A Short Guide to our Meetings
The following is a short explanation of how our weekly Toastmasters meetings work. They typically last 2
hours, from 7-9pm on Wednesdays. We also occasionally have special events (contests, dinners, talent
shows, etc.) that do not follow this agenda.
Introductions
Our Sergeant at Arms calls the meeting to order, introduces our Chairman. The Head Table Participants and
those Assisting the Head Table are introduced. The grammarian explains his/her role and the word of the
week.
Business Session
Can only be conducted if we have quorum. Update of the status of last meeting's minutes by the secretary.
Resolve any old business items. Members can bring up any new business items.
Educational Session
Lead by the Toastmaster (the host for the evening), the educational sessions focuses on explaining our
education program and having our prepared speeches. Each speaker is introduced by the Toastmaster, has
the objectives of his/her speech project explained, and is evaluated by an evaluator.
Break
10 minutes to mingle, enjoy the free coffee and snacks, and make new friends!
Table Topics
Lead by the Table Topics Master, the Table Topics session consists in impromptu speaking. The Table
Topics Master asks a question to the audience and calls upon a member, who must then answer said
question without any preparation in 1-2 minutes. The speaker is then evaluated. Always a lot of fun!
Evaluations
Lead by the General Evaluator, the Evaluation Session is crucial to a Toastmasters Meeting. Both speakers
and audience learn from the constructive criticism offered about what was good and what needs
improvement. The evaluations reasserts the speakers's strengths and lets them know exactly what they
need to work on.
Wrap Up
The Chairman delivers his closing remarks, awards the best speaker, table topics speaker, and evaluator
(voted by the audience) each a ribbon, and invites the guests to comment on how they feel about the
meeting.
N.B. We also have a post-meeting social event at The Pioneer, a bar just down the street. You're more than
welcome to join us!
