As every year, this 2020, the friends of We are Social and
Hootsuite, come together to present the world digital report,
with the most important statistics. This time from 247 countries.
The most complete report that exists and of obligatory use by
the companies that operate on the Internet.

Here is a brief summary of the most important data.
Digital in 2020: The biggest numbers
The digital paper in our lives has reached new levels, with
many more people spending much more time, doing more
tasks online, than ever before:
● Social animals: Almost half of the world's population (3.8
billion people) currently use social media.
● Increased Internet use: 4.54 billion people are now
online: 298 million new people got online last year.
● In data: 64% of Internet users are concerned about how
companies use their personal data and almost half now
use ad blockers.
● Voice Notes: 43% of internet users now use voice
interfaces every month.
● Game time: 4 out of 5 Internet users play games every
month.
● The Disconnected: 3.2 billion people remain
disconnected - more than 40% of the world's population.
● Gender gap: women only represent 45% of global social
media users.
Digital around the world in 2020
● The number of people around the world using the internet
has grown to 4.54 billion, an increase of 7% (298 million
new users), compared to January 2019.
● In the world, there are 3.80 billion social media users in
January 2020, with this number the increase is more than
9% (321 million new users), also compared to January
2019.
● Globally, more than 5.19 billion people now use mobile
phones, which is 124 million (2.4%), more than last year.
Use of social media around the world
There are 3.80 billion people using social media, that
represents a 49% penetration (49% of the world population).
With a vigorous growth of around 9% per year.
Of the 3.80 billion who use social platforms, 3.75 billion access
through mobile phones; which represents 99% of all users.
You probably spent more than 100 days online this year.
The average internet user now spends 6 hours 43 minutes
online each day. Those are 3 minutes less than last year, but it
still shows more than 100 hours of connection per user, per
year. If we calculate that we sleep 8 hours a day, that means
that we spend more than 40% of our lives using the internet.
What's more, Internet users globally will spend a cumulative
1.25 trillion years online in 2020, with more than a third of that
time spent using social media. However, the amount of time
people spend online varies from country to country, with
Internet users in the Philippines spending an average of 9
hours and 45 minutes per day online, compared to just 4 hours
and 22 minutes. per day in Japan.
Full access: connect the disconnected
Just over 40 percent of the world's total population, roughly 3.2
billion people, is still not connected to the Internet.
More than 1 billion of these "disconnected" people live in South
Asia (31 percent of the total). African countries account for 27
percent of the total, with 870 million people online across the
continent as a whole.
GlobalWebIndex reports that we now spend an average of 2
hours and 24 minutes per person, per day, using social media;
up to 2 more minutes per day, from January 2019.
Again, the story varies by country. Filipinos remain the most
"social" people in the world, with an average internet user aged
16 to 64 spending nearly 4 hours a day on social platforms.
However, it is a very different situation at the other end of the
scale, with Internet users in Japan spending an average of just
45 minutes per day using social media.
But where exactly do we spend all that social time, and how big
is TikTok? Keep reading, we are going there ...
Facebook is still the queen
Despite various challenges in recent years, Facebook remains
the dominant social network. Trends in user numbers reported
by this social network, in the company's earnings
announcements, suggest that the platform should have already
passed the historic 2.5 billion monthly active user (MAU) mark,
and user numbers continued growing steadily in most countries
during 2019.
TikTok time
TikTok was probably the most popular social network in 2019.
By displaying huge and often misrepresented numbers, they
made headlines. However, data leaked by AdAge a couple of
months ago offers more clarity on what is happening.
First of all, there is no denying it: TikTok is great. It has 800
million monthly active users.
However, 500 million of these active users, more than 60
percent of the total, live in China. That means the platform has
roughly 300 million monthly active users, outside of China.
In addition, the latest data from the app suggests that Chinese
users account for 80 percent of the total time spent using
TikTok in 2019, while users in India account for an additional 10
percent of the total. Therefore, the sum of users from China
and India represents approximately 9 out of 10 minutes of
TikTok usage worldwide.
Regardless of the differences between countries, TikTok rose
to sixth place in the world ranking of mobile applications, by
monthly active users for 2019. Although, it is still below
WhatsApp, Facebook, WeChat and Instagram, we must not
lose sight that it has already exceeded to the rest of the other
social platforms. This is an application that we will continue to
hear about in the coming months, so we must be vigilant ...
Now for an overview of the most important social media
audiences.
Facebook audience overview:
Despite having reached two thousand four hundred and
forty-nine million users (2.449 billion), advertisers only have
access to one thousand nine hundred and fifty million (1.95
billion). Of these, 32% are over 13 years of age, about
624,000,000 users.
While the quarterly change in Facebook's advertising reach has
been increasing, at a rate of 1%.
Finally, 44% of the audience is female and 56% male.
The following table shows the number of users of the social
network, by age range. Being the range between 25 and 34
years, the most nurtured with 627 million users.
Twitter audience overview:
Twitter reports that all users, 340 million people, can be
reached with advertising on its platform. Of these, 5.6% are
over the age of 13, about 19,040,000 users. This number is
surprising and even absurd to us. Is it the reason why this
social network has done so badly in terms of advertising
revenue?
The quarterly change in Twitter's advertising reach has been
decreasing, at a rate of 3.1%.
Finally, 38% of the audience is female and 62% male.
Instagram audience overview:
Instagram reports that almost all of its users, 928 million
people, can be reached with advertising on its platform. Of
these, 15% are over the age of 13, about 139,200,000 users.
The quarterly change in Instagram's advertising reach has been
increasing, at a rate of 5.7%.
Finally, 50.9% of the audience is female and 49.1% male.
LinkedIn audience overview:
LinkedIn reports that 663 million people can be reached with
advertising on its platform. Of these, 12% are over 18 years of
age. Some 79,560,000 million users.
The quarterly change in LinkedIn's advertising reach has been
increasing, at a rate of 1.6%.
Finally, 43% of the audience is female and 57% male.
Pinterest audience overview:
Pinterest reports that 169 million people, out of the 322 million
active users, can be reached with advertising on its platform. Of
these, 2.8% are over the age of 13, about 4,732,000. Another
number that surprises us.
Pinterest's quarterly change in ad reach has been increasing, at
a rate of 12%.
Finally, 72% of the audience is female and 20% male.
Youtube audience overview:
YouTube reports that two billion users log into the platform
monthly. Of these, 33% are over 13 years old, about
660,000,000 million users.
On the other hand, the total number of hours of video viewed
daily is 1 billion.
Finally, 45% of the audience is female and 55% male.
And so we end with the summary of this extraordinary study.

