Nick Leeson
Special Guest Speaker
Nick Leeson is the original Rogue Trader whose unchecked
risk-taking caused the collapse of Barings Bank in 1995 - one
of the most spectacular and notorious events in modern
financial history.
Following Barings’ collapse, Nick Leeson was sentenced to
six and half years in a gang-ridden Singaporean jail. While
incarcerated, his wife left him and he was diagnosed with colon
cancer.
In 1996 Nick published Rogue Trader, his gripping account of
the collapse of Barings, and in 1999 he was immortalised in the
movie of the same name by Ewan McGregor.
Nick has now fully recovered from cancer and lives happily
in Ireland with second wife Leona and three children. He is in
huge demand as an event and after-dinner speaker and we are
delighted to welcome him to today’s event.
Nick will be discussing the importance of the bank’s corporate
responsibility and the need to mitigate risk when deciding on
banking partners. This is an issue that is of vital importance in
today’s competitive business world.
