First meeting: stage setting
• We will discuss the future of Uptown, with a
specific focus on two adjacent areas:
1. The former Stewart School and parking lot.
2. The land paralleling the Wilson Station.

Stewart School
• 107-year-old Stewart School closed in 2013.
• CPS will be seeking development proposals for
the building and adjacent parking lot.
• A range of uses
is possible.

Wilson Station Sites
• CTA plans to invest $200 million in the
renovation of the Wilson Station, and will add a
Purple Line stop there.
• As part of the renovations, land will be freed up
east and west of the
tracks.
• This space could be

CPS is required to sell the property to the highest “responsible” bidder, CPS has indicated that if a community determines their preferences for re-use, those preferences will be included in the bid solicitation. In effect, developers bidding on the property will need to incorporate these preferences in order to be considered. As with any of the vacant school buildings, an immediate re-use for another govt. purpose would negate this bid solicitation process. Could be another school, a library, a municipal staff use of some sort… Future uses may include a new school, but potentially something else, such as housing, community space, offices, retail, or any number of things.
