (RPA) vendors based on product reviews, ratings, and comparisons. All reviews and ratings are from real users, validated by our triple authentication process. Chart Key Views Number of views Comparisons Number of times compared to another product Reviews Total number of reviews on IT Central Station Words/Review Average words per review on IT Central Station Average Rating Average rating based on reviews Bar length The total ranking of a product, represented by the bar length, is based on a weighted aggregate score. The score is calculated as follows: The product with the highest count in each area gets the highest available score. (18 points for Reviews, Words/Review, Views and Comparisons.) Every other product gets assigned points based on its total in proportion to the #1 product in that area. For example, if a product has 80% of the number of reviews compared to the product with the most reviews then the product's points for reviews would be 18 (weighting factor) * 80% = 14.4. For Average Rating, the maximum score is 28 points awarded linearly between 6-10 (e.g. 6 or below=0 points; 7.5=10.5 points; 9.0=21 points; 10=28 points). If a product has fewer than ten reviews, the point contribution for Average Rating and Words/Review is reduced: 1/3 reduction in points for products with 5-9 reviews, two-thirds reduction for products with fewer than five reviews. Reviews that are more than 24 months old, as well as those written by resellers, are completely excluded from the ranking algorithm. 1 UiPath 35,694 views 21,949 comparisons 219 reviews 416 Words/Review 9.1 average rating 2 Automation Anywhere (AA) 34,631 views 15,025 comparisons 119 reviews 785 Words/Review 7.9 average rating 3 Blue Prism 16,246 views 10,529 comparisons 12 reviews 729 Words/Review 7.9 average rating 4 Kryon RPA 3,417 views 1,967 comparisons 15 reviews 1,596 Words/Review 8.5 average rating 5 IBM Robotic Process Automation (RPA) 2,247 views 1,212 comparisons 6 reviews 629 Words/Review 8.3 average rating 5 © 2019 IT Central Station To read more reviews about Robotic Process Automation (RPA), please visit: https://www.itcentralstation.com/categories/robotic-process-automation-rpa

When I first started learning the software to support a program, I had to self-teach; there wasn't a budget for training. But going through their learning platform and then connecting with the community when I didn't understand how to utilize some of the functionality, that was far more powerful than the product itself. Initially, we are going to be looking at a number of attended bots in a pilot phase for our HR internal operations personnel. We are going to come in and try to remove tasks from their daily lives, such as ten minute tasks brought down to five seconds, or we could just completely eliminate them, making them unattended. The training and certification online is very helpful. The software is easy to use, as a drag and drop function. Even if it wasn't, the type of support that we get from the people wh... The question I have in response is, "What if we could take one of those hats away?" Many members of our community are looking to understand how to calculate the ROI of an RPA deployment. Is it based on cost reduction, revenue impact, compliance, experience enhancement for employees and/or customers, or something else? What's the best way to measure the success of RPA? Scott Francis I'd advise a different approach, outlined in this blog post: "How to turn ROI into ROMG with RPA" - https://www.bp-3.com/blog/roi-into- romg-with-rpa/ 1. The total budget for development and implementation of RPA 2. Percentage of automation of the process 3. Expected effort savings based on point 2 4. Actual effort savings post implementation These are very standard parameters to come up with ROI but there are other factors that depend on actual process and environment which help to come up with actual ROI. reviewer94 9524 I had the opportunity to speak at an RPA vendor event and this is what I said: Each RPA processes may have these quantitative effects: - Reduction of manhours (obvious!) - Reduction of Total Throughput Time - Increase of frequency - Increase in volume - Avoidance of license cost (if legally possible) - Reduction of outsourcing/transfer to insourcing And also these qualitative (or maybe quantifiable but costly to measure) effects: - Customer satisfaction - Data quality - Reduction of human errors - Reduction of off-office hour task - Service quality - Trigger for Business Process Re-engineering (BPR) Furthermore, once you have a substantial number of processes automated, as an aggregated effect: - Reduction of overtime work (quantitative) - Transition to more value-added work (qualitative) - More reduction of outsourcing/transfer to insourcing - More Business Process Re-engineering (BPR) See all 14 answers >> © 2019 IT Central Station To read more reviews about Robotic Process Automation (RPA), please visit: https://www.itcentralstation.com/categories/robotic-process-automation-rpa 33 © 2019 IT Central Station To read more reviews about Robotic Process Automation (RPA), please visit: https://www.itcentralstation.com/categories/robotic-process-automation-rpa
