1. Ok so this week
seeâs the rel ease
SUMMER 2012 THE of Avenger s
Assemble so in
celebrati on here
BLOCKBUSTER SUMMER is my preview of
the summ er of
201 2
2. AVENGERS ASSEMBLE
Release Date: 26 th April
Director: Josh Whedon
This has been building for quite
sometime as Marvels Avengers meet.
There's not doubting all of the preceding
films have been fun but can this live up
to the hype? A great cast and the man
who brought us Buf fy the Vampire Slayer
suggest it can. It can defiantly said that
Avengers Assemble will face the Dark
Knight Rises for king of the Superhero's.
3. AMERICAN REUNION
Release Date: 2 nd May
Directors: John Hurwitz and Hayden
Schlossberg
No doubt as usual this summer will be
dominated by sequels but comedy
seems to have taken a back foot so
maybe a return to THE teen franchise
may help the genre continue its success.
The biggest indicator that the film could
be a success is the sign that every cast
member is back. There may even be
some teary moments for those of us
who grew up with the characters.
4. MEN IN BLACK III
Release Date: 25 th May
Director: Barry Sonnenfeld
Another long awaited sequel, despite
the let down of Men In Black II, from the
trailers all seems as it was in the Men In
Black Universe and it will be nice to see
Will Smith back in one of the roles that
made his film career. It also must be
said that by the looks of it Josh Brolin
makes a jolly good Tommy Lee Jones.
Can this be the sequel the first film
deserves?
5. PROMETHEUS
Release Date: 1 st June
Directors: Ridley Scott
The excitement surrounding the release
of Prometheus is the fact the film is still
shrouded in mystery. All the elements
add up great cast, a superb trailer and
most of all the fact this could be in the
Alien universe. Of course like many of
the films on this list it could suffer from
been over hyped but by the looks of it
this could be the adult hit of the
summer.
6. THE 5 YEAR ENGAGEMENT
Release Date: 22 nd June
Director: Nicholas Stoller
The latest from film from the director of
Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Get Him
To The Greek there was always going to
be the hope that this will be the
summers big comedy hit. It does have
Jason Segal who very rarely appears in
bad comedy so the question is can it be
as bit as the duos previous work or
could it even reach the level of Hangover
and Bridesmaids? Who knows!
7. THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN
Release Date: 4 th July
Directors: Marc Webb
Did Spider-Man really need to be
rebooted? Most of me says no but when
you look at the information there's signs
that it could actually better the original.
Yeah weâve seen the story before but
Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone are
two of the rising stars of Hollywood.
Also Marc Webbâs debut 500 Days of
Summer rocked so lets hope he can
follow it up with a superior to the
original reboot.
8. ICE AGE CONTINENTAL DRIFT
Release Date: 13 nd July
Directors: Steve Martino and Mike
Thurmeier
Ice Age is the animated series of the
generation that wasnât Shrek but there's
still a degree of excitement for the 4 th
film especially when the 3 rd was better
then its rival in the Shrek series. There's
great additions to the voice cast as well
with Nick Frost and Gleeâs Heather
Morris coming aboard. And if they donât
live up there's still Scrat to keep us
entertained.
9. THE DARK KNIGHT RISES
Release Date: 20 th July
Directors: Christopher Nolan
What more can be said about the most
talked about movie of the summer.
Expectations are ridiculously high for
Nolan and Baleâs bow out but if anyone
can pull it of f itâs the people involved in
this film. Superior sequels are rather
never mind sequels superior to both the
original and the better sequel. Can they
deliver? Everyone seems to think so
either way its going to make big bucks!!
10. THE EXPENDABLES 2
Release Date: 17 th August
Directors: Simon West
The great blockbusters slow down in
August but for action fans there's
always the sequel to the Expendables
adeptly titled The Expendables 2. Donât
expect too much plot but do expect
action, action and lots of swearing, hang
on wait scratch that last one. So itâs
probably going to be a 12 here but no
doubt the all star cast will kick some
arse.
11. HOUSE AT THE END OF THE STREET
Release Date: 21 st September (US)
Directors: Mark Tonderai
So there's no UK release date yet but
from the trailer it looks like this could
be the summers horror hit, especially
after the relative success of Cabin in the
Woods. There is one reason Iâm excited
for the film and that the fact Jennifer
Lawrence is the star, have I ever
mentioned Iâm in love with her? Ok so
Iâm not going to go on about this film
like the Hunger Games but I will
defiantly be going to see this!
12. THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY
Release Date: 14 th December
Directors: Peter Jackson
Ok so itâs not strictly speaking a
summer film but how can you mention
upcoming 2012 films without it. Lord of
the Rings introduced a whole generation
to the magic of cinema and hopefully so
will the prequel as well as keeping the
devoted fans happy. Can you really
believe it was 11 years ago that Frodo
and Sam started their adventure? Lets
hope Middle Earth hasnât changed.