the elaboration of the strategic plan of digital marketing, of any
company.

The digital paper in our lives has reached new levels, with many more people spending much more time, doing more tasks online, than ever before: ● Social animals: Almost half of the world's population (3.8 billion people) currently use social media. ● Increased Internet use: 4.54 billion people are now online: 298 million new people got online last year. ● In data: 64% of Internet users are concerned about how companies use their personal data and almost half now use ad blockers. ● Voice Notes: 43% of internet users now use voice interfaces every month. ● Game time: 4 out of 5 Internet users play games every month. ● The Disconnected: 3.2 billion people remain disconnected - more than 40% of the world's population.

Trends in user numbers reported by this social network, in the company's earnings announcements, suggest that the platform should have already passed the historic 2.5 billion monthly active user (MAU) mark, and user numbers continued growing steadily in most countries during 2019.

Therefore, the sum of users from China and India represents approximately 9 out of 10 minutes of TikTok usage worldwide. Regardless of the differences between countries, TikTok rose to sixth place in the world ranking of mobile applications, by monthly active users for 2019. Although, it is still below WhatsApp, Facebook, WeChat and Instagram, we must not lose sight that it has already exceeded to the rest of the other social platforms.   • 11. Now for an overview of the most important social media audiences. Facebook audience overview: Despite having reached two thousand four hundred and forty-nine million users (2.449 billion), advertisers only have access to one thousand nine hundred and fifty million (1.95 billion). Of these, 32% are over 13 years of age, about 624,000,000 users. While the quarterly change in Facebook's advertising reach has been increasing, at a rate of 1%. Finally, 44% of the audience is female and 56% male.

Finally, 50.9% of the audience is female and 49.1% male.
  • 14. LinkedIn audience overview: LinkedIn reports that 663 million people can be reached with advertising on its platform. Of these, 12% are over 18 years of age. Some 79,560,000 million users. The quarterly change in LinkedIn's advertising reach has been increasing, at a rate of 1.6%. Finally, 43% of the audience is female and 57% male.
  • 15. Pinterest audience overview: Pinterest reports that 169 million people, out of the 322 million active users, can be reached with advertising on its platform. Of these, 2.8% are over the age of 13, about 4,732,000. Another number that surprises us. Pinterest's quarterly change in ad reach has been increasing, at a rate of 12%. Finally, 72% of the audience is female and 20% male.
  • 16. Youtube audience overview: YouTube reports that two billion users log into the platform monthly. Of these, 33% are over 13 years old, about 660,000,000 million users. On the other hand, the total number of hours of video viewed daily is 1 billion. Finally, 45% of the audience is female and 55% male.
