17. They were the first to write laws and codes, the first to establish an educational system, the first to develop a sense of community, the first to establish an organized medical concept, the first to develop a political system, the first to develop a numeric system, the first to develop an economic system, and the first civilization to develop a concept of religion and psychology. They built the first temples and invented the religious concept of the tower, the symbolic link between man and God, heaven and earth. This tower, known as a ziggurat is Sumer’s most significant contribution to religious architecture.
18. Many of the concepts from the Old Testament have their roots from these people. They were the first to write about the creation of the universe, the creation of man, the story of Adam and Eve, the Flood, the story of Cain and Abel, the concept of the personal God, the story of the Tower of Babel embodied in the symbol of the ziggurat , and death and the nether world.

28. Dana came into the room. She stood beside me, and we made eye contact. I mouthed my first lucid words to her: ‘Maybe we should let me go.’ Dana started crying. She said, ‘I am only going to say this once: I will support whatever you want to do, because this is your life, and your decision. But I want you to know that I’ll be with you for the long haul, no matter what.’ Then she added the words that saved my life: ‘You’re still you. And I love you.’
29. If she had looked away or paused or hesitated even slightly, or if I had felt there was a sense of her being-being what?-noble, or fulfilling some obligation to me, I don’t know if I could have pulled through. Because it had dawned on me that I was going to be a huge burden to everybody, that I had ruined my life and everybody else’s. Not fair to anybody. The best thing to do would be to slip away.
30. But what Dana said made living seem possible, because I felt the depth of her love and commitment. I was even able to make a little joke. I mouthed, ‘This is way beyond the marriage vows-in sickness and in health.’ And she said, ‘I know.’ I knew then and there that she was going to be with me forever.
31. Red roses were her favorites, her name was also Rose. And every year her husband sent them, tied with pretty bows. The year he died, the roses were delivered to her door. The card said, ‘Be my Valentine,’ like all the years before. Each year he sent her roses, and the note would always say. ‘I love you more this year, than last year on this day. My love for you will always grow, with every passing year.’ She knew this was the last time that the roses would appear. She thought he ordered roses in advance before this day. Her loving husband did not know, that he would pass away. He always liked to do things early, way before the time. Then, if he got too busy, everything would work out fine.
32. She trimmed the stems, and placed them in a very special vase. Then, sat the vase beside the portrait of his smiling face. She would sit for hours, in her husband’s favorite chair. While staring at his picture, and the roses sitting there. A year went by, and it was hard to live without her mate. With loneliness and solitude, that had become her fate. Then, the very hour, as on Valentines before. The doorbell rang, and there were roses, sitting by her door. She brought the roses in, and then just looked at them in shock. Then, went to get the telephone, to call the florist shop. The owner answered, and she asked him, if he would explain. Why would someone do this to her, causing her so much pain?
33. ‘ I know your husband passed away, more than a year ago.’ The owner said, ‘I knew you’d call, and you would want to know. The flowers you received today, were paid for in advance. Your husband always planned ahead, he left nothing to chance. There is a standing order, that I have on file down here. And he has paid, well in advance, you’ll get them every year. There also is another thing, that I think you should know. He wrote a special little card…he did this years ago. Then, should ever I find out that he’s no longer here. That’s the card…that should be sent, to you the following year.’ She thanked him and hung up the phone, her tears now flowing hard. Her fingers shaking, as she slowly read the card. Inside the card, she saw that he had written her a note. Then, as she stared in total silence, this is what he wrote…
34. ‘ Hello my love, I know it’s been a year since I’ve been gone. I hope it hasn’t been too hard for you to overcome. I know it must be lonely, and the pain is very real. Or if it was the other way, I know how I would feel. The love we shared made everything so beautiful in life. I loved you more than words can say, you were the perfect wife. You were my friend and lover, you fulfilled my every need. I know it’s only been a year, but please try not to grieve. I want you to be happy, even when you shed your tears. This is why the roses will be sent to you for years. When you get these roses, think of all the happiness. That we had together, and how both of us were blessed. I have always loved you and I know I always will.
