History of Print Media
The history of Print Media in India began in 1780, with the
publication of Bengal Gazette from Calcutta.
The first Indian newspaper was started by James Augustus,
considered as the ‘Father of Indian Press’.
‘Samachar Darpan’ was the first Newspaper published in an
Indian language in Bengali in 1818.

WHAT IS NEWS ?
News is the information from all four directions i.e. North, East, West,
South.
News is what makes us known of the unknown facts.
News can be something unusual.
News is something which is new.
News is what makes us aware of the surroundings.
News is the report of current events, happenings, accidents, politics,
sports, human interest etc.

ELEMENTS EXPLAINED..
Timeliness: A news is worth if it is timely. News later two three
days is of no importance as it would have been on the
first day.
Proximity: It means near and dear ones. In other words, it means
the news from the neighboring countries, and local.
Prominence: Prominence means importance. News should
constitute all the facts which are of great importance
and needs public attention.

Consequence: It constitutes of the reports, results and effects of
events or something which is unpleasant
Human Interest: This means that news should be on the topic that
interest people, majorly a soft news that concerns
people.
Conflict: News also constitute a report on a serious disagreement or
argument on certain issues or situations.

Other Forms of Print Media
Like newspapers; magazines, weeklies and journals are also the other
form of Print media. They are published at regular intervals, some
are weekly, fortnightly, bi-weekly and tri-monthly. They also
constitute of information which aware, inform and educate.
A weekly is published once a week and a monthly once a month. A
fortnightly is published once in two weeks. A bi-weekly is published
twice every week. A tri-monthly is one which is published every
three months. These are also known as quarterlies. Then there are
certain publications that come out only once a year which are called
annuals
