Enhances operation of field devices by allowing digital communication
Important benefits:
Allows simultaneous 4-20mA analog signal and digital over same wiring
Existing cabling can be used
Current control strategies remain secure
Additional information can be transmitted
Tag numbers, measured values, range and span data, product information and diagnostics
Reduces operation costs
Important information is available for installation, calibration and maintenance
Improved management and utilization of “smart” instrument networks

and a Hand Pump.
Calibration

Pressure Generation
• Hand pumps most portable means to generate pressure
• Pneumatic versions range up 600 PSI
• Many can generate vacuum to -12 PSI
• Hydraulic versions typically range up to 10,000 PSI
• Use DI water or mineral oil
• Hand-pumps need rebuilding often, develop leaks
• Include course adjust, fine adjust and vent
• Nitrogen bottles with regulators
• Heavy but self regulate with small leaks
Need to be refilled often if used for high pressure

• Test setup pre-configured based on the found HART
configuration or the selected task
• Further settings (defaults) that define the test, update as
needed, can be changed and saved as customized

• Select AutoTest and the 729 will apply the
test pressure, measure mA signals and
calculate Error %
• If out of specification, use HART Trim
commands to adjust
• Perform the As-Left with the same
Autotest feature
