8. The nomination of “the Celebration of the Celestine Pardon”
at the RL of the UNESCO 2003 Convention
Social practice, ritual and festive event
During 2009 L’Aquila City was hit by a
severe earthquake that destroyed the
hystoric town; noteworthy, the community
decided not to stop the annual celebration,
thus continuing to transmit the values and
the practice of its intangible cultural
heritage

The entire cycle of the Celestine Pardon expression host the
official representatives from different countries (who takes part into the
cultural and ritual procession), in particular the foreigner twinned cities and
those afflicted by hystorical, natural, social difficulties.
- Adopting a Code of conduct to transmit traditional aspects,
respect of customary and spiritual practices, ensuring the security along
the cultural space of the Procession (20.000 participants)
