trindent consulting – the importance of a sustainability coordinator
1. Trindent Consulting – The Importance of a Sustainability Coordinator
There is strong argument supporting the fact that hiring an outside team, one that is
experienced and educated in process improvement, can yield tremendous results in
a given business, regardless of its industry. Outside consulting companies can bring
a fresh perspective to issues that are hindering business productivity. Beyond that,
many businesses cannot afford to have on their team staff members that have deep
process improvement knowledge and training. All of which are reasons why many
companies, at some point or another, bring in an outside consulting firm, with an
eye toward improving one or several of its business functions.
Now there is no doubt that many consulting firms in the past have done a good job
helping their clients realize greater efficiency and higher ROI. Indeed, if that were
not the case, the consulting industry as a whole would probably have faded away
many years ago. However, with that said, what many firms in the consulting field
have not accomplished as admirably is creating sustained improvement in the
organizations they’ve consulted. Sustainability has been the topic of a fair amount
of discussion within the industry, and in many ways, a consultant’s ability to create
sustained improvement in a business is something that separates the truly effective
firms from the lesser so.
At Trindent Consulting, creating sustainable improvement ranks as one of our most
important objectives in each and every consulting project we undertake. Although
our methodologies for business improvement differ from industry to industry and
are most often customized to meet the individual demands of our client’s, we have
certain company-wide mandates that concentrate on and assure sustained
improvement.
For example, to assure that the process, tools and management behaviors we make
to a client’s organization remain and still provide positive impact, it’s standard for
our teams to return every six months for the span of two years to each one of our
clients.
Trindent Consulting values sustainability so highly that we have molded our system
of compensation around the concept. Unlike other firms that oftentimes
compensate their consultants through work hours done or project tasks completed,
here at Trindent Consulting our consultants are compensated only based on the
actual sustained financial improvement that our clients experience after a project is
completed. There are many reasons why we have structured our reward system in
this way, one of the major reasons being that it guarantees that everyone working
on a given consulting project is centered on the goal of delivering sustained, tangible
results.
But, perhaps the most fundamental tool we use to create sustainable results is
creating what’s called a sustainability coordinator or sustainability partner during
the engagement period. A sustainability coordinator is someone from the client’s
2. staff, usually a manager or supervisor, who works closely with our consultants
throughout the period of our engagement with the client. The sustainability partner
becomes the one who will have the best understanding of the changes authored in
by the engagement period, and furthermore, will be fully immersed in our
consulting methodology. As a result, at the end of the engagement, after our
consultant team leaves, the sustainability coordinator will have the tools needed to
assure that the improvements made to the business remain.