35. But, my love, you must go on, you have some living still. Please…try to find happiness, while living out your days. I know it is not easy, but I hope you find some ways. The roses will come every year, and they will only stop. When your door’s not answered, when the florist stops to knock. He will come five times that day, in case you have gone out. But after his last visit, he will know without a doubt. To take the roses to the place, where I’ve instructed him. And place the roses where we are, together once again.’

47. “ Men who look upon themselves born to reign, and others to obey, soon grow insolent; selected from the rest of mankind their minds are early poisoned by importance; and the world they act in differs so materially from the world at large, that they have but little opportunity of knowing its true interests, and when they succeed to the government are frequently the most ignorant and unfit of any throughout the dominions .”
48. “ Our present condition, is, Legislation without law; wisdom without a plan; constitution without a name; and, what is strangely astonishing, perfect Independence contending for dependence…The mind of the multitude is left at random, and seeing no fixed object before them, they pursue such as fancy or opinion starts. Nothing is criminal; there is no such thing as treason; wherefore, every one thinks himself at liberty to act as he pleases.”
52. Me: is the order out of chaos, the great attributes of civilization, the powers of the Gods Truth, falsehood, fear, terror, strife, peace, weariness, victory, judgment, decision, libel, enmity, power, straightforwardness, rejoicing the heart, kingship, and lasting ladyship.
61. Prejudice: Preconceived judgment or opinion An adverse opinion or leaning formed without just grounds or before sufficient knowledge

He freed lotta people but it seems the good they die young, You know, I just looked around and he’s gone, Didn’t you love the things that (he) stood for? Didn’t (he) try to find some good in you and me? And we’ll be free Some day soon, it’s gonna be one day Abraham, Martin and John By Richard Holler
65. “ He who accepts evil without protesting against it is really cooperating with evil.”
66. “ he who lives by the sword will perish by the sword…to meet hate with retaliatory hate would do nothing but intensify the existence of evil in the universe. Hate begets hate, violence begets violence; toughness begets greater toughness. We must meet the forces of hate with the power of love; we must meet physical force with soul force.”
68. At first the bans began with elements of Victor’s professional life, beginning with his exemption from being able to give exams to his dismissal in 1935 from his post. Then the many different aspects of his personal life were slowly taken away from him, from the owning of cars, to the use of public libraries, cinemas, entering parks to bans on telephones, radios, and typewriters, to curfews, the ban on buying tobacco and cigarettes, and finally to increased reduction of food rations.
69. After Victor is forced to give up his post at the University he gets a pension of half of his salary, but that too is subject to ever-increasing Jewish taxes. The Jewish people are only allowed to shop between noon and one during the week and between three and four on Saturday. For relief Victor and Eva build a home outside of Dresden. Hitler even bans the owning of homes, which forces them to rent their house out and move into a Jewish home back in Dresden.

73. “ A week ago today Evan had to lie down because of a new attack of her foot ailment, since then things have gone very bad. She lies down almost the whole day, propped up in the dining room-movements always brings back pain-and the trouble has a terrible effect on her state of mind.” “Evan has gone to bed early. Her nerves failed her once again, which manifests itself in her shivering with cold in the evenings with her teeth really chattering.” “An abscess developed very suddenly in Eva’s mouth and had to be lanced today.”
74. “ For two weeks Evan has been plagued by headaches, for one week by pains in her mouth, she has developed a nasty abscess on her gums.” “Eva, already badly worn down by all the moving work, has quite wasted away in recent days.” “Eva looks very pale and ill. The worst thing is Eva’s declining powers of resistance. Her state of health is approaching that of genuine melancholy.” “Eva is lying down a lot-neuralgia in her right arm, suffering greatly.”
75. For a diversion Victor buys a car until Hitler takes away his driving privilege and eventually forces him to sell the car at scrap value.
