Implementing the UNESCO
Convention for the Safeguarding of
the Intangible Cultural Heritage at
the National Level was held on
13-17 June in Bucharest, and
benefited from a partnership with
the Regional Center Sofia, Bulgaria;

3. Main objectives of the seminar held in
Bucharest
a better acknowledgement of the 2003 Convention
enforcing the national capacity to implement it
increasing support for cultural politics revision
analyzing successful examples of national and international measures
of safeguarding ICH
promoting active involvement of local communities
discussions on the updating of national inventory.
The event gathered international speakers from the UNESCO experts
network and Romanian specialists from institutions in the field of ICH,
NGO’s and local communities representatives.
5. Cultural Programmes Financed by the Ministry
of Culture and National Identity
ACCES supports cultural activities and
projects from the following domains: visual
arts/ architecture, written culture,
cinematography/ audio-visual, theatre,
intercultural dialogue, intangible heritage/
mobile cultural heritage.

List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity
(two binational files submitted with The Republic
of Moldova)
8. New Inscription on The
Representative List
On December 1st
, 2016, TheTraditional wall-carpet craftsmanship in
Romania and the Republic of Moldova (common file, coordinated by
Romania and submitted together with The Republic of Moldova) was
Inscribed on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage
of Humanity, Decision 11.COM 10.b.26 adopted by The
Intergovernmental UNESCO Committee for the Safeguarding of
Intangible Cultural Heritage gathered in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia (the 28th
of November – the 2nd
of December 2016).
9. An Element under Evaluation
Romania resubmitted the nomination of the multinational file it
coordinates: Cultural Practices Associated to the First of March (No.
01093), together with Bulgaria, The Republic of Macedonia, and the
Republic of Moldova, to the UNESCO Evaluation body. A final
decision is awaited at the Intergovernmental Committee for the
Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage to be held in
December this year, in Jeju Island.

12. Undiscovered Romania
Campaign
The Ministry of Culture agreed to have its name used by an advertising
company in the context of “Live from a Different World” campaign, to
allow the appropriate recognition to the interviewed Human Living
Treasures, to promote them and the crafts they represent:
Dumitru Sofonea – sheepskin coat maker from Dragus Village, Brasov
County;
Floare Finta – keeper of ancient Oas regional traditions, from
Maramures County;
Nicolae Muntean – glass and wood icon painter from Vinerea Village,
Alba County;
Nicolae Pitis – one of the last doina singer (doina is enscribed on The
Representative List ), from Lapus Village, Maramures County.
The Campaign won a Silver Lion at Media Cannes Lions on June the 21st
