How to Remove Document Management Hurdles with X-Docs?
Personal Statement Draft 4
1. Media is part of our everyday lives and comes in many different formats, these wide variety of
different formats of entertainment that many people consider is fundamental to their daily live;
highlighting its importance, impact and influence that it has on individuals globally. I wish to be
a part of the industry that brings these important events and information to life for people to
enjoy, whether this be through TV or Film.
From my Creative Media course, I have been able to explore the different crew roles needed to
create productions, which has helped me learn more about myself, such as what roles I excel at
and what I find the most interesting. My course has also taught me a lot about the industry, how
to create a pitch, research and pre-production, cinematography techniques, how to use Premier
Pro, Photoshop and After Effects to complete my projects. I also enhanced my skills such as
script writing, creating print campaigns and podcasting.
Over the summer of 2021 I completed two virtual, work experience courses with Springpod. I
completed one course in Journalism and the other in TV and Film. During these courses I gained
a sound understanding of the inner-workings and concepts related to each industry, the skills
needed to pursue a career in these industries. I also completed a Virtual Bitesize University
Summer School which inspired and motivated me to go to university.
Due to my keen interest in music, outside of my time at college I spend a considerable amount
creating band photography for some small local music groups for my own portfolio and for their
social media accounts. On top of this, I have also recently started to learn to play guitar myself.
Also, during October I started work experience at a company named Meash Media where I learn
first-hand about the industry and what is involved. With this company I shadow the
professionals, as well as creating my own content using their equipment and guidance.
Experimenting more with my photography in a professional setting and using software's like
Canva to create promotions for companies that Meash Media manage their social media accounts
for.
During my time in education, I have also had part time jobs working in retail and hospitality as
well as volunteering for the Royal British Legion. They have helped me to excel in developing
my confidence, cashing handling skills as I am trustworthy, while also learning how to be patient
with customers and the importance of communication. I have also enhanced my time
management skills, while balancing work and college assignments successfully. As part of my
volunteering, I was stationed in their shop in Newcastle where I had to greet and help customers,
take donations, put out stock and deal with card transactions for the higher priced items. Also, I
have worked with my peers my peers to organise and plan a charity fundraiser and we raised
over £50 which was donated to an animal charity. From my work experience and volunteering
they have helped me develop gain ability to network with more people which is essential in the
media industry. For example, I independently reached out and visited Sunderland Empire during
hours that it was closed, to film a segment for one of my documentary projects. In addition,
networking with several different local bands for my photography.
2. With my eager and passionate attitude for the industry as well as the many different
opportunities the media sectors will bring, a degree linking to it will certainly help me with my
future as well as increasing my chances of being successful. Because of my relevant experience
through my course, work experience and work outside of college as well as the important life
skills that I have picked up along the way, I look forward to furthering my education, developing
and enhancing more skills to grow and create a successful future.