76. “ Then I was alone, and the loud voices outside merged and could not be separated anymore. Once again I had the feeling ‘cinema’ and with it the memory of countless images, comic and tragic, of the prisoner in his cell. Then I was overwhelmed by the tragic novelty of the whole thing, the banal perception-all the most profound perceptions are banal, at most one man finds a somewhat more original expression for it than another man-that we know nothing at all except what we have experienced ourselves. Pity is such a shabby thing. I can torment myself with wanting to feel pity, and yet I don’t succeed. How would I fee, Eva, if you were lying sick, if I knew you were on the operating table next to me? I wanted to feel pity, and my thoughts strayed, I would have liked to hit myself because of my lack of feelings, and my thoughts strayed here and there to trifles, became egotistical-I did not really feel pity.”
77. A man in Berlin takes his wife to the hospital so that she can give birth. A picture of Christ hangs over the bed. The man: ‘Nurse, that picture must go, I don’t want the Jewboy to be the first thing my child sees.’ The nurse: She herself could not do anything about it, she will report it. In the evening he gets a telegram from the doctor: ‘You have a son. The picture did not need to be removed, the child is blind.’

111. “ If he could get her to remember under hypnosis when, and in what connection, a particular symptom first appeared the symptom would disappear. In one session, for instance, she traced her inability to drink water back to a time when she saw a little dog drink from a water glass and was disgusted by the sight; when she came out of the trance she was able o drink and the symptom never returned. Similarly, the talking cure rid her of the paralysis in her right arm after she recalled that one time, while tending her father, that arm was draped over the back of the chair and became numb, at which point she had had a dream of a black snake approaching and of being unable to use her arm to fend it off.”
112. Unfortunately for Breuer, he “was uncomfortable with the topic of sexuality and though at the moment of the hysterical pregnancy he had ‘had the key in his hand’ (as Freud later wrote to a friend), he dropped it…[and] in conventional horror took flight”
113. Mainstream Psychology today: “I do not directly address the question of why men and women are different” John Gray “In the twenty five years that I have been doing work in the field of human behavior, I have seen few if any genuine relationship conflicts ever get resolved” Dr. Phil
115. “ A string of raw facts; a little gossip and wrangle about opinions; a little classification and generalization on the mere descriptive level; a strong prejudice that we have states of mind, and that our brain conditions them; but not a single proposition from which any consequence can casually be deduced. This is no science, it is only the hope of a science.”
116. “ the [biological] view that the mind was nothing but the physical reactions to outside stimuli (is) unworthy of belief or even debate.”
119. “ I had another important experience…I was taking the long road to school from Klein-Huningen, where we lived, to Basel, when suddenly for a single moment I had the overwhelming impression of having just emerged from a dense cloud. I knew all at once: now I am myself! It was as if a wall of mist were at my back, and behind that wall there was not yet an “I”. But at this moment I came upon myself . Previously I had existed, too, but everything had merely happened to me. Now I happened to myself. Now I knew: I am myself now, now I existed. Previously I had been willed to do this and that; now I willed. This experience seemed to me tremendously important and new…”
120. “ About this time I had a dream which both frightened and encouraged me. It was night in some unknown place, and I was making slow and painful headway against a mighty wind. Dense fog was flying along everywhere. I had my hands cupped around a tiny light, which threatened to go out at any moment. Everything depended on my keeping this little light alive. Suddenly I had the feeling that something was coming up behind me. I looked back, and saw a gigantic black figure following me. But at the same moment I was conscious, in spite of my terror that I must keep my little light going through night and wind, regardless of all dangers.”
121. “ When I awoke I realized at once that the figure was a ‘specter of Brocken,’ my own shadow on the swirling mists, brought into being by the little light I was carrying. I knew, too, that this little light was my consciousness, the only light I have. My own understanding is the sole treasure I posses, and the greatest. Though infinitely small and fragile in comparison with the powers of darkness, it is still a light, my only light.”
122. Remembered his first dream from between 3 and 4 years of age. He discovered the notion of the personal God by questioning secular religion. He discovered neurosis at 12 years of age. He cured psychiatric patients. His relationship with Freud reveals the positive psyche confronting the negative one. He and Freud independently discovered the repression mechanism.