  • 34. Robotic Process Automation (RPA) Answers from the Community How do you plan for a security review for RPA? Is it required in your company to conduct a security review before purchasing robotic process automation software? What are the common materials you use in the review?  Do you have any tips or advice for the community?  Any pitfalls to watch out for? Birinder Singh See here http://bit.ly/2WCIR53 Recognize the potential security risks associated with the Robotic Process Automation in an organization. Understand what features are available out of the box from the solution being deployed. For instance, if a solution being deployed is architecturally security supportive then we can make use of it to its best. Apply best practices while implementing and deploying an organization-wide RPA solution. The key to avoid security breaches is to first identify various potential security risks associated with an RPA project. The risks that a company must consider may include one or all of the following: - RPA robots may have access to the credentials that are normally possessed and used by a human worker. - Robots may have access to company privileged information. This information can be anything from personal staff data to financial data. -There is also a risk of unauthorized modification of automation workflows or their... Vickram Nehra Various factors contribute towards our assessment of fitment and security of a tool for our development and production environment. These include the tool features and how the end product is likely to compromise my production environment. We need to ensure that our production environment is itself not vulnerable, the tool or a technology may just get exploited. We do look for how secure a tool or technology is before making a decision to use it. You should ask for the vulnerability assessment report and best practices from the vendor. Then it is generally a good practice to perform a threat modeling with the vendor to ensure all basis are covered. Sukrutha Kini In my view, we should ask the vendor of the tool to do the security review and share the report and certificate. I am sure they do a periodical review of their tools. • 35. Robotic Process Automation (RPA) Answers from the Community What's the best way to trial RPA software? We all know it's important to conduct a trial or do a proof of concept as part of the buying process for robotic process automation. Do you have any advice for our community about the best way to conduct a trial or PoC? How would you conduct a trial effectively? Are there any mistakes which should be avoided? Kal Rabb A few simple rules - Pick a 'real' process to automate - Make it complex enough (but not too complex) so people don't say "I could write a macro in excel in a couple of days …" - If integrating with systems, make sure you can get access to them (i.e. IT won't shutdown access if a 'bot starts using them) - Make sure you are using real data - Keep the project small (you want to see output in 2-4 weeks) - Make sure the people who would benefit from, or be affected by (the automation) are involved Well, maybe that is more than a 'few'. But, it's a good question, and when my clients often stumble. Michelle Mesina • Pick the high-volume processes and ideally with multiple interfaces to see the capability of the solution you are testing. • The complexity of the processes also helps; however, this will also determine the time it takes for the POC to be completed. If you have the time, choose a complex process that’s repetitive and high volume. You will get most of the benefits here. • Critical items during the POC creation: o Real data in a test/dev environment o How the automation will be triggered aka trigger point (is it attended or unattended – what is your priority? what are the advantages and disadvantages) o Be clear on your nonnegotiable o Process map of the current process with real timing immediately determines the effectiveness of the POC (Bot) o Determine success measures at the on-set (TAT, Customer experience, potential soft and hard savings) o Clear timelines of the POC... MBFolger There is significant work involved before the trial or PoC begins. RPA is not a one-and-done quick fix. It's a company-wide initiative that requires stakeholder buy-in, clear understanding of objectives and expected returns, expertise to design/build/monitor/maintain/change workflows as they evolve over time. There are infrastructure considerations. Governance and steering to ensure you're building for now and the future. Look for these aspects in the processes you want to include in your pilot: rules-based and repetitive, accesses structured data, is high-volume, is stable, is performed by more than 1 FTE. For each workflow you select, it's essential to build the business case around it. ROI is different for every process. Labor savings is an obvious one, especially if you have numerous FTEs dedicated to performing those tasks. We also encourage clients to consider: 1) optimized operational costs 2) Reduced cycle time 3) Increased quality of work (eliminate rework, errors, variance) 4)...
