Definition of E-commerce
• Commonly known as Electronic Marketing.
• It consist of buying and selling of products and services by
businesses and consumers through an electronic medium,
without using any paper documents.
• E-commerce is the purchasing, selling and exchanging
goods and services over computer networks(internet)
through which transaction or terms of sale are performed
electronically.

o 1970s: Electronic Funds Transfer(EFT)
Used by banking industry to exchange account
information over secured networks.
o Late 1970s and early 1980s:Electronic Data
Interchange(EDI) for ecommerce within companies
Used by businesses to transmit data from one
business to another.
o 1990s :The world wide web on the internet provides
easy to use technology

• Consumer to Business ecommerce is defined
as commerce between customers and
organizations.

online and companies review customers

Consumer reviews bid and selects a company
that will complete the project.

• Consumer To Consumer ecommerce is simply
commerce between private individuals or

• M-Commerce(Mobile Commerce) is the

Electronic Payment System(EPS)
• Electronic Payment is a financial Exchange that takes
place online between buyers and sellers.
• It is done through an electronic instrument such as a
credit card or debit card.
• It is a system which helps customer or user to make
online payment for their shopping.

E-cash
• An e-commerce system that uses e-cash refers to
a system in which money is only exchanged
electronically.
• To use e-cash, link your personal bank account to
other payee accounts.
• To make payments using your e-cash account,
you can make a deposit to the other person's e-
cash account if you have their banking
information, or request a transfer to their bank
account.

E-Wallet
• An e-wallet or digital wallet , is another type
of e-commerce payment system.
• Like a physical wallet, an e-wallet can store
your personal information and payment.
• E-wallets are stored within your PC. By
entering personal information , such as your
name and billing address, we can connect it to
your bank account to withdraw funds from
account when making on-line purchases.

Smart Card
• A Smart card is a plastic card with embedded
integrated circuits which can process data.
• It can receive input which is processed and
delivered as an output.
• Smart cards are used as employee id cards,
medical cards for user identification
purposes.

Credit Card
• The most common form of payment for e-
commerce transactions is through credit cards.
• To use this system, shoppers simply enter their
credit card number and date of expiry on the web
page.
• For the purpose of security ,use of CVN(card
verification number) located on back of the
credit card detects fraud by comparing the CVN
with the cardholder's information as supplied by
their bank.

By entering personal information , such as your name and billing address, we can connect it to your bank account to withdraw funds from account when making on-line purchases.
