The 5th
edition of two day student fest was organized by the UPES-SPE student Chapter. The student Chapter of Society of
Petroleum Engineers has come a long way since its inception in 2010 and in this journey of 6 years it has made some
exemplary accomplishments. It has been ranked amongst the top 7 Student Chapters across the 310 student- SPE Chapters
worldwide and UPES chapter also happens to be the only one from India in this category. It earned the highest honour

-SPE Student Chapter is also the recipient of SPE Gold Standard Award for three successive years in 2011, 2012 and 2013.
The UPES- SPE student chapter registered with the SPE North India Section is a platform on which students pursuing their
engineering studies in petroleum and allied sectors come together to exchange information and share their knowledge and
experience while at the same time competing amongst themselves through various competitions and interface mediums. This
fest also provides an opportunity to the budding engineers to interact with and learn from well-known experts and accomplished
industry professionals. Association with participating professionals also provides to them the industry linkages and contacts
which the students then leverage to further their careers and pursuits. The 5th
edition of UPES SPE Fest this weekend. Don’t
miss the profusion of enthusiasm at this amalgamation of academics and professionalism. Be a part of the inauguration of the
7th
edition of Energy Era this SPE Fest.
Over 200 students pursuing their engineering studies in petroleum and earth sciences stream came together during this two day
event which included participants from PDPU- Gandhinagar, Gujarat; UTM- Shillong, Meghalaya; Aditys College –
Surapalem, Andhra Pradesh; Nuwrosjee Wadia – Pune, Maharashtra; ITM University – Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh; Mohal
College – Hyderabad, Telangana and UPES, DIT , Graphic Era & UIT from Uttarakhand. The fest was inaugurated by Mr
Baljit Singh(Vice President, Jubilant Energy) in presence of Mr. Raj Kanwar (Founder, SK Oil Fields) along with Dr S J
Chopra, Chancellor, Dr Shrihari, Vice Chancellor & Dr Kamal Bansal, Dean of College of Engineering. Sharing the details of
the various competitions which were organized during this fest Mr Arun Dhand , Director- Media Affairs said that most events
were focussed to check the Oil& Gas quotient of the participants which included “Amphora” - A inter college quiz for various
colleges of Uttarakhand; “Barrel Wars” - A three round event requiring the talents of a driller, a geologist and a chemical
engineer, with each round testing different set of skills; “Breaking Bid” - An event related to petrochemicals, where
participants will bid for unit operations and processes to most profitably convert raw material into marketable products
virtually; “Techuminati”- Paper presentation based on oil and gas domain; “Virtuoso”- Poster presentation based on oil and gas
domain; “Noesis”- Quiz event based on oil and gas domain; “Source Code”- Coding event organized for the programmer
hidden in every petroleum engineer; “Symposium”- A group discussion and debating event that will test not only the depth of
participants’ thoughts on the given topic, but also their ability to clearly and concisely convey those thoughts; “Mud
Challenge”- Mud preparation event where the team that prepares mud whose composition and properties are closest to
described parameters takes home the prize but the most awaited and looked forward to was the model display event , wherein
students got a platform to showcase their original models and get realistic feedback from industry professionals on their
creations. Model display also included the projects done on simulation and modelling software like Prosper and CMG.
Innovative projects like Multi well pad drilling were also put on display by the students.
Series of lectures from various oil and gas industry professionals were also held during this two day event where the students
were given deep insights on the field requirements and conditions. The experts also shared what the industry expects from the
new age petroleum engineers. The first position winners of some of the competitions were Simran Vidur of UPES for
Symposium; Latika Ozair Nandita of UPES for Virtweso; Rishika Anish of UPES for Amphora; Sagarika Himani of UPES for
IOGCEE-Software. Prizes were given away by special guests at the Valedictory which included Mr A K Sacchan, Head of DIT,
ONGC and Mr Abhijit Basu, Regional President, ONGC Videsh ltd.
