WHO I AM AS A DESIGNER

WHO I AM AS A PERSON
PERSONABLE / DILIGENT / EXUBERANT
Classic, clean lines, with shapes and designs which enhance the wearer. My designs have one mantra engrained in them “Living it
limitless in the relentless pursuit”. I design garments to empower the wearer with confidence, style and the attitude they need to get
where they need to go to achieve their greatness.
I am obsessed with New York - I design in a New York state of mind. That is “I am my own confidence in this city that never sleeps”.
I manage my design from inspiration through to sketching, patternmaking, grading and construction. My formal training and skills i have
developed allow me to express my thoughts and ideas from start to finish.
I am a hard working, approachable & loyal person. I am highly self critical, but that allows me to find solutions to overcoming any barriers
that may befall my journey.
I grew up in South Auckland - A multicultural hub - which has instilled in me the respect, compassion and understanding of differences
we all bring as individuals. I have a strong support network which is a testament to the experiences i have had in my life.
I come from humble beginnings understand the need to “make it work”.
I am now at a point in my life and career that i want to realise my potential. I have learnt so much to date, but am always ready to learn
more. To continually extend myself and learn is a reason I chose to become a part of fashions continuous evolution.

Inspiration
The inspiration behind the Tyrone James Orchid Collection stemmed from an or-
chid print I stumbled upon. It alligned with my design aesthetic of clean lines,
and captured the softness of spring.
Living in Melbourne, “ Spring Carvival” always has you thinking about
flowers and how beautiful and delicate they are. I wanted to
bring this print and show that using classic lines and fit, can
achieve a modern and empowering garment.
I paired this inspiration with envisioning my
designs walking through the concrete jungle
which in New York. Confidence, comfort
and style is what this collection was
about.
The Orchid Collection was designed, patterned, sampled and manufcatured
in under four weeks for the Made In Melbourne Designer Market
Orchid Print Pencil Skirt
Haori Crop Jacket
Raglan Cut Jersey Top
White Pullover Crop
Geo Print Twin Sets:
- Pullover Crop
- Front Split Pencil
- A Line Short
When choosing fabric for this collection
i wanted to ensure that the garment was
comfortable as well as stylish.
I used a Cotton Elastane because i wanted
the cool qualities of the natural fibre,
but also wanted the stretch across the
width of the garment to help with fit.
The color palette of this collecton
was based around complemening the
Orchid print.
Looking at Trends for Spring Summer
14 i was able to establish the choice
of colour matched the soft pastels
however added a little vibrancy to
those hues.
The Geo Print was a later edition as
the overall look was too soft.
During the Made In Melbourne Designer Market held at the Queen Victoria Markets it was
the colours and prints which attracted majority of our customers.
The ability to create looks with the garments was a great advantage, but also how i designed
with separates in mind. Very rarely do people where a single brand head to toe. So when
selecting the fabrics i looked for materials and colours that would compliment what they
may already have in their wardrobe .
Material Selections
Design
My personal design aesthetic
is simple and clean.
I aim to make the material do
the work and design to flatter
the wearers body.
I am inspired by New York and
always design with trying to
imagine who the woman i need
to design for is.
When designing i take into
account the following:
- Where do she go in her day?
- Where does she shop?
- Where does she work?
- Why does she buy clothes?
- Where does she plan on wearing
the clothes?
- What trends would she find
important?
This helps me to build a story to a
theme or inspiration. It allows me
to understand what is important
to my customer.
Technical Skills
I have
been
formally trained
in manual Pattern
Making, Grading,
Sampling, and Garment
Construction.
For the Orchid Collection in 5 weeks
i was able to design, pattern make,
sample and manufacture 130 garments.
is included posting on Social Media and also
working to build our website to develop an online
platform for sales.
I have been trained in garment construction for large scale
manufacturing, producing spec sheets which included lay plans,
costing and construction breakdown listing the industrial machines
and techniques used to complete the garment.

- 5 Thread Overlocker
- Cover Seamer
- Elasticator
Manufacturing
The flat sketches and lay plans that i have
made where done using Adobe Illustrator.
The Fashion Sketches on the right we
intergrated the fabric swatches using
Adobe Photoshop
Understanding garment construction
and manual grading has assisted in
understanding how to make the garments
more realistic.
I have ensured that when
manufacturing that I was
compliant with the Australian &
New Zealand labelling standards.
Being trained in manfacturing
construction techniques i am
able to sample and complete
garments effeciently.
I am able to identify methods
of achieving the design and
maintaining quality, whilst also
factoring in the labor cost.
Marketing
I have been involved in writing trend guides for a lifestyle magazine and for the StyleHunter Network, featured as a designer on the
mac+mae website, have had an editorial photograph of my work in South Magazine and also been a part of 3 month TV and
Along with building my personal brand the Tyrone James Website was launched in December 2014 to help me further engage my
audience.
Social Media platforms such as Facebook & Instagram have been instrumental in connecting with other creatives, showcasing my
designs and engaging with potential new customers.