123. “ I can still recall vividly how Freud said to me, ‘My dear Jung, promise me never to abandon the sexual theory. That is the most essential thing of all. You see, we must make a dogma of it, an unshakable bulwark.’ He said that to me with the great emotion, in the tone of a father saying, ‘And promise me this one thing, my dear son: that you will go to church every Sunday.’ In some astonishment I asked him, ‘A bulwark-against what?’ To which he replied, ‘Against the black tide of mud’-and here he hesitated for a moment, then added-’of occultism.’ First of all, it was the words ‘bulwark’ and ‘dogma’ that alarmed me; for a dogma, that is to say, an undisputable confession of faith, is set up only when the aim is to suppress doubts once and for all. But that no longer has anything to do with scientific judgment; only with a personal power drive.”
124. “ Freud, who had always made much of his irreligiosity, had now constructed a dogma, or rather, in place of a jealous God whom he had lost, he had substituted another compelling image, that of sexuality. It was no less insistent, exacting, domineering, threatening, and morally ambivalent than the original one. Just as the psychically stronger agency is given ‘divine’ or ‘daemonic’ attributes, so the ‘sexual libido’ took over the role of a…hidden or concealed god.”
125. “ The name alone had changed, and with it, of course, the point of view: the lost god had now to be sought below, not above.”
126. By connecting the development of Gnosticism with Alchemy he discovered the development of myths and symbols. Through these myths and symbols we learn common sense.
127. He discovered the collective unconscious and the personal unconscious. The collective unconscious is the collection of the components of common sense. Our mental imbalances occur when the collective unconscious and personal unconscious collides.
128. Jung took up the question of Christianity from a psychological perspective. And the question is what message does Jesus embody? It is very important to keep in mind the times he lived, for it can be surmised that the state of consciousness some two thousand years ago was much less developed than it is today. The state of consciousness at the time was just beginning to develop when Jesus walked on this great earth. In fact, if you think about Jesus’ life from the perspective of today, some fifty years after Jung died, only then do you answer the question of what he introduced into the world. Jesus was the first person on earth to attempt to define the message of love as a supernatural concept, one beyond the secular materialism of man.
129. In essence he put into motion the objective of our emotional relationship with the ones we love. Only today does that message finally get answered. Love is defined as happiness, not unhappiness. And for that message he was killed, just like Socrates some four hundred years earlier. Socrates was killed for trying to figure out why we think and Jesus was killed because he tried to figure out why we feel, “Love thy neighbor”, particularly your partner, your nearest neighbor.
131. The Holy Grail: Jesus’ crown of thorns Jesus existed and was crucified
132. He discovered “wholeness”: “I use the term ‘individuation’ to denote the process by which a person becomes a psychological ‘in-dividual’, that is, a separate, indivisible unity or “whole”
133. He comes to the historic conclusion that the goal of the individual psyche is to balance the ego to discover the self by letting the visions of his dreams and fantasies coalesce into drawings. He called these pictures “mandalas”.
134. “ Mandala means circle, more especially a magic circle, and this form of symbol is not only to be found all through the East, but also among us; mandalas are amply represented in the Middle Ages. The specifically Christian ones come from the earlier Middle Ages. Most of them show Christ in the centre, with four evangelists, or their symbols, at the cardinal points. This conception must be a very ancient one because Horus was represented with his four sons in the same way by the Egyptians…For the most part, the mandala form is that of a flower, cross, or wheel, with a distinct tendency toward four as the basis of the structure.”
135. “ This dream brought with it a sense of finality. I saw that here the goal has been revealed. One could not go beyond the center. The center is the goal, and everything is directed toward that center. Through this dream I understood that the self is the principle and (instinct) of orientation and meaning. Therein lies its healing function. For me, this insight signified an approach to the center and therefore to the goal. Out of it emerged a first inkling of my personal myth.”
136. “ Wherever the psyche is set violently oscillating by (an insecurity), there is a danger that the thread by which one hangs may be torn. Should that happen, one man tumbles into an absolute affirmation, another into an equally absolute negation…The pendulum of the mind oscillates between sense and nonsense, not between right and wrong.”
