A Guide to Summer Clothing
1. A Guide To Summer
What to wear this summer season
2. Dress with confidence
A Gentleman’s summer wardrobe has always been
something that few manage to conquer.
It is something that proves eternally tricky, but by
following a few simple rules, this does not have to be
the case.
We hope that this guide will allow you to find the
perfect summer wardrobe for you, opening up the
possibilities of what to wear when the sun comes out.
3. Jackets
There are three designs to look at
here.
1. Plain
2. Patterned
3. Striped
If you go patterned, make sure that
you stick predominantly to a single
colour.
With stripes, stick to one colour and
white. Keep the colour a pastel.
Again, with plain, keep the colour
gentle and ideally pastel and a colour
that you usually wear. You can’t go
wrong with a blue.
4. FABRICS
When looking for a summer jacket,
take a look at the following fabrics:
• Linen
• Silk, Linen, Wool mix
• Lightweight wools
• Cotton
• Seersucker
• Silk and linen
Some of the mills that we use for our
bespoke jackets are:
Dugdale Brothers
Harrisons of Edinburgh
Scabal
Bateman Ogden
Silk, cotton mix from Dugdale Bros
Lightweight wool from Scabal
5. Trousers
Stick with a single plain
colour at all times with your
summer trousers.
Don’t be scared to go bright,
this is the time of year to go
bold but always make sure
the rest of your outfit is subtle.
Fabric wise, look at cottons,
linens, linen mixes, &
lightweight wools

7. There are only two real designs to
settle on when looking at summer
shirts.
Stick plain, or go very patterned with a
Liberty style print.
The best thing about summer shirts is
the fabric selection.
Most people go with a linen shirt, but I
would suggest to look at Acorn
Fabrics Bamboo / linen mix shirts.
These look like classic linen shirts but
have more body to them so don’t
crease as easily.
Liberty prints are always stylish and
look great with a plain dark jacket.
Shirts
8. If you don’t fancy wearing a full shirt,
then a polo shirt is a great option.
Don’t go with a relaxed heavyweight
cotton pique polo shirt, but look for
sea island cotton, or cotton mesh
which are both lightweight, breathable
and are extremely smart and stylish.
Think James Bond or Arnold Palmer in
his prime. Fitted, tucked in and sharp.
Companies to look at for your summer
polos are:
• John Smedley
• Sunspel
• Orlebar Brown
