Know your Apple ID & Password
You will need to know your Apple ID and Password. If you do not have one, you can create one. If you forgot your Apple
ID or Password, you can recover your Apple ID/Password at this website: iforgot.appleid.com

1. IPad Overview: Find key controls for using your iPad
2. Learn to navigate your iPad with touchscreen gestures: How to use your finger to operate your iPad, and how
to use the Home button.
3. Multi-task on your iPad Press home button twice quickly to view all open apps. To close an app, touch app and
swipe to left or right to close app.
4. Use the iPad App store: How to search for, evaluate and install apps
5. Reboot your iPad Press both the home and sleep wake button and hold until iPad shuts downs, then reboot to
resolve technical issues if necessary.
6. Back up your iPad: Back up your iPad’s content with iCloud, or Via connection to iTunes on your PC

Navigate iPad’s App store.
1. Find the iPad App store icon. Tap once to open the app store.
2. Search for apps: type in the box in the upper right corner of the page. The search box is available in every
section of the App Store.
3. Look at the bottom of your iPad’s screen. You will see a grey shaded area with menu buttons as in this screen
shot::
4. Each of these five icons (from left to right) Featured, Top Charts, Explore, Purchased, and Updates, helps you to
navigate Apple’s App store by tapping the desired icon once. Let’s explore how these icons help you browse the
app store, and review & update apps presently installed on your iPad and other iOS devices you may own. Note:
To know where you are in the app store, look for the icon in blue. You can also look at the top center of your
screen to see where you are.
a. Featured Shows you new and featured apps.
Tip: Some new & featured Apps are free for a limited time. Check the featured section of the app store
to get promising new apps for free.
b. Top Charts These sections shows the most popular app by category: Free, Paid, & highest grossing apps.
These charts show you the most popular apps chosen by iPad users. It can help you identify the popular
apps you want to add to your iPad. It’s quicker than searching the App Store.
TIP: Tap categories in the upper left corner to find lists of top apps by category.
c. Explore Use the “Popular near me” feature to find popular local apps for your location. Offers browsing
apps by category, such as sports, news, etc.
d. Purchased Find all Apps you have purchased (free apps included) from the App Store, see apps installed
on your iPad and other Apple devices you may own.
e. Updates A record of when your apps were updated, and which apps have updates available (you can opt
to automatically install updates to apps, which is recommended.)

Tips & Tricks: iPad’s Native (Built-in) Apps
FaceTime: Enjoy free Video chat communication with other iOS device users, including iPhone
users, and iPod touch. The iPad’s front facing camera makes this possible.
Camera: A Front and Rear camera makes video calls possible.
You can edit photos.
Organize Albums.
Take pictures, videos, panorama shots, time-lapse shots, and more.
Photos are automatically organized by date.
Photos also organized by location with geolocation is enabled.
Messages: Send text messages & more
• Send an instant message to anyone with an iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch for free. To find
others using an Apple device, search through your contacts by name and/or cell number.
• Messages from other iOS device users appear in blue.
• In addition to text, pictures, and videos, iOS 8 now allows you to send recorded messages.
• To see when a message was sent, touch message and swipe from right side of iPad to the
left.
Settings: Customize your iPad

Music: Enjoy music on your iPad. If you used an iPod before, you should know the iPad can
play tunes from your iTunes music library and more. Other apps such as Tune-In, Pandora,
Spotify, and Hoopla will open up even more music listening possibilities.

How to turn iPad on & Off:
Press and hold the sleep/wake button. Touch slider, swipe to right to turn on and off.
Practice: What happens when you first turn iPad on.
Restart/Reboot the iPad: If an App gets stuck, or the iPad somehow is frozen, you can turn the power off and
restart the iPad again. To do this, press and hold the sleep/wake button until the iPad is ready to shut down.
You will see a slider button to power down. This can clear up some problems.
iPad Accessories
iPad accessories to consider:
Protect your iPad with an iPad cover. When you close an iPad’s cover, the iPad will go to sleep.
Use a soft lint-free cloth to wipe fingerprints and smudges off the screen. Do not use harsh chemicals.
Syncing your iPad to back up your iPad’s content
1. The data on your iPad, like any data should be backed up