139. “ Jealous love is a contradictio in adjecto-jealousy is the opposite of love, is envy, is selfishness.” I Will Bear Witness Victor Klemperer
140. “ The (insecurity) is dangerous because it lures men to extremes, so that a modest truth is regarded as the truth and a minor mistake is equated with fatal error.”
141. “ slapped his cheek as if he were pressing a kiss on him, tied a nose-ring on him, like a caught ox, fastened a rope about his arms like a caught warrior”

149. “ Then the Lord rained brimstone and fire on Sodom and Gomorrah, from the Lord out of the heavens. Turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes, condemned them to destruction, making them an example to those who afterward would live unGodly”
155. Hello my friend we meet again It’s been a while where should we begin…feels like forever Within my heart are memories Of perfect love that you gave to me I remember When you are with me I’m free…I’m careless…I believe Above all the others we’ll fly This brings tears to my eyes My sacrifice
156. We’ve seen our share of ups and downs Oh how quickly life can turn around in an instant It feels so good to reunite Within yourself and within your mind Let’s find peace there When you are with me I’m free…I’m careless…I believe Above all the others we’ll fly This brings tears to my eyes My sacrifice I just want to say hello again
158. “ I think that this is what can be said at the end of our aeon of the Fishes, and perhaps must be said in view of the coming aeon of Aquarius (the Water Bearer), who has a human figure and is next to the sign of the fishes…The Water Bearer seems to represent the self. With a sovereign gesture he pours the contents of his jug into the mouth of Piscis austrinus , which symbolizes a son, a still unconscious content. Out of this unconscious content will emerge, after the passage of another aeon of more than two thousand years, a future whose features are indicated by the symbol of Capricorn:…the monstrosity of the Goat-Fish, symbolizing the mountains and the depths of the sea…This strange being could easily be the primordial image of a Creator-god confronting ‘man’”
160. In other words, for two thousand years after Christ we lived according to the symbol of the fish (and the “sword”). We have had to develop to the point where we could feed most of humanity (and realize that wars are bad). We are now at the dawn of the Age of Aquarius where every one of us is tasked to figure out who we are by balancing our egos and discovering our self, to find spirituality to become whole. After another two thousand years we get to meet our maker on earth, what The Bible tells us will eventually happen. The transition required between the two in a relationship today is for us to make conscious what is unconscious, a psychological endeavor.
161. So the bottom line with all that we have gone through here is that the struggles of civilization for thousands of years has simply been to accomplish one thing…to develop to the point so that you can become an individual, the path to happiness, and the first necessary step before a happy, healthy, harmonious, loving affectionate, intimate relationship is possible. Hopefully what has been presented here will help you get there.
163. If ever you are feeling like you’re tired And all your uphill struggles leave you headed downhill If you realize your wildest dreams can hurt you And your appetite for pain has drinken its fill I ask of you a very simple question Did you think for one minute that you are alone And is your suffering a privilege you share only Or did you think that everybody else feels completely at home Just wait, Just wait, Just wait…And it will come
164. If you think I’ve given up on you you’re crazy And if you think I don’t love you well then you’re just wrong In time you just might take to feeling better Time is the beauty of the road being long I know that now you feel no consolation But maybe if I told you and informed you out loud I say this without fear of hesitation I can honestly tell you that you make me proud Just wait, Just wait, Just wait…And it will come Just wait, Just wait, Just wait…And it will come
165. If anything I might have just said has helped you If anything I might have just said helped you just carry on Your rise uphill may no longer seem a struggle And your appetite for pain may all but be gone I hope for you and cannot stop at hoping Until that smile has once again returned to your face There’s no such thing as a failure who keeps trying Coasting to the bottom is the only disgrace Just wait, Just wait, Just wait…And it will come Just wait, Just wait, Just wait…And it will come Just wait, Just wait, Just wait…And it will come
166. There’s no such thing as a failure who keeps trying Coasting to the bottom is the only disgrace I look forward to seeing you on the mountaintop