  • 2. WHO I AM AS A DESIGNER NEW YORK OBSESSED WHO I AM AS A PERSON PERSONABLE / DILIGENT / EXUBERANT Classic, clean lines, with shapes and designs which enhance the wearer. My designs have one mantra engrained in them “Living it limitless in the relentless pursuit”. I design garments to empower the wearer with confidence, style and the attitude they need to get where they need to go to achieve their greatness. I am obsessed with New York - I design in a New York state of mind. That is “I am my own confidence in this city that never sleeps”. I manage my design from inspiration through to sketching, patternmaking, grading and construction. My formal training and skills i have developed allow me to express my thoughts and ideas from start to finish. I am a hard working, approachable & loyal person. I am highly self critical, but that allows me to find solutions to overcoming any barriers that may befall my journey. I grew up in South Auckland - A multicultural hub - which has instilled in me the respect, compassion and understanding of differences we all bring as individuals. I have a strong support network which is a testament to the experiences i have had in my life. I come from humble beginnings understand the need to “make it work”. I am now at a point in my life and career that i want to realise my potential. I have learnt so much to date, but am always ready to learn more. To continually extend myself and learn is a reason I chose to become a part of fashions continuous evolution.   • 3. ORCHID COLLECTION Tyrone James Fashion | SPRING SUMMER 2014 Inspiration The inspiration behind the Tyrone James Orchid Collection stemmed from an or- chid print I stumbled upon. It alligned with my design aesthetic of clean lines, and captured the softness of spring. Living in Melbourne, “ Spring Carvival” always has you thinking about flowers and how beautiful and delicate they are. I wanted to bring this print and show that using classic lines and fit, can achieve a modern and empowering garment. I paired this inspiration with envisioning my designs walking through the concrete jungle which in New York. Confidence, comfort and style is what this collection was about.

The Orchid Collection was designed, patterned, sampled and manufcatured in under four weeks for the Made In Melbourne Designer Market Orchid Print Pencil Skirt Haori Crop Jacket Raglan Cut Jersey Top White Pullover Crop Geo Print Twin Sets: - Pullover Crop - Front Split Pencil - A Line Short When choosing fabric for this collection i wanted to ensure that the garment was comfortable as well as stylish. I used a Cotton Elastane because i wanted the cool qualities of the natural fibre, but also wanted the stretch across the width of the garment to help with fit. The color palette of this collecton was based around complemening the Orchid print. Looking at Trends for Spring Summer 14 i was able to establish the choice of colour matched the soft pastels however added a little vibrancy to those hues. The Geo Print was a later edition as the overall look was too soft. During the Made In Melbourne Designer Market held at the Queen Victoria Markets it was the colours and prints which attracted majority of our customers. The ability to create looks with the garments was a great advantage, but also how i designed with separates in mind. Very rarely do people where a single brand head to toe. So when selecting the fabrics i looked for materials and colours that would compliment what they may already have in their wardrobe . Material Selections
  • 5. Design My personal design aesthetic is simple and clean. I aim to make the material do the work and design to flatter the wearers body. I am inspired by New York and always design with trying to imagine who the woman i need to design for is. When designing i take into account the following: - Where do she go in her day? - Where does she shop? - Where does she work? - Why does she buy clothes? - Where does she plan on wearing the clothes? - What trends would she find important? This helps me to build a story to a theme or inspiration. It allows me to understand what is important to my customer.
  • 6. Technical Skills I have been formally trained in manual Pattern Making, Grading, Sampling, and Garment Construction. For the Orchid Collection in 5 weeks i was able to design, pattern make, sample and manufacture 130 garments. is included posting on Social Media and also working to build our website to develop an online platform for sales. I have been trained in garment construction for large scale manufacturing, producing spec sheets which included lay plans, costing and construction breakdown listing the industrial machines and techniques used to complete the garment. Industrial Machines Used: - Plain Sewer - 5 Thread Overlocker - Cover Seamer - Elasticator
  • 7. Manufacturing The flat sketches and lay plans that i have made where done using Adobe Illustrator. The Fashion Sketches on the right we intergrated the fabric swatches using Adobe Photoshop Understanding garment construction and manual grading has assisted in understanding how to make the garments more realistic. I have ensured that when manufacturing that I was compliant with the Australian & New Zealand labelling standards. Being trained in manfacturing construction techniques i am able to sample and complete garments effeciently. I am able to identify methods of achieving the design and maintaining quality, whilst also factoring in the labor cost.

Marketing I have been involved in writing trend guides for a lifestyle magazine and for the StyleHunter Network, featured as a designer on the mac+mae website, have had an editorial photograph of my work in South Magazine and also been a part of 3 month TV and Along with building my personal brand the Tyrone James Website was launched in December 2014 to help me further engage my audience. Social Media platforms such as Facebook & Instagram have been instrumental in connecting with other creatives, showcasing my designs and engaging with potential new customers.
